Live in south London and a weekend away

Hi

OH and I desperately need a weekend away, we live in south London (near Wimbledon) we want to go away somewhere within a maximum of 90 mins drive, we don't want to do coastal.

We would like a nice hotel, maybe a spa hotel, a bit of a town or city.

Please recommend

This great website called google might be able to help

TheBananaInPyjamas · 07/08/2020 20:50

Ha OP am in the same boat (almost exactly, am also near Wimbledon) but sadly don't have a car. Keen to see if anyone gives anything actually helpful!

Bath could be a good option though? Not sure on driving time but it's lovely there x

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 20:50

@JBizz brilliant, does it give perfect results, I can put in 90 minute drive and it will totally find me somewhere?

Are you always so snippy? Too hot for you today?

Move on happiness and you know #be kind!

The username is ironic given the question.

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 20:52

@TheBananaInPyjamas don't mind not taking the car, considered Windsor. Have you thought that?

@Lockheart you jealous as well as @JBizz ? People are able to have weekends away, and ask for recommendations.

@TheBananaInPyjamas what is this "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all they speak of".

OP posts:
doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 20:54

@TheBananaInPyjamas they've clearly not heard that one!

Not particularly jealous OP, but for a start you don't "desperately need" a weekend away (you might want one very much, but that's not the same thing), and secondly this is AIBU, not TripAdvisor.

Powdermills Hotel, near Battle in E Sussex. No spa, but has a pool, lovely grounds, beautiful rooms, great food and just a few minutes drive from Battle, which is pretty and has some nice shops, cafes, tea rooms etc and Battle Abbey if you like old historic places.

Should be doable within 90 minutes, I'd have thought.

BIWI · 07/08/2020 20:57

However, all those options are pushing it for 90 minutes in the car - unless you're happy to extend the time/go by train?

JoJoSM2 · 07/08/2020 20:57

I am not sure about specific hotels as we tend to go for day trips but Dorking is easy to get too by car or train and it’s a cute town with a vineyard etc. and it’s in the Surrey Hills so you could go for a hike or bike ride too.

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 20:57

@Lockheart how do you know I don't desperately need a weekend away, you're not me, you might not, but I do.... none of your business why!

Trip advisor does not say thus is 90 mins away and a nice place, where as AIBU is a place that people can give advice.

You may wish to back away from this thread and yo7 are not the AIBU police to say what can or can't be asked.....

I think it's fair to ask for recommendations of destinations for short trips away. I've seen countless threads on the subject, and people tend to give really good suggestions.

Personally I like to hear from real people's experiences, especially with things starting to open up now it's nice to know what options there are.

BIWI · 07/08/2020 20:58

Alternatively, how about going to stay somewhere in Central London? It's pretty quiet right now, and there are some great hotels/restaurants/spas you could check out!

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 20:58

@BIWI I would love bath, but just to far, we can't travel until about 2pm on the Saturday.

Thank you

JoJoSM2 · 07/08/2020 20:59

Battle should be doable in 90mins.

BIWI · 07/08/2020 20:59

Windsor?

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 21:00

Oh @BIWI thank you so much, I work in central London and would like to travel somewhere different, thank you so ,ugh for your suggestions Thanks
