Thanks Rousette!

Three presidents spoke at the funeral of Congressman John Lewis and none of them were named Donald J Trump.

Three presidents embraced the struggle for rights. Trump suggested postponing the election.

Trump in 2016 was unbelievable.
Trump in 2020 is unbearable.
Roll on November...

Love the countdown clock!

Biden likely to name his running mate in second week of August.
www.washingtonpost.com/politics/biden-likely-to-name-his-running-mate-in-second-week-of-august/2020/07/31/38dd92c2-d366-11ea-9038-af089b63ac21_story.html

Joe Biden will most likely announce his running mate in the second week of August, again breaking a self-imposed deadline for unveiling the choice, according to two people familiar with his plans.
Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, initially said he’d select his running mate by Aug. 1. Then on Tuesday, he told reporters that he intended to make up his mind by the end of the first week of August, which would be Aug. 8.
“I’m going to have a choice in the first week in August,” he said, “and I promise I’ll let you know when I do.”
But Friday, two people familiar with Biden’s vice-presidential search process said the announcement is not likely to come next week.
There are political reasons for Biden to unveil the pick relatively shortly before the Aug. 17 kickoff of the Democratic National Convention, since that timing could add some excitement to the gathering while minimizing the opportunity for Republican attacks. Some Biden allies have been urging him to make the announcement around Aug. 10.
...
Making the announcement just a few days before the convention would allow Biden to build buzz for the party’s quadrennial meeting, with less time for the Trump campaign to define the VP choice in negative terms. The running mate is slated to get a major speaking slot at the convention.

Thanks Roussette. I won't ask anyone to count back from 100 in sevens but will just pop this here.

Elephant in the room.

That pic made me laugh!

I doubt Trumpy can manage even two steps back from 100 in sevens!

Thanks Roussette. I won't ask anyone to count back from 100 in sevens but will just pop this here.

Elephant in the room.

Are you sure it's an elephant? Not a fat horse fighting with Henry Hoover?
lionheart · 01/08/2020 08:53

Depends on the angle I reckon. Smile

Lweji · 01/08/2020 09:22

Even Dubbya would look better in that company. At least he can speak in full sentences.

Lweji · 01/08/2020 10:54

It's possible that Fox may return to its usual Trump sycophantic mode.
Not sure how much influence he had, but I don't think this is a good sign.

James Murdoch resigns from News Corp. board over ‘disagreements’ about editorial content

This from the countdown page puzzles me:

"The more states and seats that the Republican Party can hang onto, the greater chance the President has of winning the election."

I don't get it. I thought the voting was on the same day for all these things, so the number of states and seats the Republican party will have hung on to won't be known when people vote for the President, and so whether they will have been hung on to can't make any difference because it isn't known. Or am I missing something really obvious?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/08/2020 12:00

James Murdoch has not been on the "same side" as his dad for quite some time (if ever). A lot of disagreement over climate change and climate change denial. (Elder Murdoch being a climate change sceptic)
Also James and wife have contributed $$$$ to Biden's campaign.

His brother Lachlan will take over the role so likely to follow his Dad's approach as he is more aligned editorially and has similar conservative views.

This is more about print media than Fox - but views will permeate no doubt.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/08/2020 12:03

Still thinking about the countdown clock: am I being very horrible if I hope hard that Susan Collins loses her seat? I really dislike her for her lying and pretend-havering; I dislike that even more than I dislike Mitch McConnell's naked greed and nastiness. She is slimy.

BruceAndNosh · 01/08/2020 12:11

The Murdoch Press has history in changing sides politically , the famous "it was The Sun wot won it" headline after the tabloid newspaper switched from supporting Labour to being a Tory one.
Of course there is debate about if The Sun really "won it" or Murdoch just predicted a Tory win and wanted to be on the winning side.

Fox has certainly been less Trump friendly recently but it might well get back on board fully with James Murdoch gone

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/08/2020 12:24

Asking I read that as meaning if the Republicans manage to hold their Senate seats and keep the majority of Governors in the "up for grabs" states then it means presidential part of the election will be much more likely to go Trump's way.

The ballot papers are extensive - several positions (depending on the State) are being voted for at the same time as the presidential ballot. So in theory you could vote for a Democratic Senator you liked but go for a Republican President!

lionheart · 01/08/2020 12:25

Not horrible at all, Asking.

You reap what you sow.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/08/2020 12:32

My list of Republican Senators I'd like to see gone is quite extensive Grin
But my StarTop 3Star are:

  1. McConnell
  2. Graham
  3. Collins

Bonus Ball: Congress Representative Jim Jordan

Fingers crossed.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/08/2020 14:27

Is that it then, why Graham has recently started to talk a bit like a human being? I was hoping it was something a bit deeper than sniffing the winds of his own re-election chances.

Roussette · 01/08/2020 15:04

No you are not being horrible because if you are, I am too! She is The Most Annoying woman. Her simpery voice and ridiculous tweets do my 'ead in!
What finally did it for me was her tweeting after the impeachment hearings saying that Trumpy will definitely have learnt his lesson from this. As if! She didn't believe that as she was saying it.
She does something that is one of my pet hates. She runs with the foxes and hunts with the hounds, which means she says what she thinks people want to hear, but then flip flops when it doesn't go right.

We have friends in Maine. They can't stand her!

NorthWest that's my list too but I'd move Jim Jordan up the list a bit. He is so rude at hearings, and FFS put a jacket on man. And he is slimy and a liar.

Had to get that off my chest 🤣

'Fears over the Covid-19 pandemic, a perception of rising crime and worries over civil unrest and political instability in the wake of anti-racism protests have sparked Americans to buy firearms at a record pace – with about 40% being first-time buyers, according to one leading gun rights group.'

cozietoesie · 01/08/2020 19:26

BruceAndNosh · 01/08/2020 19:46

Will Trump think that more guns in public hands is LAW AND ORDER?

(BTW there's a wag on Twitter who responds to LAW AND ORDER! with HAIR AND MAKEUP!)
