To report this dance studio?

Icelollolly · 09/08/2020 14:58

Would I be being unreasonable to report a dance studio to Walt Disney Studios UK as in the past and currently they have /are using various Walt Disney Studios flims as themes for school holiday dance camps and performances and are using songs from the films in performances. They have posted on social media advertising using Disney flims as themes for the dance camps and posting videos of performances to music from Disney films.

Your friend sounds delightful. You can tell a lot about a person from the company they keep, you know.

plunkplunkfizz · 09/08/2020 15:35

“My friend” thinks “Your friend” is being a busybody.

Find it highly unlikely “Your friend” wants to dob in her own child’s dance studio.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 09/08/2020 15:37

Your 'friend' really should report.

Poor disney is really struggling, and these small dance schools, trying to make a few quid and using poor Disney's music is abhorrent.

Morgan12 · 09/08/2020 15:37

This may be the most pathetic thing I've ever read in my entire life.

HalloweenDuck · 09/08/2020 15:38

There are certain licenses you can by.
Use only part of a song.
Follow original story lines like grimms stories
Add or remove characters
Use other version of the music ( not Disney recording)
Or buy the rights and use the broadway musical music/ script.
Plenty of ways to run them and not need Disney permission.
Honestly it would be quite cruel to report unless you knew 100%

Illuyanka · 09/08/2020 15:39

Very good idea under the circumstances. We have seen many parents having trouble finding child care. Lets eliminate another so they suffer more.

zaffa · 09/08/2020 15:39

I can honestly say it has never even occurred to me to wonder if a holiday camp has licences to run (for example) a Lego camp or such like. I wouldn't even think to ask.
What is your friend's beef with the studio? How does she know they don't hold the correct license?

Starbuggy · 09/08/2020 15:40

You and your “friend” both need to get a life

You have no way of knowing whether they have paid for licensing.

What motivation could you possibly have other than spite?

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 09/08/2020 15:41

No. You/your 'friend'/whatever have no idea whether they have a licence for these activities. Licence agreements with Disney vary, but they do exist, and the dance studio certainly could have permission. Leave them alone, before you make yourselves look mega daft complaining about a dance studio that's probably just trying to stay afloat and give kids some inspiration in these weird times.

rwalker · 09/08/2020 15:41

commenting for a "friend"
really couldn't get worked up about all that could happen if WD went down legal route they'd have to stop and might face massive legal bill and shut it down .
Hardly a result my "friend thinks"

justoverthehorizon · 09/08/2020 15:42

@Diverseduvet

That was tongue and cheek. Sorry you missed my joke
Don't be sorry..I didn't miss your joke! 😁

I was really saying sorry for my sarcastic comments earlier!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 09/08/2020 15:42

My children's holiday club have been selling ' not to be sold separately' crisps, drinks etc at vastly reduced prices. I was also wondering if I should report them? Grin Grin Grin

My friend asked me to ask you to ask your friend if it's because her daughter didn't get the lead part?

bethg21 · 09/08/2020 15:43

Karen is that you ?? its been a few days x you ok hun ?

TheChristmasPrincess · 09/08/2020 15:44

Why would you do that?I

It was because of a busybody that my primary school had to cancel our annual school leavers play because of copyright claims, two weeks before the show was due. We had no time to rehearse anything else and it ruined the leavers party celebrations. It was meant to be a bit of fun and the money earned (which would have been less than £80) was meant to fund our leavers party and the rest was going to charity.

As you can see, I'm still annoyed by this almost 20 years later. Please don't be this person!

wifesupremacist · 09/08/2020 15:44

lol op has 100% had an argument with the owner and wants to get them in trouble

Well that's completely against the imaginary Mumsnet rules, so I'm reporting you for a "friend".

Get a life

Isithometimeyet0987 · 09/08/2020 15:46

Seriously mind your own business. How do you know the school hasn’t got a lisence or the rights to use the music? I run a Performing Arts school and we don’t discuss what lisence or rights we buy with parents and I’ve never had a parent care tbh.

thecognoscenti · 09/08/2020 15:48

@WorraLiberty

Anyone else waiting for the message from MNHQ?

"Thread deleted as OP had some concerns about privacy"

Absolutely this. 🙄
ReggieCat · 09/08/2020 15:48

My imaginary friend says your imaginary friend needs to grow up and a get a fucking life.

PumpkinPie2016 · 09/08/2020 15:49

Seriously, why would anyone think to report a dance studio for using disney themes/musicHmm They most likely have a license to use it anyway.

Who has the head space to think about this sort of thingHmm

clipclop5 · 09/08/2020 15:49

Get a life and mind your own business. This doesn’t affect you

Crinkle77 · 09/08/2020 15:51

God who cares?

CatkinToadflax · 09/08/2020 15:51

I’m feeling rather envious that your friend’s DD’s dance school is open. DS’s drama club has been closed since March and he’s really missing it. They usually do a big summer performance every year of a well known show or musical. With a licence.

ekidmxcl · 09/08/2020 15:51

Sure someone has said this but you can definitely buy licences and scripts for Disney stuff. My kids have done it.

Why you would report people doing fun kids activities is beyond me anyway. Seriously save the reporting for stuff that is actually causing harm.
