To report this dance studio?

Icelollolly · 09/08/2020 14:58

Would I be being unreasonable to report a dance studio to Walt Disney Studios UK as in the past and currently they have /are using various Walt Disney Studios flims as themes for school holiday dance camps and performances and are using songs from the films in performances. They have posted on social media advertising using Disney flims as themes for the dance camps and posting videos of performances to music from Disney films.

Oh and he had a small part in a professional panto last Christmas. That had a licence too.

DopamineHits · 09/08/2020 15:54

Do you have shares in Disney?

If something is not harming you, or anyone else, why be a killjoy? Let the kids dance to Frozen and be happy.

backseatcookers · 09/08/2020 15:55

Before the "privacy concerns" message goes up from MNHQ I just wanted to ask why your friend you hasn't called 101?

And her child goes to the dance studio! Shes my best friend so can't exactly start mouthing off at her telling her how horrible it would be if she did.

Eh? You should be able to tell your best friend when they're being dick, that's what best friends do IF you're being a dick! Acquaintances mouth off behind your back or post about you on Mumsnet, but real friends tell you if you're being horrible.

Has the heatwave got to you, and mushed up your mindset. Lots of people have become reporters of lots of things of late.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 09/08/2020 15:58

Calm down Karen.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 09/08/2020 16:00

“Asking for a friend”

Of course you are Hmm You just didn’t get the responses you were hoping for!

Don’t be so vindictive!!

Brieminewine · 09/08/2020 16:01

Well tell your ‘friend’ she’s a dick head.

iMatter · 09/08/2020 16:03

Snort

The thread goes against you and all of a sudden it's your "friend" not you

Sparklesocks · 09/08/2020 16:03

Of course you can. It would make you utterly joyless, but you can.

midsomermurderess · 09/08/2020 16:04

Who are you?

LolaSmiles · 09/08/2020 16:06

Anyone else waiting for the message from MNHQ?

"Thread deleted as OP had some concerns about privacy"

SospanFrangipan · 09/08/2020 16:08

Wish I had such small, ridiculous things to worry about in life Hmm

Mamadoll · 09/08/2020 16:12

Are you okay hun?

ambereeree · 09/08/2020 16:13

Yeah OK OP. Report and ruin a small business.

AgentProvocateur · 09/08/2020 16:14

“Your friend” is a petty, small minded individual who needs to find a hobby.

cologne4711 · 09/08/2020 16:17

Calm down Karen

Stop the sexist and ageist slur please. (Yes I am going to call this out every time I see it).

However, I agree the OP (or her "friend") is being rather silly and would like to know how you know that the dance school concerned hasn't got permission. Disney has plenty of resources, they don't need busybodies to police stuff for them.

itsgettingweird · 09/08/2020 16:17

@WorraLiberty

YANBU OP

I can totally understand how devastated you must have been to discover that.

Are you ok? Are you safe? Have you managed to access counselling at all? Do you have any family or friends who can come and be with you right now?

Take care hun, you'd be right to report this atrocious bunch of people Thanks

Nothing to say but 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hobnobswantshernameback · 09/08/2020 16:18

Tell your mate that she's as thick as pig shit and doesn't understand how performance licences work
God the hard of thinking are out in force today

krustykittens · 09/08/2020 16:19

Considering Disney has form for ripping off the copyright of individual artists who don't have the megabucks to fight them and have to stand by while a large corporation gets to be the only one who makes money from their work, I would say YABU. They are probably not making megabucks and have bought the CDs and all the merchandise. But thank you for defending a big corporation, they need help to get their voices heard.

VodselForDinner · 09/08/2020 16:19

This is why I’ll only let my children hum “Greensleeves”.

endofthelinefinally · 09/08/2020 16:20

Have you any idea how many hoops dance clubs have to jump through to comply with all the copyright rules and regulations for every single piece of music they use? Even if it only lasts for 40 seconds?
Are you certain the club is not complying?
As a former secretary of a similar club, I had to deal with all that stuff. It is a nightmare.

19lottie82 · 09/08/2020 16:22

OP have you never copied music from a friend, or taped a song off the radio? I’d imagine almost all of us have, should we all hand ourselves in?

endofthelinefinally · 09/08/2020 16:24

I bet your "friend" is one of those parents who refuses to volunteer or get involved with helping to support the club in any way. Those particular parents never have a clue about the work that goes into managing all these things.

Highlights12 · 09/08/2020 16:25

Seems rather mean of her especially if her own daughter goes there.

randomchap · 09/08/2020 16:25

@TheChristmasPrincess

Why would you do that?I

It was because of a busybody that my primary school had to cancel our annual school leavers play because of copyright claims, two weeks before the show was due. We had no time to rehearse anything else and it ruined the leavers party celebrations. It was meant to be a bit of fun and the money earned (which would have been less than £80) was meant to fund our leavers party and the rest was going to charity.

As you can see, I'm still annoyed by this almost 20 years later. Please don't be this person!

Same thing happened to our junior school production of Wizard of Oz. A couple of weeks before the opening night the school was threatened with a copyright claim.

It had to be cancelled. I'm still annoyed about it 30 years later. Months of effort by the whole school wasted and I never got to be a winged monkey.
