I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

@LittleMissBrainy

Ok, this might seem like a stupid question but even in the height of lockdown you could still get your daily exercise, you just had to follow the rules and not go within 2m of anyone. Why is quarantine any different?
Not if you were self-isolating you couldn't.
Lalaloveyou2020 · 29/07/2020 08:09

Oh my god just go.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/07/2020 08:09

@ZeldalovesLink

The running itself wouldn’t be a cause for concern for me, but what if you had an accident or fell and hurt yourself? I think it’s eventualities like that you need to guard against, unfortunately.
Good point.
pasturesgreen · 29/07/2020 08:09

YABVU. Quarantine measures are in place for a reason. And now it's summer, plenty of people are put and about at 5 in any case, it won't be just you.

fellrunner85 · 29/07/2020 08:09

Aw, OP. I know you shouldn't. But I also know not running for two weeks is so hard. If I were you I'd be tempted to go at 4am, somewhere very quiet, where you'll see nobody. Either that or spend two weeks getting into HIIT, but it's not the same!

LittleMissBrainy · 29/07/2020 08:10

Ah, thanks cross post with @OddestSock, that makes sense.

BIWI · 29/07/2020 08:11

FFS why on earth do you think that the guidance about quarantine wouldn't apply to you?

marvellousmaplesyrup · 29/07/2020 08:11

Why do some people think that the rules don't apply to them? You're been incredibly irresponsible if you break quarantine. Just work out at home FFS. Angry

HyacynthBucket · 29/07/2020 08:12

As usual some people on here deciding what the risks are (qualifications for doing so?), and not taking into account that some people out there will be a lot more vulnerable than others, even if it is not obvious. It seems the height of arrogance to say that there is no risk or a small risk to others, and impose that ill informed view on them - you just do not know.

Toastyapples · 29/07/2020 08:13

Hang on.... Several posts saying what if the OP has an accident and then someone has to help her.... Heaven forbid... What if she falls down her stairs at home? Are those in quarantine also expected to just lie in a heap at the bottom for 2 weeks praying for flood just so they can drink some water whilst they wait for quarantine to be over so they can call for help? Stop being so ridiculous!

heartsonacake · 29/07/2020 08:14

Of course YABU.

You were silly enough to go to Spain during a pandemic so now you have to face the consequences of that and quarantine for two weeks.

SquirtleSquad · 29/07/2020 08:14

For fucks sake you chose to go away during a global pandemic, just abide by the rules on returning and stay home. I know it's annoying but It's only 2 weeks. You can exercise at home.

Regulus · 29/07/2020 08:16

Because that was lockdown, this is quarrantine. In sensible country's people are quarrantined at state run facilities.
DahliaGardener · 29/07/2020 08:18

Please leave the streets clear for people who are so anxious that the only time they feel safe to venture out is 5 am.

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 29/07/2020 08:20

Christ what is it with people!!!

Here's some guidance for the good of the whole country as we don't want it coming back - OP (as well as many others, it wont be just you op) oh I have to do that, now lets think of how many ways I can bend these rules as they can't possibly include me as I really want to do xyz. Everyone!! help me wiggle out of this please and help me justify it!

I know our government hasn't handled it great but we as a country are not helping at all with behaving like this. I think people just dont like being told they cant do something even if the reasons are are so just theyre screaming at you.

I think the very fact that your on here asking for people to help you feel better for wanting to do this just reinforces the fact that you know you shouldnt do it. We all knew that the lifting of lock down could change quickly if needed, given the scrutiny the government is under its no suprise this could have happened. I think we all really need to get a grip here and follow the rules or everyone will end up locked down again because a few took the chance at an early morning run, had some unexpected contact with others and bang. It may seem OTT but you will not be the only one not wanting to do this and not the only one looking to bend the rules, risk is you and others collectively may cause a spike here again.
Sometimes we cant do what we want and its shit but deal with it, its 2 weeks op not 2 or three months.

Rhubardandcustard · 29/07/2020 08:22

YABU if you tripped fell and hit your head who would have to come in contact with you to help.

It’s two weeks not two months. Do some on line exercise classes instead and suck it up op.

ILoveJoeBrown · 29/07/2020 08:27

Hmm you go abroad for a 2 week (average) holiday during a pandemic. Then the government tells you to take 2 more weeks holiday. That makes 4 weeks holiday with my simple arithmetic?

Just unfortunate that for 2 of those weeks you might not get paid unless you can wfh.

Palavah · 29/07/2020 08:28

It's certainly frustrating that if you were self-isolating a couple of months ago because you or a household member had symptoms you were still allowed out for exercise or to get essentials if you couldn't get them delivered.

ILoveJoeBrown · 29/07/2020 08:28

and no you don't go for a run. I'm a runner myself but I'd run round the garden or do a Joe Wicks instead.

LavaLamp5566 · 29/07/2020 08:31

You've been told to Quarantine - QUARANTINE

What's so hard to understand about that?

Gogogadgetarms · 29/07/2020 08:31

And so it starts. I’m getting serious déjà vu to the thousands of threads about lockdown and the millions of reasons people came up with to ‘justify’ not following the guidance.

You’ve been told to quarantine. Stop wasting energy inventing justifiable scenarios whereby you don’t have to and just do it.

Chanel05 · 29/07/2020 08:32

You have all the time in the world to run after the quarantine period. You chose to go away, therefore you chose to take on any consequences. Quarantine means it is the law to stay at home, no exceptions, not well just do x, y and z early in the morning to bend the rules.

Plenty of people haven't stepped foot out their front doors since mid-March, you'll be fine.

Gogogadgetarms · 29/07/2020 08:33

@StuckInPollyannaMode

I live rurally and it was a quiet route - I still saw at least 10 people though - normally I’d be lucky to see 1! Lots of runners, dog walkers etc.
Probably all out early because they are supposed to be quarantined.
Annebronte · 29/07/2020 08:35

A run on a route you know well at such a quiet time of day would pose a very low risk. Exercising outdoors is important.

cologne4711 · 29/07/2020 08:36

You shouldn't leave the house. I doubt you'd meet with anyone and the risk is tiny, but it's the same argument that people made for the "driving to exercise" during the early weeks of lockdown - you could have an accident or break down and need help and if you go out for a run you could fall over, break an ankle and be stuck and then you call out someone else in your household to help, who should also be at home.

Up to you, nobody will know what you do. And if by "Spain" you mean one of the islands, the quarantine requirement is ludicrous anyway.
