Live in south London and a weekend away

Hi

OH and I desperately need a weekend away, we live in south London (near Wimbledon) we want to go away somewhere within a maximum of 90 mins drive, we don't want to do coastal.

We would like a nice hotel, maybe a spa hotel, a bit of a town or city.

Please recommend

@JoJoSM2 you're right dorking is lovely, but we often go there just for a "walk" , so it seems a bit too close

@BIWI yes considered Windsor, but would need to go by train, not an I see up, parking is astronomical.

Some great ideas, glad I asked

The Three Lions in Fordingbridge in the New Forest is nice. A foodie pub with rooms and some lovely forest walks.

We had an amazing holiday last year based on recommendations from mumnsnetters. It’s a good idea to ask for recommendations/ideas I think.

@JoJoSM2 love denbies in dorking!

Pennyhill Park in Bagshot, I think, is lovely and has a wonderful spa. Think the "chain" is Exclusive Hotels, all in the south east and all beautiful (if pricy!).

Otherwise, maybe Brighton, Bristol or Bath. Windsor is a good shout too.

Maybe some people get fed up of AIBU being used for any question under the sun?

That's not me being "the thread police" btw, I'm expressing an opinion.

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2020 21:05

Canterbury?

Lotsalotsagiggles · 07/08/2020 21:06

Bath is very lovely and has some nice hotels, river walks and spas and nice restaurants too

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 21:07

@FredaFrogspawn that's lovely, but minimum three night stay and we want two Hmm

Ockendon Manor in a Cuckfield or South Lodge just outside of Horsham (you'd need to drive into town for that one though)

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 21:07

Went to a wedding at south lodge @zzzebra, it's lovely!

minimum three night stay and we want two

Ah sorry, I hadn’t realised.

Leeds2 · 07/08/2020 21:12

South Lodge is one of the Exclusive Hotels I was talking about!

WonderWebbs · 07/08/2020 21:14

@LakieLady Powder Mills and Battle are both lovely and Rye is not far. OP I can definitely recommend Bath or how about my home town of Tunbridge Wells The Spa Hotel is nice as is Hotel du Vin. We have a ange of restaurants to suit all budgets. Or how about one of the Pig Hotels there is one not far from Ashford and they have a good reputation. Happy planning!

@doityourselfnow

Oh *@BIWI* thank you so much, I work in central London and would like to travel somewhere different, thank you so ,ugh for your suggestions Thanks
But 'central London' is a pretty big place - there's loads to do and discover in the capital.
WonderWebbs · 07/08/2020 21:19

if you come to TW Penshurst Place and Hever Castle are both lovely to visit. Lots of good country pubs too. Near Ashford you have several vineyards and wine tasting tours, Chapel Down, Gusbourne or Hush Heath.

doityourselfnow · 07/08/2020 21:19

@BIWI yeah but I want to travel out of London, preferably!
