To go for a run at 5 am?

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

You have been told to quarantine, I think it would be wise to do so.

SockYarn · 29/07/2020 07:57

Unfortunately the law is that you don't leave the house.

FunnyInjury · 29/07/2020 07:59

Who will know 🤷‍♀️ if you dont see anyone then really what does it matter!
Run, and enjoy it!

Regulus · 29/07/2020 07:59

And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter.

CatsForLife · 29/07/2020 08:00

I suppose it’s more about if you fell over or passed out or something and needed help. You are potentially involving other people when you should be staying in.

Sexnotgender · 29/07/2020 08:00

I wouldn’t. You’re not meant to leave your house.

P0lka · 29/07/2020 08:02

"Who will know" - everyone else up and about at that time! I went cycling at 5 this morning, and saw dozens of people in a relatively quiet, rural area. Yes itll be easier to avoid people/you'll have more room to pass them; but you'll still see people!

Honestly I'm a little bit peeved at people who went abroad, and now don't fancy following in the rules; while I'm not one for bleaching my fruit and veg, or starting a lunch mob anytime someone sneezes, sometimes you have to put the needs of the many ab0ve the needs of yourself.

ECBC · 29/07/2020 08:02

Nope sorry, stay at home

FunnyInjury · 29/07/2020 08:02

Really? How so?

Serious question Confused

If OP runs at 5am I'm sure she can plan a solitary route and go near no-one.

What risk does she pose? Even if she had the virus. How would she be spreading it?

StuckInPollyannaMode · 29/07/2020 08:03

I went for a 6am run this morning, so I know where you’re coming from in terms of wanting to get out.

The law is the law though so no, I wouldn’t. I’d stick to quarantine.

vanillandhoney · 29/07/2020 08:03

No, because going out of the house isn't really what it means to quarantine Hmm

happystory · 29/07/2020 08:03

I really can't see what harm that would do if you don't stop anywhere or talk to anyone

StuckInPollyannaMode · 29/07/2020 08:04

I live rurally and it was a quiet route - I still saw at least 10 people though - normally I’d be lucky to see 1! Lots of runners, dog walkers etc.

Lockheart · 29/07/2020 08:04

The quarantine rules don't just apply between the hours of 7am - 7pm.

You can go for a run in a couple of weeks.

stoploss · 29/07/2020 08:05

Why do you think you should be exempt from quarantine?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/07/2020 08:05

I can’t see the harm either.

I’d go earlier though, so there’s no chance of meeting early dog walkers. I’m out with my dogs by 6.00.

Crunchymum · 29/07/2020 08:05

If you are going to do it OP (and I'm sure you will) then MN isn't the place to seek permission Shock

SockYarn · 29/07/2020 08:05

Who will know - all the MN curtain twitchers and covid-police who will be practically wetting themselves with the excitement of shopping the OP to the real police.

I totally get the logic that OP is unlikely to have Covid in the first place, unlikely to meet anyone on her run, and even more unlikely to pass it on if she runs past someone. It's zero risk, almost.

But the law is clear - for once.

FunnyInjury · 29/07/2020 08:05

Exactly happy

I really only think this mindset exists on MN though anyway!

OddestSock · 29/07/2020 08:06

I get wanting to go out and exercise. Unfortunately though, I'd say it is unreasonable. I had a look at the guidelines to make sure, and it says if you are self isolating, that does include not going outside to exercise.

scochran · 29/07/2020 08:07

I love an early run, just been for one at 5, thought this was what it was about! Was going to say go for it but now not so sure. I really struggled when we were only allowed out once a day as love a run and also needed to walk the dogs as now too old to run with me. If, like me, lack of exercise is not good for mental stability could you do a brutal high intensity workout from YouTube?

LittleMissBrainy · 29/07/2020 08:08

Ok, this might seem like a stupid question but even in the height of lockdown you could still get your daily exercise, you just had to follow the rules and not go within 2m of anyone. Why is quarantine any different?

ZeldalovesLink · 29/07/2020 08:08

The running itself wouldn’t be a cause for concern for me, but what if you had an accident or fell and hurt yourself? I think it’s eventualities like that you need to guard against, unfortunately.

user159 · 29/07/2020 08:08

what happens if you hurt yourself or something else bad happens that means you need assistance or hospital treatment? I know accidents can happen in the home too but by going out you are putting yourself at (a very small) risk. That would be the main reason as to why I wouldn't.

Toastyapples · 29/07/2020 08:08

The law is the law and this is not the law which people seem weirdly happy to forget. This is guidance, not a law! No law has been passed to say you legally have to quarantine. So you can do whatever you want to do. Simply try to be mindful of others which is the considerate thing to do and keep aware so you are keeping your distance from others. But don't panic that you're going to be arrested as so many on MN would evidently love to happen to you for daring to go out on an early morning run 🙄
