To only vacuum twice weekly?

BadEyeBri · 14/08/2020 17:50

Just reading another thread and someone mentioned vacuuming 3 (!) times a day. How often do y'all vacuum? Twice weekly in my house. I know we are lazy but it's grand, no one has died (yet?). I'm fairly sure there's nothing that will make me up my vacuuming levels either
Am I a full on dirty mare leading my poor DH into a life of squalor and disease? AIBU in not vacuuming more????

My sister is single, no pets or kids, and her house stays immaculate. Until my ds comes to stay Grin. He left pizza sauce handprints and smears in some random places, last time he stayed.

eaglejulesk · 15/08/2020 10:57

Is there an extreme reason you can’t hoover every day??

I find it exceedingly boring - that's a good enough reason for me Grin

flowerrful · 15/08/2020 11:09

I've never managed to find a decent vacuum cleaner. Any suggestions? Not a Dyson - ime they fall to bits.

LunchBoxPolice · 15/08/2020 11:11

Shark lift away is excellent.

girlicorne · 15/08/2020 11:57

We probably don’t even do it once a week I have older kids and no pets, DH is put at work all day I m out with the kids all day as it’s school holidays I don’t see why it needs doing more frequently. When it’s not school holidays I WFH in the dining room DH is at work and the kids are at school. Other than a bit of dust our house doesn’t really get dirty as we are never in and I m not spending any more of my downtime cleaning other than the absolute necessities. We don’t have adult guests and I highly doubt the kids guests aged 10 and 12 are running their fingers over my skirting boards to check my cleaning skills 😂

flowerrful · 15/08/2020 12:31

Just looked at Shark Lift. Though many love it, some say it's the worst vacuum cleaner ever!

cautionhot · 15/08/2020 12:44

I feel like all I ever fucking do is hoover. I'm sick of it. My house is tiled. I have a cordless vacuum and ten minutes later I can see fluff and dust etc. Drives me crazy.

Emmelina · 15/08/2020 12:48

We have three kids and three cats, a daily Hoover is essential for us. I wait until after dinner when they’re all winding down a bit and less likely to destroy my efforts Wink

If your place only needs it twice weekly, then that’s awesome. When the kids were younger it was a couple of times a day. One of them went on a residential for three days and I think I hoovered once during that time Grin really I suppose it depends on your individual household and who/what lives there!

Apolloanddaphne · 15/08/2020 12:52

My DH does a thorough vacuum of the whole house every fortnight and I do the kitchen and living room with a cordless vacuum when it needs it, maybe every 3-4 days.

pinkbalconyrailing · 15/08/2020 12:54

I aim for once a week. but currently it's one if dc chores to keep them off screens so twice a week currently.
if I had pets it would be necessary to do more often.

pinkbalconyrailing · 15/08/2020 12:56

I find it boring and the noise means I can't listen to podcasts.

princesspeppax · 15/08/2020 12:56

Hoover everyday here, except maybe the odd day we've been away and not home till late - but with 3 dc under 5 here, a furry dog & cat who cast like mad we couldn't get away with not hoovering Grin pre dc and pets though it was definitely once a week if even that

huuskymam · 15/08/2020 13:09

I would vacuum at least twice a day, simply because I have a husky who is shedding at the moment and every time she stands up, she leaves a pile behind her. I'm also constantly out with the dustpan and brush.

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/08/2020 13:13

Once a weekish. I sweep the hard wood kitchen floor more often, but I do have 2 dogs and the kitchen opens into the garden.

twittawoo3 · 15/08/2020 13:15

The main living area once or twice a day (very messy toddler) the rest of the house as and when it needs it so once a week maybe.

Lonoxo · 15/08/2020 13:16

Once a week downstairs and upstairs every fortnight. At the weekend. We both work full work time and I refuse to spend more than one weekend morning cleaning so something has to give. We have a crumb catcher for a quick clean after meals if required.

Lonoxo · 15/08/2020 13:18

Oh forgot, dustpan and brush for quickly brushing up hairs if and when required in between hoovering.

TheCanyon · 15/08/2020 13:30

Upstairs gets done once a week usually, downstairs at least once a day. Have a very fluffy cat and 4 dc who love to make things crummy

Grapewrath · 15/08/2020 14:12

My hetty is constantly plugged in. I have 3 teens and one non shedding dog.
I must hoover twice a day but interestingly, my house never seems clean. I’m known as the slovenly one in my friend group

Moorethemerrier · 15/08/2020 17:33

I hoover every morning to start my day and often evening too after the kids have finished dinner.
Then once a week with the house clean I do a ‘big hoover’ (behind sofas/beds, under units, moving toy boxes)
I can’t stand ‘bits’ on the floor or specks in the carpet.

Wilkie1956mog · 15/08/2020 17:49

Every day, living room and kitchen. We have four cats who shed. Twice a week upstairs. And little handheld vaccuum a couple of times a day as needed for crumbs etc. I like the floors to be clean.

keffie12 · 15/08/2020 18:23

Crikey! 3 times a day! Wow! Stairs get done once or twice a week.

We have hard wood flooring through the rest of the house.

Swept daily downstairs and once or twice a week upstairs

FelicisNox · 15/08/2020 18:25

Every day but only because I have a hairy dog.

I would LOVE to hoover twice a week!

MrsAlexKarev · 15/08/2020 18:34

Once or twice a day but I have 4 young children

csigeek · 15/08/2020 18:36

I vacuum when it looks like it needs it tbh. I hate housework so I’m definitely not someone who keeps a meticulous cleaning schedule and basically do everything on a need basis! I’m not even ashamed!
