I need a "goes with everything" casual shoe - help please ?

Hoping for traffic. I've received fab recommendations when I asked about help with skincare and I'm hoping I can get some links/inspiration this time too...

I've been trying to find a shoe preferably trainer or something comfortable that will go with most outfits from jeans and tshirt to a nice casual dress. Basically shoes I can throw on when out and about just shopping / school run or on days out with the DCs when we do plenty of walking and running around after them but that look nice and put together.

I have a pair of slip on navy sketchers go walk which I picked up on a whim in the sale a while ago and I love very much they are the comfiest things ever but they wouldn't go with a dress or certain "nicer" clothes.
I'm a bit worried about going for white trainers which I've seen so many people wear as I'm uncertain how to keep them clean and pristine which is the only time they look good.

My usual go to outfit is skinny jeans, vest & cardigan or when it's warm a mid length casual dress or maxi skirt.
I don't mind laces or slip on shoes.

Has anyone seen or have a pair of great all round shoes?

I wear my Doc Martens with everything. I know they're not trainers, but that's what I wear, and with absolutely everything.

MatildaTheCat · 13/08/2020 10:29

I’d go with the decent white leather trainers/shoes. I wear mine more than any of my other multiple pairs. I chuck them in the wash every so often and they come out sparkling.

I like Nike Air Force 1s. I have a pair that are off-white (I struggle with white too), with some small colour accents. I wear them with pretty much anything! Although I am a big fan of chunky trainers and dresses. They do them in loads of colourways, so may be worthwhile to look and see if there is anything that takes your fancy. Smile

steff13 · 13/08/2020 10:31

Tom's, maybe.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 13/08/2020 10:32

Maybe a bit too casual for what you want, but I love my Converse ballet flats. They're not really ballet shoes, as they come further up your foot, so stay on within you having to clench your toes

steff13 · 13/08/2020 10:34

I have a pair of black leather Tieks that I wear with everything.

overweightcat · 13/08/2020 10:35

What brands are they @MatildaTheCat ?

I love doc martens @ShinyMe but they're a bit out of my price range and not quite a casual look for me day-to-day. They're on my Christmas wish list though Grin

Love my Adidas three stripe. But do have to clean them now and then

Byronsmummy · 13/08/2020 10:38

Have a look at Rocket Dog 'trainers'. Not bulky, look cute, loads of colours and patterns. I love mine and just about the only footwear that goes with anything casual.

I wear my stan smiths with everything and they are really comfy. I have wide feet though - so don’t know if they work for narrow feet.

White nike Air Force 1s.. they go with basically everything and there only £85

Waspie · 13/08/2020 10:43

I love my Skecher BOBS I have the espadrille style and trainer style. Very comfortable and hard wearing.

SweatyBetty20 · 13/08/2020 10:44

I've just got a pair of these for the same reasons - www.marksandspencer.com/woven-pumps/p/clp60139411?extid=ps_ps-bpla_ggl_ww_ch__-UK--&&ds_a_cid=65970745&gclid=CjwKCAjwydP5BRBREiwA-qrCGh1QOOa7ohAuQ5hO9ULeEakmhESsw53QkC5EtdLsDVV9XUB3XxrQ7RoCpdkQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I also have two pairs of Birkenstocks with the comfy footbed - one rose gold, one black, which are great.

justchecking1 · 13/08/2020 10:44

I have these from M&S. Not to everyone's taste but I love them and they're so comfy

I have a pair of white, fabric Keds that I always chuck in the wash and they come out looking new every time. Very comfortable too!

Badabingbadabum · 13/08/2020 10:46

Vans or vans style slip ons. Or converse.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 13/08/2020 10:47

I have these. Comfier than Converse & go with everything. I do prefer my Birkenstocks with dressier outfits though. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NJNKLF3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dVqnFbK78M5TQ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I would normally say Docs are out of my price range op, but I've developed funny ankles over the last few years and they seem to be the only things that fit my special insoles and don't hurt after walking around all day, so now I have 4 pairs. Including a gold glitter pair.

frustrationcentral · 13/08/2020 10:49

Oh like those! Only girl in the house so the boys love to mock my daftness, these would fit in perfectly!
BeeyatchPlease · 13/08/2020 10:52

I seem to live in my Tom's these days, they go with everything and are very comfortable.

funnyoldonion · 13/08/2020 10:53

I second Adidas Stan Smiths, I have them in black and wear with everything, also have Saltwater sandals, can walk for miles in them!

funnyoldonion · 13/08/2020 10:53

Also, want the Nike Air Force 1s in black now! Grin

Imtoooldforallthis · 13/08/2020 10:55

I second skechers bobs, the chilli flex ones, very comfy and don't look like skechers at all.
