To go for a run at 5 am?

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 07:38

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

OP posts:
Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 17:32

@hubstar so your mother will be also out for a run at 5am and at risk of bumping into OP will she? I'm not saying OP should go dancing round a nursing home, but saying an isolated run puts others at risk is a bit silly.
My has also been shielding but someone jogging past her house isn't going to negate that is it?

SantaClaritaDiet · 29/07/2020 17:33

@Member869894

What's the harm if the OP meets noone??
as the OP is neither a mind reader or able to predict the future, HOW can they know if they will or not...
feelingfragile · 29/07/2020 17:33
@feelingfragile yes you were. I checked at the time because i was shocked when my self-isolating neighbour told me she'd gone for a run.
She was wrong to do so.

Social distancing meant you could do daily exercise and minimal trips to the shop.

Self isolating means exactly that. We did it for a fortnight, under advice and instruction from 111.

dooratheexplorer · 29/07/2020 17:34

Consider what you will do if you trip up, break your leg, get mugged, etc.

What are you going to say when you wind up in A&E?

What are you going to say to the Police?

It's called quarantine for a reason and it's only 14 days. You're not a special snowflake that means that your exempt from it.

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 17:36

@hubstar my mother is also shielding. Therefore she isn't out running at 5am, won't bump into OP and will be safe. Maybe yours should do the same? Isn't the point of sheilding to protect yourself.

ProfessorLayton1 · 29/07/2020 17:38

I work in NHS and we can't afford to have a second peak.. we are all tired, worn out, demoralised and most of us haven't had a break as we are trying to catch with work from the first onslaught! It is only 2 weeks .. just quarantine !

@Riojasmoothy

My response wasn’t too that. My response was yours. When you say who does it hurt. God all this fuss over nothing. The panic!!!

You also didn’t answer my question

You wouldn’t mind making my mother and others sick? Because according to you. None of us needs to panic. Go out when you’ve been told not too!

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 18:15

@81Byerley

Thank you. Glad someone sees that it’s all about the safety of all. Not just your immediate family.

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 18:16

@mosquitofeast

Spot on!

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 18:23

@mosquitofeast

It’s so sad

I saw a little boy. About 4. In the hospital. It was like a group cough. But rasping. Trying to cry. But he literally didn’t have the breath for it. Tears running down his face and the wheeze. It’s almost not from this earth. His mother trying so hard to comfort him. Father wasn’t there as only one parent Allowed so she’s dealing with it all on her own. It was worst than any horror film I’d ever seen.

My friends daughter died. Her funeral was only allowed 6 people there. No one could comfort each other.

I don’t think unless people see it. That they can even comprehend.

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 18:27

@Riojasmoothy

Oh. That was nasty. What you said for the second post. (Why you had to write 2 posts to answer my one. I won’t know.)

RichardMarxisinnocent · 29/07/2020 18:30

not if you were self isolating, you couldn't

You absolutely could go out for exercise if self isolating in at least the first few weeks of lockdown. You weren't allowed other for any other reason. The rules changed at some point to say you couldn't go out at all. There was a discussion about it on another thread a few weeks ago where screenshots of the previous guidance allowing exercise were posted.

laudete · 29/07/2020 18:34

The quarantine period is just one fortnight. Stay indoors. It's not the likelihood of anything bad happening to you or other people if you go out for a run at 5 am. It's that each bending of the rules may lead to more; you may talk yourself into additional risks because you feel it's safe enough.

QueenCT · 29/07/2020 19:33

@Riojasmoothy shielding ends on the 1st
Therefore there is going to be extremely vulnerable people having to go back to work and out and about

JRUIN · 29/07/2020 19:36

Do it OP. and if you do happen to see someone ahead just turn around and run back home again.

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 19:47

@hubstar I never said who does it hurt. Obviously confusing posts.
Also didn't mean to post twice. The first post didn't seem to have sent but then appeared.
My point is this - OP is not coming into contact with anyone. Her solitary run has no impact on amyone else and is therefore totally unrelated to your mother and the many thousands of other people isolating and sheilding.
If the OP had asked about an activity that involved any likelihood of contact my answer would have been different.

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 19:49

@QueenCT
But not at 5am on a run presumably? The point is OP picked a time when she wouldn't have any contact with anyone.

QueenCT · 29/07/2020 19:50

@Riojasmoothy that's the time I'm most likely to go out as I'm shielding! Because I would expect it to be quiet
I wouldn't go out at weekends or busy times

Farahilda · 29/07/2020 19:54

@Toastyapples

The law is the law and this is not the law which people seem weirdly happy to forget. This is guidance, not a law! No law has been passed to say you legally have to quarantine. So you can do whatever you want to do. Simply try to be mindful of others which is the considerate thing to do and keep aware so you are keeping your distance from others. But don't panic that you're going to be arrested as so many on MN would evidently love to happen to you for daring to go out on an early morning run 🙄
Yes, it is law

iVampire · 29/07/2020 19:57

that's the time I'm most likely to go out as I'm shielding!

Me too Sad

It seems there will be no place and no time when we can be reasonably sure the people around us will not be in flagrant breach of infection control measures

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 19:58

@QueenCT maybe OP didn't realise you had reserved the 5am timeslot?

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 20:02

For goodness sake she is talking about a solitary run, not blowing her (potentially) covid infected breath over the veritable crowd of 5am shielders that are also flouting the advice to stay home!
Get a grip Grin.

QueenCT · 29/07/2020 20:05

Not flouting advice Confused we are allowed out for exercise! I go out before work so early or late as it's when it less likely to be busy. So when I went for a walk on the beach, I went at 8pm

It's just a bit fucking frustrating when after 4 MONTHS of being inside someone can't quarantine for 2 weeks. But apparently we should just keep everyone shielding inside no matter we have jobs and lives and should be able to go out. Now we have hoards who won't wear masks, distancing is out the window in so many places and people won't quarantine.. it was safer for shielding to go out in lockdown

BananaCake10 · 29/07/2020 20:07

I think that’s fine, particularly if you aren’t showing symptoms etc. As a runner myself I would not be able to cope mentally without being able to go on a run or leaving the house for a fortnight. Mental health is just as important as your physical health.

If your challenged then can always say you’re testing your eye sight.....
