Hi

OH and I desperately need a weekend away, we live in south London (near Wimbledon) we want to go away somewhere within a maximum of 90 mins drive, we don't want to do coastal.

We would like a nice hotel, maybe a spa hotel, a bit of a town or city.

Please recommend

Tylney Hall www.tylneyhall.co.uk
Just had the most amazing weekend there. I know you're sorted now, but just for future ref. Have a lovely weekend.

I have no clue why this got a bit heated with a perfectly reasonable ask for ideas recommendations. Hope you have a lovely weekend. TW has lots of little galleries and eateries.

doityourselfnow · 10/08/2020 07:34

Thanks @Flyingarcher I've been looking, it looks a great place.

Some of the responses to the OP were strange. Smacks of jealousy.

minnieok · 10/08/2020 09:14

Bath, tumbridge Wells, Oxford, Cambridge - all quieter (and cheaper) than normal due to lack of American tourists

minnieok · 10/08/2020 09:16

@TheBananaInPyjamas

If you can hack the journey, Buxton has a station.

Ooh fab, thanks!

Not sure why people are being so carry, such a reasonable question to ask! And I've found this whole thread very useful, so will be saving it to my bookmarks to look back on and plan some weekends!

Also South London is great 😉

TheBananaInPyjamas · 10/08/2020 11:54

So catty*

Lobsterquadrille2 · 11/08/2020 11:42

Some strange answers to a perfectly reasonable question. I'm in TW OP, and I hope you have a lovely time here.

Pittapitta · 11/08/2020 14:15

Wow this thread is awful. The Op asked a question that many people have asked before. I saw a thread recently wondering if MN is toxic. This thread could well be evidence for the yes it is argument.

Op have a fab time!

doityourselfnow · 11/08/2020 14:53

Thanks @Pittapitta @Lobsterquadrille2 and @TheBananaInPyjamas

I put it down to the heat, jealousy and hormones! Grin

I recommend Hever Castle to stay. The accommodation is

Pandamumium · 11/08/2020 15:03

Sorry hit Post by mistake.
I recommend Hever Castle itself. The accommodation is great. A small hotel in the grounds of the castle itself. You can gat afternoon tea and breakfast but it doesn’t serve dinner.
The castle and grounds are well worth a visit.

South Lodge- amazing spa and restaurant
Ockenden Manor- lovely spa, outdoor pool, okay restaurant but in a lovely village with restaurants and a 5 minute taxi ride from Haywards Heath
Baliffscourt Court- Climping, by the sea and lovely spa.
The Welldiggers Arms, Petworth, lovely pub with rooms no spa, amazing countryside.

Have a look at Rye, the George.

DelilahfromDevon · 11/08/2020 15:15

How about Pennyhill Park? It's very nice.
Or Lime Wood in New Forest.

LakieLady · 11/08/2020 15:16

@Phineyj, Lewes doesn't really have a decent hotel any more. The White Hart is beyond shite, Shelleys has really gone downhill, Pelham House is now just a wedding venue. Berkley House is sweet but only a B&B, and I suspect if you want a B&B you'd find something as nice and cheaper via the tourist information office.

And it's very short of decent places to eat: mostly chains, pub grub or Indian/Chinese, nothing worth going out of your way for imo. (There was a fabulous independent family-run Italian, but it closed down a couple of years ago).

And then there's the parking. Or rather, there isn't parking, and what there is is punitively expensive plus it's hard to find somewhere in the centre where you can park for more than a couple of hours.

Apart from that, it's a lovely town and has one of the prettiest high streets and town centre parks you'll find anywhere.

LakieLady · 11/08/2020 15:18

Hope you enjoy TW, OP.

My SIL lives there and we go there quite a bit. Lovely town, as so many of the old spa towns seem to be.

Outnumbered99 · 11/08/2020 15:19

Stratford Upon Avon?

Phineyj · 11/08/2020 21:13

That's a shame. Fortunately the OP's plumped for Tun Wells and I always stay at Blackberry Wood. I can't imagine a bigger waste of money than a luxury hotel with a small kid! Sigh...

doityourselfnow · 11/08/2020 21:15

@Phineyj I don't have a small kid! Mine are 29 & 27!

What made you think I had a small kid? Sigh

OP posts:
doityourselfnow · 11/08/2020 21:16

@Phineyj apologies! I think you've got te all kid and would like to go to a spa hotel?

Sorry!

No GC yet, can I babysit for you?
