To be majorly pissed off at new lockdown rules?

Teen DD has been looking forward to Eid for weeks. She has desperately been waiting to see the rest of her family and now we've been absolutely screwed over. She cried for most of the morning on and off and I'm just so annoyed that she's entering this state of absolute desolation again because she wasn't given a chance to prepare for Eid not being on. She was okay the last time if not very bored because she knew what was happening but this time she's just absolutely gutted. AIBU to be so angry? I just feel like it's ruined our day and I've wasted a whole load of money that I won't get back on food.

I’m so sorry. It must be so hard emotionally for all who had plans for Eid this weekend.

Can you imagine the govt giving 3houes notice that Christmas was cancelled? 🤔

Zoecarter · 31/07/2020 20:22

I am so sorry this has happened it feels
Massively unfair.

Tyranttoddler · 31/07/2020 20:24

The way it was communicated was totally unacceptable too. Really sorry.

WorraLiberty · 31/07/2020 20:24

It's an awful shame and we might all be in this same position at Christmas.

I was only saying to my DH today, that we'd better plan accordingly, or as much as is possible.

Grumpymum789 · 31/07/2020 20:25

No it’s awful, I live in Greater Manchester and the 2 hours noticed was disgraceful.
I know it’s beside the point but can the good not be saved / frozen ? Flowers
Eid Mubarak

Grumpymum789 · 31/07/2020 20:25

Food not good (Sorry)

WellWhyNot · 31/07/2020 20:25

I’m so sorry OP. It sounds so tough on your DD - and on you! I think the government’s plan was really badly judged and it comes across as very unfair. I completely understand you’ll have wanted to celebrate it this weekend - and I think you should’ve definitely been given the chance to. Is there a chance at all that you can postpone the celebration until a few months’ time (I realise that’s difficult though, as it’s impossible to tell what rules the next few months will bring!) Just really sorry about this situation.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 31/07/2020 20:28

I cannot for a minute imagine that this government would introduce these rules on Christmas Eve.

YANBU OP and I hope you manage somehow to have a decent Eid. FlowersCake

CraftyGin · 31/07/2020 20:28

We were all gutted at missing Holy Week and Easter.

Let’s not turn this year not a sectarian thing.

The lockdown has been intensified because the rules were being flouted and the virus spread to worrying levels.

We always knew that the lockdown would be loosened but tightened again if necessary.

We have to act now to give us the best chance of schools returning on time.

Pelleas · 31/07/2020 20:29

It should have been planned much better - this seems to be a last minute panic decision - the govt being reactive not proactive as they have been all along. I agree if it had been Christmas 'cancelled' at 2 hours' notice there'd have been an uproar.

Eid Mubarak & hoping you manage to salvage something from your plans Flowers.

Longwhiskers14 · 31/07/2020 20:29

The way it was announced with no notice was appalling and I'm so sorry for your daughter and you and everyone else looking forward to celebrating. It absolutely would be like cancelling Christmas at 10.30 on Christmas Eve and it's wrong that the Government didn't even have the grace to announce it at a press conference and just tweeted it! I hope you can salvage some kind of celebration but I don't blame you for being so fed up.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2020 20:30

It's sad, and it's hard, but don't you want you and your family to be safe?

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2020 20:31

Eid Mubarak OP, from Kirklees

thepeopleversuswork · 31/07/2020 20:31

I think the government is probably doing the right thing from the perspective of public health, big picture.

But I agree that the lack of notice ahead of Eid was pretty disrespectful. There's no way on earth this would have been sprung upon people three hours before Christmas Day. This government has pretty poor form for considering the impact of its decisions on minority communities so I'm not surprised, but it must be very upsetting for people who have had the holiday ruined.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/07/2020 20:32

Yeah it’s shit

But I thought we were still in only two households mixing or 6 people at most from different households.

So what exactly were you planning?

CraftyGin · 31/07/2020 20:32

Announcing at 10.30 pm on Christmas Eve is not the same thing at all.

gobbynorthernbird · 31/07/2020 20:33

Eid Mubarak OP and family.

It's been really badly handled, and is nothing like being in lockdown over Easter given the ridiculously short notice.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 31/07/2020 20:33

And please stop comparing it to Christmas. I understood is more comparable to Easter.

Which didn’t happen in terms of families getting together.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 31/07/2020 20:33

It’s crap, but better than spreading the virus more and having more severe lockdown in two weeks time.

As to other poster regarding Christmas - we’ve missed a whole host of Christian festivals already, including Holy Week and Pentecost. It’s rubbish for everyone.

gobbynorthernbird · 31/07/2020 20:34

@CraftyGin

Announcing at 10.30 pm on Christmas Eve is not the same thing at all.
How so?
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/07/2020 20:34

True, we did miss out on Easter.

mediciempire · 31/07/2020 20:35

@Grumpymum789 I will try and freeze some of the food but I'm never sure it tastes the same after. Will give it a go though rather than chucking it away.

@CraftyGin Not sure where I claimed it had any sort of precedence over the Holy Week or Easter? Here's my main issue with this comparison: you knew you wouldn't be able to celebrate with family. That celebration is more comparable with Eid al Fitr. Eid al Adha, however, was presented as if we would be able to celebrate so we shed out a whole load of money on food.

@ChardonnaysPetDragon Of course but I'm not sure how going to pubs, restaurants and shops with dozens of other households are more safe than having a socially distanced garden party?

CraftyGin · 31/07/2020 20:35

How?

Itsallpointless · 31/07/2020 20:36

Badly handled or not, it's upsetting for everyone, but this is serious stuff.

We've all missed out on something, but it's for the greater good isn't it?

PotholeParadise · 31/07/2020 20:36

YANBU. This has all the hallmarks of the usual management style of looking at the data coming in, sticking their heads in the sand and leaving the decision to the very last minute in the hope it would turn out to be unnecessary to make any changes.

It's not fair on anyone.
