I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

@Alloverthegrapevine

"And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter."

Because someone goes for a run, outdoors at 5am in the full expectation of seeing no one and will stay well way if they did ? I'm a rule follower and I wouldn't do it but come on.

No, because some people in this country (a scary number if MN is anything to go by) are selfish bastards who believes rules don't apply to them and will try to find ways to get round them.

Because, you know, I'm ok so fuck everyone else, it's not like my actions in a pandemic can impact other people or anything 🤔

And no doubt it will be the same people that jump up and down and stamp their feet when areas start getting locked down because 'somehow' the virus starts spreading again

Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 16:07

I get that but I'm sure it's only a few weeks since we were told common sense. Personally I liked the defined rules better but having being asked to use common sense, I'm not surprised OP is questioning this.

mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 16:12

@Alloverthegrapevine

I'm not saying OP should run but to blindly do as we're told without even asking the question? That is terrifying
grow up.

I've sick of all these posters thinking they are so clever because they don't want to do what they are told.

We have a self centred and narcissistic society where a certain percentage of the population is so entitled they genuinely think the government should be gently enticing them and encouraging them, rather than ordering them

Overall ( and I know it isn't everyone)he UK is showing itself to be the most emotionally immature country in the world

That is why we have the highest death rate in the world.

Because so many precious little UK snowflakes don't like being told what to do

Do you understand this is a pandemic? Do you understand we all need to act together to get out of this pandemic. Do you understnd that this pathetic, bolshy, tantrummy attitude is going to keep us in a pnademic.

People will die. Thousands of people. Because of this attitude of " o no, I'm to clever and grown up to be told what to do"

This is an attitude you should have grown out of by the age of 2 and a half.

What is "terrifying" is that we are dependent on these idiots to kindly condescend to toe the line, for our actual lives.

maybe you will die yourself.

@Hubstar Your post is spot on...says it all!

feelingfragile · 29/07/2020 16:13

@Palavah

It's certainly frustrating that if you were self-isolating a couple of months ago because you or a household member had symptoms you were still allowed out for exercise or to get essentials if you couldn't get them delivered.
No you weren't.

Self isolating meant not seeing anyone and not leaving the house. This is we have NHS volunteers and shed loads of additional online food deliveries.

Alloverthegrapevine · 29/07/2020 16:17

I've followed all the rules, but surely questioning what our mighty leaders instruct is necessary, whoever they are and whatever the circumstances.

birdy124 · 29/07/2020 16:31

It probably isn't risky but your neighbors will know you went abroad and maybe they will see you out running and report you. Most ppl probably think you are crazy for going abroad during a pandemic, so seeing you out running, flaunting the rules (even if it is really not a risk) could at the very least create bad feelings towards you.

I would just stay in so you can honestly defend yourself and say you quarantined when ppl tell u it's reckless you went on holiday.

Palavah · 29/07/2020 16:35

@feelingfragile yes you were. I checked at the time because i was shocked when my self-isolating neighbour told me she'd gone for a run.

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 16:38

I'm borrowing a treadmill!

I've been so good throughout this whole thing. I haven't got together with family or friends, noone has entered my house, I've respected social distancing and I've despaired at things I've seen on the news and facebook.

When we were allowedd to get together in groups, we did so for my nieces 21st but we still socially distanced and I didn't hug my niece or anyone else.

My big mistake was to go on holiday when this government told use we were allowed, ok I knew the risks but didnt think it would happen so fast.

I will stay in quarantine and run on my treadmill.

Loads of people about at 5am near me. Since Covid everyone is out early. Shed loads of them.
You should say in if you’re in quarantine. Don’t be naughty OP.

SantaClaritaDiet · 29/07/2020 16:42

I don't think you did anything particularly wrong by going on holiday - apart from the risk of bringing the virus with you to another country to be honest, but the borders are opened and so are holiday accommodation, so...why not.
but trying to twist current rules is not right.

The problem is that many people kind of follow the rules, just making exception for what they feel like. Looking at the rates, that's not going very well....

SantaClaritaDiet · 29/07/2020 16:43

Loads of people about at 5am near me. Since Covid everyone is out early.

Around here it's people who are the most at risk who are up and about at 4 - 5am, trying to avoid the crowd (and the heat). It would be even worst to break quarantine at this time frankly.

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 16:43

@birdy124 very true.

sadly it's because of that attitude that we even had a lockdown in the first place... and we are not certain that we won't have another one either.

If people could be trusted to behave responsibly, most of it could have been avoided.

chunkyrun · 29/07/2020 17:08

Current stats, I'll take my chances

BIWI · 29/07/2020 17:18

You'll take your chances? How fucking selfish is that?! What about all the other people you might come into contact with?

you haven't lost many friends and relatives, have you. You haven't witnessed many terrified children struck down with no warning, and left gasping for breath. You haven't been down to the locksmith to make more lift keys for the teenagers in your tutor group that can no longer manage to walk upstairs. You haven't sat on a zoom meeting with your family trying to decide which 10 people can attend your young cousins funeral, and why them. You haven't tried to comfort your recently widowed close friend, also through zoom

In short, you have not YET lived in a hot spot. But don't worry, I am sure you with that attitude you shortly will be, and can enjoy these many and varied experiences.

Thank you. I am glad. I hope you learn to enjoy the treadmill. Its not the same, but at least you can set it up in front of "Vera" ( or whatever you like) which is a bit different from running outside
Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 17:27

Just thinking. I was watching something where they were doing interviews with people who had just got off the plane from Spain and one guy actually said to the reporter "I'm not going to be isolating" I wonder if they'll catch him?!
Do they actually catch anyone?

^^ personal responsibility. Assess however you want. I've not spent this time worrying what others are or aren't doing.

Went out longer for an hour.
Drove for exercise.
Sat on a bench on a few occasions.
Carried on working through with a particular vulnerable group that are all safe and well.
Did "none essential shopping"

Life has to go on. Glad to see people getting back to normal. Bring on a vaccine

What's the harm if the OP meets noone??
