Teen DD has been looking forward to Eid for weeks. She has desperately been waiting to see the rest of her family and now we've been absolutely screwed over. She cried for most of the morning on and off and I'm just so annoyed that she's entering this state of absolute desolation again because she wasn't given a chance to prepare for Eid not being on. She was okay the last time if not very bored because she knew what was happening but this time she's just absolutely gutted. AIBU to be so angry? I just feel like it's ruined our day and I've wasted a whole load of money that I won't get back on food.

In our case it's been made public that the spike leading to our additional measures was in the 17-24 age group, in an affluent, middle class, largely white area. Not the demographic having their celebrations cancelled at the 11th hour.
I totally agree with the additional measures being brought in even tho I am personally affected. My gripe is how/when it was done.

Everyone who is still scared of Covid19, please, read the latest update on the virus.

swprs.org/a-swiss-doctor-on-covid-19/
Point 22 is very important: the official virus test was not clinically validated due to time pressure and may sometimes react positive to some common coronaviruses.

Those who scared to send their children to school, please, read point 24.

Also there was an article in Telegraph today that the lockdown in the North was not backed up by data.

Please, stop living in fear, you are being manipulated.

Please everyone who is NOT scared read this post from a MNetter today: Got diagnosed yesterday, dh has to bring the kids down to be tested on his own today and I have to stay away from everyone for two weeks. Sorry to be the gloomy one. It is good they're figuring out all this stuff, I wouldn't wish this on anyone

you are being manipulated

By whom and for what purpose?

llangollen11 · 03/08/2020 09:21

The government has no clue about the real world and the timing of some of the changes has been awful and just upset people.

Higher cases were known about earlier. I think the government on Friday panicked into the changes they made.

My son (healthy, slim,14 yrs old) was very very ill and nearly hospitalised with Covid. He’s only starting to look well again now and he caught it at the end of May. I’ve still got a cough and weird chest thing and my husband still doesn’t feel ok when he does any physical work eg a spot of gardening. Also his fingernail fell off (bizarrely) with ‘Covid fingers’. It’s a very nasty illness and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. God help any vulnerable people if they catch it.
And it isn’t the fact that we aren’t dead which makes it ‘mild’. If my DH had a physical job, he wouldn’t be able to do it for a few months. I know someone who’s mother is now non verbal after a stroke caused by Covid. All this conspiracy bollocks really annoys me. It’s pure selfishness. Anyone claiming they’ll take their risks doesn’t understand what they are potentially inflicting upon themselves, their family and society as a whole.

And all over the world? Get real!! My brother was in critical care with it. Someone I know's mother was critically ill and expected to die from it an survived. I know nurses that have seen people suffering from covid so no, you are wrong. I think the website you refer to is false.
MrDarcysMa · 03/08/2020 13:33

Op such a disappointment for you and your family. I doubt the govt would have cancelled Christmas at such short notice.

But hopefully you'll take some comfort from knowing that you and your family are being on the safe side x

Flaxmeadow · 03/08/2020 14:12

short notice...

I'm from the north of England, in one of the affected areas, and we have had plenty of warnings that something like this might happen. It had been warned about in the local news and media for weeks before the announcement at 9pm.

Govt and science will be getting the numbers and data hour by hour. They obviously saw the latest data and acted immediately.

A shame that arrangements had to be altered, not just Eid, but this is a crisis and we need to consider the bigger picture in our area

Sudofuckoff · 03/08/2020 16:07

Well said , it’s a real fucker of a disease and as you said some people get it and get it BAD
We do need to remind ourselves of this

mediciempire · 03/08/2020 18:44

I'm going to report this thread and ask for it to be taken down in a bit because I refuse to read thinly veiled racism and accusations of it being solely my demographic that have caused the coronavirus.

randomer · 03/08/2020 18:51

Where is the thinly veiled racism please?

This " you are being manipulated" thing.......as previously asked, by whom and why?

cyclingmad · 04/08/2020 07:49

Who said it was Muslims who caused it? I certainly never did, I said people in your area which is anyone of any type of background 🤔

As other posters have said and back up what I'm saying, there have been news for days of increasing cases and warnings...place your blame and anger at people in your areas for causing it then, no matter who they are or what age that contributed to it.

Thats why I say your aibu is unreasonable.

Its not like cases exploded overnight and it came out of the blue, its been building up so if u were paying attention you would of been prepared.

walksen · 04/08/2020 07:51

"Please, stop living in fear, you are being manipulated"

Do you work for the GRU?

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 04/08/2020 08:19

* "Its not like cases exploded overnight and it came out of the blue, its been building up so if u were paying attention you would of been prepared.*"
Actually where I live went from one of the lowest in the country to one of the highest not quite overnight but within a few days.

cyclingmad · 04/08/2020 09:38

And since yday its been in the media how London could face a lockdown....now if next week they suddenly announced it im not gonna be devastated if any plans i had of family coming to my house are suddenly cancelled. We've been warned and seeing what's happened in Leicester is enough for me to manage my expectations. Of course I'll be annoyed but it'll be at all those people who refuse to just keep to the guidlines

ConcreteUnderpants · 04/08/2020 10:43

Yes it’s shit.
My wedding was cancelled, my mother’s operation was cancelled...Easter..birthdays, lots of people have had to deal with things.

I’m very much annoyed, believe me, but not disgusted or an emotional wreck. Times are strange at the moment and the bigger picture is important.

Funny how even the Tory press are reporting the northern lockdown isn't supported by data...
