To go for a run at 5 am?

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

Just go for your run

Derekhello · 29/07/2020 20:12

@Littleoakhorn

OP, seriously, I think you need to ask yourself “what would Dominic Cummings do?”

Hmm

🤣🤣
Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 20:13

@QueenCT of course you are "allowed" out for exercise. It isn't about being "allowed" is it? It's basically about making judgments based on your own circumstances and risk. Your decision that going out for excercise at 5am is safe was based on the same logic as OP's so why is yours sensible but her suggestion not?

QueenCT · 29/07/2020 20:17

@Riojasmoothy because I had hoped that people who were advised to quarantine or have covid symptoms might follow the advice
But then I had also hoped people would distance and wear masks and it's all a pipe dream
What I meant by allowed is I'm not flouting guidelines, shielding guidelines were changed to say going out for exercise was ok

Riojasmoothy · 29/07/2020 20:28

But OP is quarantining. She was only considering leaving home to go for a solitary run. That is very different from the people refusing to wear masks, gathering for parties or on the beach and in the pubs on the day they opened.

And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter.

This. A thousand times this.

If you don’t want to give up your daily run for a couple of weeks, don’t go on holiday during a fucking pandemic.

feelingfragile · 29/07/2020 21:10

@RichardMarxisinnocent

not if you were self isolating, you couldn't

You absolutely could go out for exercise if self isolating in at least the first few weeks of lockdown. You weren't allowed other for any other reason. The rules changed at some point to say you couldn't go out at all. There was a discussion about it on another thread a few weeks ago where screenshots of the previous guidance allowing exercise were posted.

I was self isolating from 13th March (I think), we were told not to leave the house at all.

It was touch and go as to whether I was allowed to be in the same room as the rest of my family. I was certainly not allowed to hug my kids for 14 days.

Hubstar · 29/07/2020 21:35

@BananaCake10

I think that’s fine, particularly if you aren’t showing symptoms etc. As a runner myself I would not be able to cope mentally without being able to go on a run or leaving the house for a fortnight. Mental health is just as important as your physical health.

If your challenged then can always say you’re testing your eye sight.....

Then let’s hope your need for a run goes above some peoples right to stay alive safely.

housemdwaswrong · 29/07/2020 21:57

Yabu. I've been inside for nearly 5 months, and just starting to go out as per govt's advice. I'm choosing to go out early morning and late at night while I adjust to being outdoors again.

But apparently you can't possibly stay inside for a fortnight? 2 weeks, after presumably a nice holiday in the sun? Life's tough huh? Let's hope the people I pass when out, running and comsequently breathing heavily aren't ignoring quarantine too. I'm no less at risk than I was in March, but as long as you enjoy your run and get to do what you want that's fine.

2 weeks? Ffs.

iVampire · 29/07/2020 22:39

I’m also a runner. I had the full shielding period off running, then injured myself on day 3 of being advised outdoor exercise was permissible, and that extended it by several weeks.

Sometimes, you just have to cope, you’d manage it if you were injured. Perhaps just think of it in those terms and switch to indoors/garden workouts instead?

^^pearl clutchers are living their best lives during this pandemic.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 29/07/2020 22:50

It’s not pearl clutching. It’s expecting / advising people to abide by the rules.

If people who have been told to quarantine say “oh but I’ll just got out for my run” it’s a fair assumption that people are going to continue trying to bend each and every rule that comes along.

WowOoo · 29/07/2020 22:52

If I see the runner that totally disregarded me as a pedestrian on a public, v narrow bridge again I might push you off it. Thanks for gobbing your spit at the end of the path too. Nice touch! Your life is way more important than mine after all, obvs.
This was a middle aged man at 2pm btw. I'm sure it wasn't you!

Starbuggy · 29/07/2020 23:37

YABU

The rules apply to you just as much as everyone else.

You chose to go abroad in the middle of a pandemic, knowing guidance could chance. Now you have to live with the consequences of your choice.

heartsonacake · 30/07/2020 00:08

@Darkdecent

I'm not going to go. I live in a village and if someone sees me they may report me. I wouldn't touch anything if I did go, I wouldn't go near anyone and in 10 years of running I've fallen a few times but always got home alright, I get the point though.

Yes, it was my choice to go on holiday so I guess I'll just have to accept the consequences and do some decorating, read and chill!
I was every busy all through lockdown and was lucky enough to be out and about a lot so I will take this time as a rest.

Can anyone tell me, is it 10 or 14 days for quarantine? I've googled but can't find any definite information, then again knowing Boris there probably isn't any!

“Your 14-day period of self-isolation starts from the day after you arrive.”

wildthingsinthenight · 30/07/2020 00:12

OP I understand why you think it would be ok but it really isn't sadly

wildthingsinthenight · 30/07/2020 00:13

Ah I didn't see your update. Good decision!

jassa090 · 30/07/2020 00:16

No worse than going to Barnard Castle in my opinion.

Darkdecent · 11/08/2020 10:08

Day 14 today. Am I allowed out now?!
