Live in south London and a weekend away

Hi

OH and I desperately need a weekend away, we live in south London (near Wimbledon) we want to go away somewhere within a maximum of 90 mins drive, we don't want to do coastal.

We would like a nice hotel, maybe a spa hotel, a bit of a town or city.

Please recommend

Another vote for Tunbridge Wells

Thanks so much all for he helpful posters, the snippy has bed I hope you're felling less bitter today!

I booked a "central" tunbridge wells hotel with parking only £5 a day.

Thanks for all the recommendations, much appreciated.

As I said before, me and OH desperately need a break.

Sussex? Around Lewes is nice. You could go to wakehurst which is lush and near Haywards Heath. Walk on the Downs, do some Bloomsbury stuff.

DH and I spent a few fantastic days in Oxfordshire not too long ago now.
I know that stately homes are much of a muchness generally but Blenheim Palace was extraordinary.
There’s a lot to do in the city ( we didn’t go in) but we understand that parking in the city is very difficult.

TheBananaInPyjamas · 09/08/2020 10:50

Aw yay glad you found somewhere! Tunbridge Wells is lovely. Definitely go for drinks on the Pantiles! Enjoy your break!

Pittapitta · 09/08/2020 11:17

Not sure why the OP got such a hard time? Enjoy your much needed break away!

Icequeen01 · 09/08/2020 11:26

God people are being so nasty to you Op 😡 I was going to suggest Kent. Some beautiful villages to explore. Tenterden is lovely and also has the steam railway to Bodiam. Sissinghurst Gardens are nearby too although you would have to book. If you stayed in Tunbridge Wells they would be about a 45 minute drive for you.

ConstantlyCooking · 09/08/2020 12:46

Windsor, Beaconsfield and St Albans are nice. If you stay in beaconsfield you can spend a day in Windsor. Also Box Hill in Surrey is lovely and can recommend Marlow.

@doityourselfnow - oxymoron username 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was about to recommend my favourite getaways, but then I saw your responses to @Lockheart and I don’t think I want you anywhere near those lovely places.🤔

llarreggub · 09/08/2020 20:19

Hope you have a lovely time in Tunbridge Wells and in the area. Not surprised you want to escape South London!

@llarreggub south London is wonderful, house prices always climbing, so multi cultural, it's wonderful!

You sound massively jealous, where do you live?

@Icequeen01 it's got worse! Ffs! Wink

Petworth is beautiful! Not sure about a spa but there's a beautiful place to stay called "The old railway station" You can either stay in a king pullmans carriage or in the old station. Breakfast is great, locally sourced and just yummy. You can always have afternoon tea on the platform with Champers! There's a pub 2min walk and other attractions near by, such as a museum and NT place!

Lucky2Be · 09/08/2020 21:00

Oh sorry, just seen you've booked some where. 🤦‍♀️ have a good time!

doityourselfnow · 09/08/2020 21:02

@Lucky2Be no worries, a good recommendation for next time.

I hope you have a lovely time @doityourselfnow. I have both lived and worked in Tunbridge Wells and you will find lots to do and see. I'm just sorry you to had to go through all that nonsense before you finally got some sensible suggestions!
