To go for a run at 5 am?

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 07:38

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.
WIBU to go for an early morning run when noone will be about?

YABU, the quarantine rules are there for a reason, they don't apply to everyone else but not you because you fancy a run.

Can you not do some exercise at home?

fizzpopbang123 · 29/07/2020 08:36

The unreasonable point here is you thinking 5am is mega early and the streets will be deserted. For many people it's the normal time to exercise before work, or leave the house if they have a long commute. Lots of people start work before 9am, not to mention shift workers.

AgentProvocateur · 29/07/2020 08:38

Go out running, OP. And don’t bother with a mask when you’re out either. Obviously the rules don’t apply to you. Hmm

motherrunner · 29/07/2020 08:55

I run at 5am as have more energy in the morning. If you’re of the thinking that it’s deserted at the time you may be mistaken depending where you live. I pass dog walkers and runners at the time, it’s not as quiet as you may think.

SarahBellam · 29/07/2020 09:00

If you get caught just tell them you were going out for a run to test your eyesight.

Mintjulia · 29/07/2020 09:01

It’s fairly easy OP, can you remain quarantined while running?

If you are absolutely sure you can choose a route where you won’t meet anyone else, then go. If you can’t guarantee it, then don’t. Use your knowledge of where you live, and be honest with yourself.

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 09:09

I'm back from a small village outside Alicante where there were no cases though I know I still need to quarantine.

I do live in a very quiet area and often run at 5 anyway and barely see anyone. I'm now trying to get my hands on a treadmill as I darent risk going out!

OP posts:
Nicolastuffedone · 29/07/2020 09:23

I’m out walking around 5.30......me and about a dozen dog walkers! There’s always a runner or two as well. I choose that time because I thought it would be just me.....then the rest of the village had the same idea obviously

Sheknowsaboutme · 29/07/2020 09:43

Id go. I hardly see anyone round where i live (very rural).

Suchan1d10t · 29/07/2020 09:49

Nothing I can say that's not been said, but unless you are talking about running in your garden then YABU.
My mum has been shielding, and now she is allowed to go out for walks she picks quiet times early morning to minimise the risk of seeing too many people, as does a friend who has been shielding and also has huge issues with anxiety.

I get where you are coming from, I'm a runner too and go stir crazy inside for too long, but it is just 2 weeks. Please stay inside for the sake of others

Lockheart · 29/07/2020 09:50

@Darkdecent there may have been no cases in the village where you were, but where were all those people you sat for several hours with on the plane, or crossed paths with at the airports on either end? Can you say the same for them?

This is why the quarantine rules are necessary. Glad to see you're going to try and get a treadmill and stay indoors though!

Namechanged127865 · 29/07/2020 10:10

I live in a small country who has managed to eradicate covid a couple of months ago. This was because 99% of people 100% followed lockdown rules. Didnt try and find a work around to go do what they wanted. Yes our government handled it better than the uk but it was the people who made the rules work.

We are back to normal now, no social distancing, everywhere open as normal. Residents need to self isolate for 14 days if they "need" to leave the country. This means in one room of the house on your own or if that cant be done then a holiday let etc needs booked and paid for so they can isolate on their own.

I'm sorry to say I cant see the uk getting on top of covid unless people stop taking the piss. I know of not one person in my local community (about 20k people) who are willing to risk leaving the country and bringing covid back with them especially just for a holiday.

It's short term pain for long term gain. If you want to help stop the spread then please follow the guidance.

WanderingMilly · 29/07/2020 10:17

Well, I can see where you're coming from but really, quarantine means not leaving the house. So stay indoors. At least for the first 10 days anyway.

thatsforsure · 29/07/2020 10:19

POlka I quite fancy joining a lunch mob!

hippohector · 29/07/2020 10:27

Hang on.... Several posts saying what if the OP has an accident and then someone has to help her.... Heaven forbid... What if she falls down her stairs at home? Are those in quarantine also expected to just lie in a heap at the bottom for 2 weeks praying for flood just so they can drink some water whilst they wait for quarantine to be over so they can call for help?

It’s about the OP not putting herself or others at unnecessary risk by going out for a run.
If she fell down the stairs or had a genuine accident at home then of course she should receive the relevant help.

Derekhello · 29/07/2020 10:34

This makes me think of the people I see in shops with their masks pulled down, what makes them think they’re special to not have to keep it on? 🙄 twats

MorganKitten · 29/07/2020 11:15

I've just returned from Spain so have been told to quarantine.

You’ve answered it right there.. told to quarantine. It’s 10 days.

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/07/2020 11:31

Of course you would be unreasonable to go out. Your priorities are skewed I'm afraid . We all understand the frustration.

Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 11:32

Is it only 10 days now?

OP posts:
Darkdecent · 29/07/2020 11:32

Quarantine I mean. I thought it was 14 days?

OP posts:
Littleoakhorn · 29/07/2020 11:42

OP, seriously, I think you need to ask yourself “what would Dominic Cummings do?”

Hmm
mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 11:45

@FunnyInjury

Who will know 🤷‍♀️ if you dont see anyone then really what does it matter! Run, and enjoy it!
of course it matters, she could be dripping with sweat, she could fall over and bleed, she could bump into someone, she could have an accident and be taken to hospital, she could lean on a bench or a tree, she could be a witness in a police incident, she could be seen and reported

AND she could be phoned up tor visited to check she is still in her house.

mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 11:46

@Regulus

And this dear reader is why we are going to be fucked this winter.
exactly. If people don't take this seriously, we will be looking at tens of thousands more deaths, possibly the OP herself, and other posters here.
mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 11:50

@happystory

I really can't see what harm that would do if you don't stop anywhere or talk to anyone
unfortunately, if this thread is anything to go by, around a quarter of the populations "can't really see the harm" in breaking the rules.

If we are going to beat this, we ALL need to follow the rules. If we get a second spike, then it will be the fault of that quarter of the population

mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 11:51

exactly, there are lots of people up and about at that time, exercising, going to work or already working
