To report this dance studio?

Icelollolly · 09/08/2020 14:58

Would I be being unreasonable to report a dance studio to Walt Disney Studios UK as in the past and currently they have /are using various Walt Disney Studios flims as themes for school holiday dance camps and performances and are using songs from the films in performances. They have posted on social media advertising using Disney flims as themes for the dance camps and posting videos of performances to music from Disney films.

OP posts:

Get a bloody life🙄

GlassMarble · 09/08/2020 16:25

Ha ha @Icelollolly you’re friends deluded.
Chances are the studio has all the correct licenses/permissions to play music and perform to it. Just sane as a bar/club etc. I know DD’s studio does. Your friend is a knob.

ultrablue · 09/08/2020 16:27

**04midsomermurderess

Who are you? **

Did you ask permission off The Who to use those words 😝

Great name by the way I love Midsummer Murders

A small business has been shut down for months. Probably lucky that they can even restart. Probably praying they can pay the rent. Maybe the owner wasnt entitled to any grants.

You know OP, in the grand scale of what’s going on right now, this would be fucking NASTY to report.

Someone is trying to scrape back their livelihood and the participants are getting to do something they haven’t for months. All because of a song and some fucking image on Facebook.

What the fuck is wrong with you? Find a hobby

fallfallfall · 09/08/2020 16:28

Years ago as a member of a skating club executive we looked into Disney content and it was permissible with only minor easy to work around restrictions.
I’d say this is a non issue.

backseatcookers · 09/08/2020 16:34

@VodselForDinner

This is why I’ll only let my children hum “Greensleeves”.
Hahahahaha this is my favourite comment on here ever Grin
Winepls · 09/08/2020 16:34

My friend has a dance school, they used Disney on their shows, Disney discovered & issues a cease & desist order. If Disney want to, I’m sure they’ll
Find out and take action, but I agree with PP, you areyour friend is a dick.

SueEllenMishke · 09/08/2020 16:35

@TheGirlWithAPrince

Calm down Karen.
Please stop using this as an insult

Op why would you even consider this? It seems deliberately cruel

R1R2 · 09/08/2020 16:36

Get a fucking life

draughtycatflap · 09/08/2020 16:38

Calm down Minnie.

VodselForDinner · 09/08/2020 16:38

And just wait til “your friend” sees what my local ice-cream van man has done to Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

Rayne30 · 09/08/2020 16:39

@VodselForDinner OMG hahaha!

TheEmpressOfUtterBastardry · 09/08/2020 16:42

@Icelollolly

I'm not going to report them, my friend was saying they should get reported but I'm not going to.
Haha yes it's always 'the friend' isn't it? Grin

Op report them if you must. But please also accept you will possibly get a struggling dance school to close down and ruin everything for the kids and staff. Why would you want the Disney supercorp to get even richer?

Pobblebonk · 09/08/2020 16:42

YANBU it's a copyright infringement of an asset owned and managed in the UK by Walt Disney Studios UK.

How do you know they haven't got permission, @Strawberryloverforlife?

blacktop · 09/08/2020 16:42

@TheGirlWithAPrince

Calm down Karen.

Only stupid people use 'Karen' as an insult. People who don't understand what they are actually saying.

howfarwevecome · 09/08/2020 16:42

Yep, thread will disappear soon no doubt.

Lucked · 09/08/2020 16:43

I can’t believe anyone would get worked up over little girls twirling around to the frozen theme. I could only imagine that you had a grievance with the owner or with happiness.

Derekhello · 09/08/2020 16:45

Good god don’t people have more important things to worry about, I’m happy for you if that’s all you have going on in your life! What’s it to you 😂 🙄

YorkshireTeaIsTheBest · 09/08/2020 16:46

Have you not got anything better to do. I'm sure WD can look after its own brand

Shinygreenelephant · 09/08/2020 16:47

Why are you assuming they haven't paid? Ours has used Disney themes before, its very simple to pay for and download, they have a huge range. I take it you have no experience of organising dance shows and are just mouthing off when you have no idea?

TheCatsWhisker · 09/08/2020 16:52

I think your 'friend' should 100% report this.

Much better that the kids have to sacrifice a bit of fun, dancing and making friends so that a multi-billion organisation doesn't lose out.

Maybe your friend will get a free holiday from Disney to say thank you. Win, win all round Wink

wishihadagoodone · 09/08/2020 16:58

This reminds me of the story of Disney not allowing a grieving family of a little boy to have Spider-Man engraved on his headstone.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 09/08/2020 17:04

OK, it would probably be a copyright enfringement, but how would you even know this? How do you know they haven't got permission?
Also.... just why do you care so much? Are you a Disney relative or whatever?
Seems a bit petty to me

biddybird · 09/08/2020 17:05

If they have a licence from the PRS they can play any recorded music. (Or did you think Disney is the only company that holds copyright over music?) T
The song selections will be notified (by the studio) to the PRS and the copyright holder will receive the royalties due.

BlueJava · 09/08/2020 17:10

Are you really so joyless OP that you have nothing better to do?

PS My neighbour's kid was singing some Elsa songs earlier in her paddling pool - do you think 101 or 999 would be more appropriate?
