To go for a run at 5 am?

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 07:38

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

OP is far more likely to need help due to injury if she follows the rules to the letter and stays at home gardening/cooking/doing DIY.

That's not to say she should do as she pleases but really, the needing assistance argument is ridiculous

JSW642 · 29/07/2020 13:18

If you live rurally and are unlikely to see anyone I'd go!

bibbitybobbitycats · 29/07/2020 13:33

thesedaysarescary

All the posters saying you can't see a problem with it how would you feel if they were asking if it was ok to pop to the shops

But the guidance state that people quarantining CAN go to the shops if they have absolutely no other alternative. So the OP could arguably go for a run to the shops and back at the busiest time of day and still be within the rules. As usual, it's all so inconsistent and full of holes.

malmi · 29/07/2020 13:41

Of course people can go to the shops if they have absolutely no alternative. They're not expected to starve to death in their homes. But that's not the case for OP.

Divebar · 29/07/2020 13:52

Some people seem incapable of putting aside their own “wants” for the benefit of their communities/ society.

TimeWastingButFun · 29/07/2020 14:03

No, you're not allowed to go out.

TimeWastingButFun · 29/07/2020 14:07

What risk does she pose? Even if she had the virus. How would she be spreading it?
Someone might come close without her knowing
She might sprain her ankle running and need medical attention
She might get locked out and need to call a locksmith
She might need to touch things that are touched by others (gates etc)
I know these things are unlikely, and that things could also happen at home, but it is much more unlikely there that she would come into contact with someone.

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 14:25

I'm not going to go. I live in a village and if someone sees me they may report me. I wouldn't touch anything if I did go, I wouldn't go near anyone and in 10 years of running I've fallen a few times but always got home alright, I get the point though.

Yes, it was my choice to go on holiday so I guess I'll just have to accept the consequences and do some decorating, read and chill!
I was every busy all through lockdown and was lucky enough to be out and about a lot so I will take this time as a rest.

Can anyone tell me, is it 10 or 14 days for quarantine? I've googled but can't find any definite information, then again knowing Boris there probably isn't any!

I caught coronavirus from someone I work with. DH, a keen runner, had to quarantine for 14 days. He did it as they're the rules. No running for 14 days at 5am or any other time. We didn't even get a lovely holiday just the stress of me having CV. The rules are there for a reason and apply to all at all times.

BIWI · 29/07/2020 15:12

The other issue is that this is an airborne virus, and it's not clear yet for how long the particles stay in the air - although some experts are saying it could be for hours. So even if the OP goes for a run and doesn't see anybody, she could be running in/through a cloud of invisible particles from someone who was there before her.

That's the risk to you, @Darkdecent - but equally, if you have picked up the virus, someone else could be infected in the same way. They may think they've gone out early and haven't seen anyone else - but if you've been running there just before them, your infected particles may still be in the air for them to breathe.

mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 15:13

It is 14 days. There is some discussion of possibly reducing it to 10 days for people who get 2 negative tests

Etinox · 29/07/2020 15:18

@Regulus

And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter.
Yep
Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 15:21

"And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter."

Because someone goes for a run, outdoors at 5am in the full expectation of seeing no one and will stay well way if they did ? I'm a rule follower and I wouldn't do it but come on.

Cheetahfajita · 29/07/2020 15:23

14 days.

I'm glad you've decided to do the quarantine but I've read hundreds of comments from people saying they won't.

Same idiots saying they won't wear 'a muzzle' either as they aren't the same as the rest of us sheeple.

It's so depressing.

Chocoholic12 · 29/07/2020 15:24

No! You may bump into people but with running you may fall and hurt yourself then some poor nhs worker will have to come into contact with you.

luckylavender · 29/07/2020 15:25

The government repeatedly tells us that it trusts the common sense of the British people who we then find out don't even understand the word quarantine. Everyone is entitled to a holiday & then entitled to do what the Hell they want afterwards. And don't call me stasi or curtain twitcher, the joke us wearing thin.

bibbitybobbitycats · 29/07/2020 15:29

Etinox the reason we could possibly be fucked this winter is because this government doesn't know its bum from its elbow and about turns like a weather vane and is going to also take us to no deal Brexit.

The vast majority of people are sticking to the rules, (including all those who came back from Spain before 26th July who will all be in the supermarkets, shops and pubs this week).

Frazzled2207 · 29/07/2020 15:29

I’m a runner and absolutely would. Would go either very early or very late and would absolutely know where to go which would mean I would not come into contact with anyone. I would probably unlike usual take my phone so that if I did get injured could call dh rather than rely on a passerby.

Happyheartlovelife · 29/07/2020 15:30

@Darkdecent. Nearly all the towns around Alicante have been hit. There isn’t one which wasn’t. I know as I have family all around there. My whole family live out there

You’ve been told to quarantine.

I was behind some woman who said I don’t see why we need to wear masks to the shops now. Corona virus has gone hasn’t it!

Sadly the government put it in place that people coming back from Spain need to quarantine. Suck it up buttercup. This was always a risk when going abroad.

I myself might be going to Spain. We both do work from home though. Otherwise we wouldn’t of even dreamt of going. I was shielding. So 2 weeks inside after doesn’t bother me

Toilenstripes · 29/07/2020 15:32

Why can’t you just do as you’re told? 🙄

TheGlitterFairy · 29/07/2020 15:40

Agree with Riojasmoothy - just take your own risk assessment and go for a run early doors as you normally would do. As for all these people who have time on their hands to be taking photos and calling the police, utterly absurd.

Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 15:43

I think it's a scary world indeed if we all start "doing as we're told" without ever questioning it.

luckylavender · 29/07/2020 15:47

@Alloverthegrapevine - because the virus isn't at all scary? I give up really.

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 15:51

@Riojasmoothy

Problem is. My mother has been told by her dr. She will die if she gets Covid. There’s an 96% chance.

So if your asymptomatic. Are you happy to pass that to her? The woman hasn’t been out since end of feb and her dr is requesting that she stay in for the foreseeable future. Because of people like you! Those who go. Oh god. It won’t kill me. It doesn’t kill most. But some people have no immune system. My mother is a very sick woman and I’ve read on here that it’s ok. Cos this disease only kills the sick or the old. So who cares? Well that sick and older person is a mother. A grandmother. She’s a VERY loved woman. But hey. It’s one less person who needs treatment on the nhs.

People don’t think of others anymore. They don’t remember that this virus can and does kill healthy people. Let alone the sick.

Just as long as you’re ok yeah?

Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 15:54

I'm not saying OP should run but to blindly do as we're told without even asking the question? That is terrifying
