To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

Once a day. But I have several cats.

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 19:10

@Arthersleep if you were coming for a cuppa I'd hoover just for you. But you'd be horrified because we've just mugs, no naice china and the dogs would steal your biscuits.

Ha! I'm with you Scrimpshaw

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/08/2020 19:12

This thread just confirms to me that I do way way way under the average amount of housework. Even then I still hate it and it bores me to tears Grin.

MovinOnUp · 14/08/2020 19:13

Once a day at the bare minimum, Usually twice a day.......Thrice would be optimum as we have three long-haired cats and a puppy that sheds it's body weight in hair.
I'm saving up for a robot vacuum.

flowerrful · 14/08/2020 19:14

Not at all often. Maybe once a month or so until I got one of those vacuum robots. It's not very thorough, but does encourage me to vacuum a bit more often. Only a bit though.
Obviously, no shoes are allowed in the house.

Tlollj · 14/08/2020 19:15

I live alone, no pets, children all grown. Shoes off house.
Twice maybe three times a week downstairs. Once twice a week upstairs.
When my current vacuum gives up the ghost I’m going to buy a cordless and I’ll be doing it more often.

BillywigSting · 14/08/2020 19:16

Downstairs probably 2-3 times a week but we have a rug that mil gave us (because its a bastard to keep clean and needs hoovering approximately every 0.0012 seconds).

Hard floors throughout the whole downstairs apart from That Bastard Rug. Gets swept every day which would be plenty otherwise.

Upstairs is when I remember, probably once a month ish, maybe.

Mummysgonetobed · 14/08/2020 19:17

At least once a day here but I have 3 feral children who make a god awful mess. Upstairs once a week or so.

ihoeihoeihoe · 14/08/2020 19:18

Twice a day, but I have two dogs and a weaning baby which means lots of hair and food. I WISH I could vacuum twice a week!

Gomezzz · 14/08/2020 19:18

I just can't get interested in this competitive cleaning bollocks. If you think it needs doing do it, otherwise don't worry about it. You are not more virtuous because you have less dust on your floor.

BingIsAMassiveTwat · 14/08/2020 19:19

Downstairs daily, usually twice, due to cats, a messy toddler and a weaning baby, so lots of food and hair EVERYWHERE. Upstairs maybe every 3 weeks, more if it looks bad or having visitors!

tiredanddangerous · 14/08/2020 19:20

Probably once a week. Possibly more like every 10 days. We have a lot of carpet and a lot of stairs and I just can't be bothered.

clary · 14/08/2020 19:20

I hoover every day downstairs and twice a week upstairs. No food or shoes upstairs (supposedly!). Downstairs takes me less than 10 mins tho. I don't use the tools and go behind the sofas and into the ceiling corners every day, that's a once a week job.

Those who do it less often, do you sweep the kitchen floor in between? Mine gets grim in a day, I can't decide if it's cos my family are very messy or what, but there is no way I could leave that three days! No pets here either so I can't blame the dog, so to speak.

PanamaPattie · 14/08/2020 19:20

I think I last hoovered Boxing Day.

DeborahAlisonphillipa · 14/08/2020 19:21

You have 7 cats and 3 dogs OP?! It’s up to you whatever you’re comfortable with. i’d be hoovering constantly downstairs with that many pets - I hate dirt and fluff but am lazy so that would be a bad combo for me.

LakieLady · 14/08/2020 19:21

I move furniture and all that jazz about once a month

Shock I doubt if I hoover behind the sofas more than once a year. It takes 2 of us to move the bastards. The chance of both of us having the motivation to do that at the same time are very slender.

We have a small rolltop desk in the living room, it's full of stuff and very heavy. I doubt if I've moved that to hoover behind it since about 2005, when we last decorated.

Every few months I poke a fluffy duster behind it to clear the dust bunnies though.

SummerHouse · 14/08/2020 19:21

It's such a waste of time. Better to leave it for a week or more and marvel at the amount of smeg in your vacuum.

MotherPiglet · 14/08/2020 19:21

I have a toddler and Hoover the hard floors in the kitchen every day. Rest of the house is once a week normally.

TheAirbender · 14/08/2020 19:22

Hairy dog who sends - I send the robot vacuum round every day downstairs. Upstairs about once a week. I love a good vacuum though - it’s one thing that really makes a quick difference to how clean a house feels.

vanillandhoney · 14/08/2020 19:22

Twice a day.

We have a dog and three cats, I work with dogs and DH is a plasterer so there's always dog hair, mud, dust etc. coming in on our clothes. Any less than that and it does look a bit grubby - but it's what we signed up for when we got four pets.

I don't mind, it only takes a couple of minutes each time. Upstairs only gets done weekly as the dog is the only animal up there.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 14/08/2020 19:22

I've got a super fluffy shedding black cat and I manage 3 times a week at most, - twice me (only really downstairs where the cat fluff is), once the cleaners doing whole house.

Sometimes there are visible bits on the carpet, that's usually the nudge to me to whip round. The bits don't kill us. It's a home, we live in it. We work, there is no housewife in residence justifying their existence with daily chores.

clary · 14/08/2020 19:23

"You are not more virtuous because you have less dust on your floor."

That is very true. Equally you are not more worthy because you have more dust on your floor and you used the time to "read a book or write a letter" as that stupid rhyme says.

I hoover that often because I like my house to be clean (the other people in it are rather messy and hoard stuff so it will never be tidy). But if you don't feel like that, it's fine. Neither of us is better tho.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 14/08/2020 19:24

everyday with a robot

SimonJT · 14/08/2020 19:24

Twice a day, but I’m very anal about the floors being clean, everything else is dusty/crumby though. I should also reveal that I’m a bit of a cheat as I have a eufy.

Also, if your DH thought he was living in squalor he’d get the hoover out himself.
