To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

Daily, but that's probably because I bought a new vacuum and I'm enjoying seeing how much it picks up everytime and transforming it into different types of vacuum like a transformer toy. 2 indoor cats that she'd like crazy and I cast a lot too. After many years searching I've found the one! Let's see how long the love lasts though as they always end up a disappointment in the end.

Upstairs, which is all carpeted, is usually done once a week. Kids' rooms probably not even that often tbh. Downstairs though is vinyl flooring and has to be done at least once a day. Cat litter gets everywhere, plus cat hair, crumbs, dust etc all seem much more visible on hard flooring. So at least every evening, sometimes I also have to run the vacuum round during the day too.

Happyher · 15/08/2020 21:29

Once a week generally or just before visitors arrive. Now kids are grown there’s not as much mess

Aria999 · 15/08/2020 21:47

Hahahaha 'only' twice weekly, once a month if it's lucky. I rotate round doing different rooms every few days (Rugs/ wood floor so vacuum / sweep).

Shoes off in house, food confined to kitchen, it doesn't actually really need more.

Merryweather80 · 15/08/2020 22:03

Daily downstairs, but we have four cats dd9, dd6 and ds18 weeks. I hoover and mop downstairs daily upstairs once or twice a week. Depends on who's coming and going. If one of the girls has a friend over I'll run the hover over during the day. If the girls have been away a night or two at friends or relatives probably only once a week.
No shoes upstairs only slippers although this is the rule downstairs too but gets ’forgotten’ occasionally.
I had a robot vac thing but it didn't seem to get into the nooks and crannies properly. It was ok for a half-arsed clean.
I steam clean once a week too, which I will probably do daily once the baby starts crawling.

loudev · 15/08/2020 22:05

Twice a day downstairs. I have 4 kids... one is a toddler. Upstairs is once a week though

Eatyourbanana · 15/08/2020 22:09

Hoover the lounge probably twice a day (2 young kids so food, play doh, sand etc every where) whole house hoover, maybe 1-2 times per week. But it really shows if I don’t, plus we have a handheld so it’s one of the easier jobs IMO.

Merryweather80 · 15/08/2020 22:12

Dd regularly brings get bunny in to visit too. So then there's bits of hay and bunny fluff too. She once brushed him in the house, there was fluff everywhere for days despite me hovering like a madwoman possessed.

kazliz · 15/08/2020 22:15

Hello I avarage once a week ( no pets) but sweep my kitchen floor every day.

boymum9 · 15/08/2020 22:25

I hoover every day but only because of the dog hair and having young children, white wood floors, brown dog, nightmare

mogtheexcellent · 15/08/2020 22:28

Once a fortnight. I'm married to a farmer, 6yo biscuit obsessed DD and we also have a dog.

Farmer insisted on buying a mahoosive Dyson so I told him he was in charge of hoovering as my back cannot lift or push the weight. I just don't look at the floor. Grin

We are never ill though.Wink

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/08/2020 22:32

We have a plain, galaxy chocolate brown carpet which shows lots of bits easily.

It has become my habit to vacuum daily. Usually last thing before I leave home in the morning for work. That way it's clean when I come home.

Catsup · 16/08/2020 00:53

When I can be arsed 😳 Ddog isn't a 'hair shedder', but I make up for both of us combined (and probably more some). I invested in a Shark anti hair thingy and it's been a game changer! I now have 'Hinchy insta post worthy' carpet lines 😳 I'm a right scruff bag! But the carpets actually look great! The hoover pulls the pile right up when I can be bothered to do it.

Catsup · 16/08/2020 00:58

Previously if I ran my fingers across the carpets I'd produce enough crap to kit out a dolls house with fluff bunny characters 🙄😳 Post Shark it's clean as a whistle! (I do not work nor advertise for Shark cleaners 🤣). My previous hoover was an animal Dyson, and that was decent too (for recommended balance).

BlossomingTulip · 16/08/2020 02:45

I have 3 children( not small) and a cat. 1st and 2nd floor have the carpet. Ground floor has tiles( so much easier). I vacuum 2 times a day upstairs( carpet) but I prefer using the broom for the ground floor(tiles) because I might need to clean more than twice . However I also vacuum the ground floor one or twice a week( it's mostly because I have a cat).

Catsup · 16/08/2020 03:21

Cats are walking furballs! DS has 5 cats, and a small child! They hoover many, many times a day!

supersonicginandtonic · 16/08/2020 03:56

Upstairs twice per week. Downstairs at least once a day. I have teenagers who leave biscuit trails, a toddler and dogs. It the teens that are the worst though.

Kithenmaid · 16/08/2020 07:17

Truly, Honestly........if the only thing you have to worry about in life is when to vacuum........things are pretty good....I do not let routine rule me......perspective....🙋...."🍸"

TheTeenageYears · 16/08/2020 07:46

I think it massively depends on circumstances. I dislike housework so try to do everything to minimise how often things need doing. If you can children (or adults) who drop crumbs on the floor and leave them they get kicked around the house so full hoovering needs to be done more often, same if you wear shoes in the house.

Hard floor vs carpet, kids, pets, shoes on in the house, allergies etc will all make a difference to how often anyone needs to hoover.

galaxybuttons · 16/08/2020 07:53

once a week unless spillage of biscuit crumbs requires more 😆

Yesterdayforgotten · 16/08/2020 08:42

For us we do hoovering and housework ALOT more often since having kids. Same with laundry too. I'm shocked at my pre child self and how flippant I was about it all tbh Grin

Flamingle18 · 16/08/2020 09:07

Once or twice a week downstairs as walk in from a cobbled street onto tiled floor in kitchen and probably once a week upstairs ... until I got a robot hoover!!! Set it off every night whilst eating tea. It mops the floor too 😁. Use main hoover to do a deep clean/corners when needed

Aglet · 16/08/2020 10:07

Someone who vacuums 3 times a day needs to get out more.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/08/2020 11:08

@Aglet

Someone who vacuums 3 times a day needs to get out more.
They wouldn't mess the carpets up so much then either. Win/win.
Hutella · 16/08/2020 11:37

Once a month or so.
Sweep kitchen daily and hand vac rooms if there are bits like hair. No pets.
No cleaner.
All of us are alive and well...
