To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

Used to be once or twice a week, but now we have a cat who takes great pleasure in knocking his biscuits all over the kitchen floor and offering a kind of cat biscuit curling and a toddler. So it's once a week up and down and once or twice a day for kitchen, morning room and dining room at they get the heaviest toddler traffic. I'm sure he produces food debris from nowhere. We do have a cordless so only takes five minutes or so

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 14/08/2020 23:23

Once or twice a week ish? Hallway more often than bedrooms. I have two teens and one elderly cat. (When I had the other long haired cat it did need doing more frequently, as she was forever shedding.)

Allmyfavouritepeople · 14/08/2020 23:25

I love that there's 11 pages of this.
I've been proud of myself for vacuuming once a week! Genuinely doesn't need more. The only room that looks like it needs a hoover is the living room due to biscuit crumbs. Hall, stairs and bedrooms don't look like they need doing after a week but get done because I'm doing the living room.
Stairs can last two weeks before they look like they need doing.

eaglejulesk · 14/08/2020 23:31

Once a week (three cats) - but sometimes once a fortnight. I would never, under any circumstances, vacuum three times a day. I live in a home, not a showplace.

Ireolu · 14/08/2020 23:37

Downstairs is daily. Will mop downstairs/kitchen every other day. Upstairs and stairs twice a week on average. I hate dirty floors so if I feel it's mucky I do it.

ohflipit · 14/08/2020 23:56

Now life has calmed down and I have time, it's the whole house once a week and I'm really proud to have my routine now. Years ago when the children were younger and I had multiple jobs to make ends meet it was when we had guests or when the carpet got too crunchy!

ButterMeCrumpets · 15/08/2020 06:07

I have hard floors and no children so maybe that's why I don't need to hoover any more than once a week.

DH and I don't drop crumbs as we eat at the table etc. Therefore it just doesn't get dirty.

Kote · 15/08/2020 06:33

Once a week

PopsicleHustler · 15/08/2020 07:03

I have 4 kids and I hoover or my eldest son hoovers twice a day

3teens2cats · 15/08/2020 07:48

One dog and two cats here. Dc are now teens. When they were little it would be daily downstairs but now I can push it to every other day. Upstairs, at least weekly. We don't allow food upstairs and dog doesn't go upstairs. I have a dust allergy so need to keep on top of it.

newmum332 · 15/08/2020 07:51

Downstairs hard floors at least once a day. Usually after dinner in the evening too around kitchen and dining area.
The rest of the house once a week unless there is an obvious reason for an extra hoover

LioneIRichTea · 15/08/2020 07:54

We don’t have a set schedule or day when we vacuum the whole house. We have a cordless vacuum and just pick it up whenever we have a moment and do a room. Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 15/08/2020 08:08

We use the powerful upright through the house once a week and the cordless Dyson to get stray crumbs as many times a day as is needed which is loads as DH is seemingly incapable of doing anything without throwing crumbs on the floor / round the bin, with a speedy whizz around.

clary · 15/08/2020 08:11

"OMG This thread is terrifying me! How on earth do you get anything else done if you vacuum every day?"

It literally takes me 10 minutes. I do it because I like clean floors, I do see that others don't mind and honestly I don't judge.

We did go and stay with a friend once and DS2 (he was very small) commented that it was nice to come home and be able to walk around the kitchen barefoot!! (At least he didn't say it when at the friend's house Blush)

lboogy · 15/08/2020 08:24

The robot hoover does it every day. Without that hoover I'd do it once a week . I have hard floors

QueenCT · 15/08/2020 08:41

Whole place every 2 weeks by the cleaner
Living room maybe twice a week on top of that as the cat likes to shed hair around it
Kitchen floor twice a week too

Tumbleweed101 · 15/08/2020 08:52

Probably once a week but a bit more when the dog is moulting as you can see it everywhere otherwise. I’ve also got a rubber hair broom for the carpets which can help collect patches without doing a vacuum.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/08/2020 08:54

Every night, but I'm a childminder and I need. Also have a dog and 2 boys and a dp with bad psoriasis so he flakes quite a bit.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 15/08/2020 08:56

I live in a 2 bed bungalow, hardly takes long. Cordless vacuum. 10 mins max.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/08/2020 08:56

When the carpets look bitty.

squeekums · 15/08/2020 09:00

Not twice a week lol
No longer than fortnightly though

Blondiney · 15/08/2020 09:15

Once a week whether it needs it or not. I have 3 dogs and am clearly a slattern.

MilerVino · 15/08/2020 09:41

Is there an extreme reason you can’t hoover every day??

I am wondering about the electricity bills of those who vacuum multiple times a day. It can't be the most ecologically sound thing to do. It may only take 10 minutes but after a busy day, I'd prefer to spend those 10 minutes sitting on the sofa drinking a cup of tea.

As for grubbiness - I pick up any food I drop. I don't wear outdoor shoes in the house. Sometimes the place is dusty. I don't really mind this.

DameHannahRelf · 15/08/2020 09:46

Every few days. I'd do it every day (small house), but it makes my dog go nuts. I've realised now how much of a difference a decent hoover makes. My old one was crap, and that really put me off.

thebearwentoverthebumble · 15/08/2020 09:48

I have a 15 month old so I hoover the kitchen and sitting room (the two rooms we spend most time in) every evening once he is in bed as he creates lots of mess, the other rooms I really only do when I notice they need doing.
