Hoping for traffic. I've received fab recommendations when I asked about help with skincare and I'm hoping I can get some links/inspiration this time too...

I've been trying to find a shoe preferably trainer or something comfortable that will go with most outfits from jeans and tshirt to a nice casual dress. Basically shoes I can throw on when out and about just shopping / school run or on days out with the DCs when we do plenty of walking and running around after them but that look nice and put together.

I have a pair of slip on navy sketchers go walk which I picked up on a whim in the sale a while ago and I love very much they are the comfiest things ever but they wouldn't go with a dress or certain "nicer" clothes.
I'm a bit worried about going for white trainers which I've seen so many people wear as I'm uncertain how to keep them clean and pristine which is the only time they look good.

My usual go to outfit is skinny jeans, vest & cardigan or when it's warm a mid length casual dress or maxi skirt.
I don't mind laces or slip on shoes.

Has anyone seen or have a pair of great all round shoes?

If you want a universal pair of shoes I would go for grey or navy. I don’t think I could limit myself to one pair.

In summer saltwater sandals and Birkenstock’s on sunny days (these last seasons). I have white trainers, Nike AF1, which I wear a bit sparingly because of the white issue. I do still have my last pair of white trainers which were just from M&S so chuck them on for wetter colder days when I might get mucky.

Winter I have DMs(old) and Chelsea boots but I love my dark grey timberland nellies. Like DMs they need breaking in but are comfy when you get there.

On my wish list is a pair of navy hightop trainers in navy for winter but haven’t found the perfect pair. I am considering doing the customise your own Nike’s for the Air Force high tops.

Air and grace - so comfy and go with everything. I have several pairs and love them all. Plus they are all made in Portugal/Spain in good factories (no sweatshops like the big sports brands).
My favourite are the Cru.

My daughters persuaded me to by Veja trainers in white with the gold V, (sorry can seem to add link!) - really pleased, they look great with everything.

These dude shoes are like slippers - great in summer or just round the house.

So is the general opinion that it is acceptable to wear pumps or trainers with a dress? I love wearing casual summer dresses but never know what to put on my feet! I love walking and think pumps and dress is a good look but wondered if I was alone in that?

I've just got some lovely leather brogues and loafers from Asos for about £30 each

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 13/08/2020 11:17

Supergas

absolutehush · 13/08/2020 11:27

Came here to say white supergas.

Fab with dresses - it's a low profile trainer. Stan Smiths would work well too.

Go for leather - less staining/marks than canvas and just a wipe them with a baby wipes or cloth occasionally.

Irked123 · 13/08/2020 11:28

White Superga?

I wear mine with everything

Irked123 · 13/08/2020 11:28

Oh dear, classic posting without reading the last comment! Agree with PP :)

strawberryplanting · 13/08/2020 11:31

One shoe? Or a whole pair Wink

QueenofLouisiana · 13/08/2020 11:34

Another vote for Superga. I’m on my third pair.
I have a beautiful pair of Stan Smiths, white with mint, but they tear my heels to shreds unless I wear socks or tights.

Badassmama · 13/08/2020 11:35

Converse all day evvvvery day

Downthegarden · 13/08/2020 11:39

Superga here too. Look good and sooo comfortable.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 13/08/2020 11:40

Superga's

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 13/08/2020 11:41

I adore my slip on soft suede loafers from fitflop

Freddiefox · 13/08/2020 11:41

Tom’s love mine, can walk in them for hours

Lemming20 · 13/08/2020 11:42

I have Supergas but what do you do with the whole sock / bare leg thing if wearing with a dress? Are trainer socks the answer Hmm

bumbleb33s · 13/08/2020 11:45

I've a few pairs of Converse in different colours, leather and canvas, they look fab with everything, shorts, skinny and flared jeans and I wear them with dresses too :)

LakieLady · 13/08/2020 11:46

My mate has these and I tried them on. They are sooooooo comfortable.

If you can track down a pair in your size, I'd really recommend them.

I have a pair of Ecco boots that I wear in winter. I bought them early in 2011 and they're still going strong. They've been through snow, mud so deep it came over the tops, puddles a few inches deep, all sorts.

Snorlax86 · 13/08/2020 11:46

Another vote for Vans slip ons, they are so comfy, you can get them in a range of colours and even design your own!

AncientRainbowABC · 13/08/2020 11:47

I also came to say Supergas. Got my first pair just before DD was born and have been in them all of mat leave and now beyond. They go with jeans and casual dresses, the shape is discreet and elegant so don’t make feet look big and they are comfy. They wash well in the washing machine (cold setting). The Superga website often has sales and you can get them half price at just under £30.

YourObedientServant · 13/08/2020 11:49

I've never quite managed the dress and trainers thing. It just doesn't work for me.

I have grey Allbirds which are very versatile but my most versatile shoes ever are loafer type slip ons. Really cheap ones, got my first pair from TK Maxx then started re-buying the brand on Amazon. So comfortable, loads of colour options and super cheap but look expensive. I've got navy, black (for work) and a kind of nude colour. I have my eye on the grey as well. They are Jo and Joe loafers. They look a bit old-fashioned on the screen but they really aren't.

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/08/2020 11:51

I like my Toms.

Luckystar1 · 13/08/2020 11:52

I too have Nike Air Force 1s. I actually got a junior pair (I’m size 5) in an outlet so they only cost around £25. I wear them every day, with everything.
