To not let our gardener use our toilet!

Me and my OH has a disagreement about this because of COVID, pre covid this wouldn’t have even been a discussion, he would have been welcome to use our toilet! wondering who is in the wrong!

YABU. Saying no to use our toilet

YANBU saying no to use our toilet

OP I'd go as far as to say its disgusting you didn't let him use your toilet. Very unkind is putting it mildly. You obviously have no issues with either your bladder or bowels

Lurchermom · 27/07/2020 21:26

My in-laws are gardeners. Even pre covid lots of customers wouldn't let them use the loo. My DMIL, at 56, would have to wee in a bucket in the back of her can. People are vile.

Let them use the loo, just clean it down every day after they leave. They're humans and they need to empty their bladders. The virus hasn't changed that.

Lurchermom · 27/07/2020 21:27

*van, not can

LST · 27/07/2020 21:33

@lurchermom that's terrible. I agree there are some vile people around

I know. I get so mad on her behalf. It obviously affects my FIL too, but I think it's worse for women (harder to have a sneaky wee!). For her last birthday he bought her a travel compost loo LOL.

eaglejulesk · 28/07/2020 04:56

Would you like to go to work and be told you can't use the toilet! YABVU.

JessCat75 · 28/07/2020 05:08

If you won't let him use your toilet, where do you expect him to go whilst he's working for you? YABU

lookatmememe · 28/07/2020 05:17

I let the gardener use the same loo as the butler.

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/07/2020 07:02

Ok, thank you, all comments taken on board and relayed back to OH as well.

Our Butler, cleaner and in house chef are yet to return as we aren’t having others inside our house at present.

Well done OP for taking the jibes in good spirits.

This thread has been hilarious - thanks for the laughs.

madcatladyforever · 28/07/2020 07:12

If he has good toilet manners and doesn't piss all over the floor then yes.
otherwise no.
Don't get too paranoid about things, just get some bleach wipes and go over the area when he's gone.

Saracen · 28/07/2020 07:46

Still don't understand the voting options but... if he works at your property you need to let him use the toilet. If you feel strongly that it is too risky to have anyone in the house, continue to do your own gardening.

HOkieCOkie · 28/07/2020 07:50

My mum keeps hand sanitizer, paper towels and Toilet cleaner in her loo. So cleaner/gardiner etc can use it safely.

Midsommar · 28/07/2020 07:53

Not letting your hard-working gardener use your toilet? Very cruel of you OP. Just disinfect it once he has left!

cautiouscovidity · 28/07/2020 08:07

Yes I would. It's not like there's an alternative really (unless you're right next door to a public loo or Tesco or something).
Pop a packet of Dettol wipes in there and ask them to wipe down afterwards (then give it an extra clean yourself when they've left and change the hand towels).

TheRealHousewife · 28/07/2020 08:24

The questions the @OverTheRainbow88 posted are different as they have different prefix = AIBU YANBU.

Not for us to say really. Only you knows how you feel about introducing a risk into your home. I personally would allow him in but would I sanitise the loo, door handles, taps after use.

Parker231 · 28/07/2020 08:27

Of course the gardeners can use the toilet. I make them drinks and lunch as well.

HerNameWasEliza · 28/07/2020 08:52

I guess if he is working for you, you have to provide the basic facilities like any employer? So if not toilet, you should not expect him to come to work at all and you will have to do your own garden.

BlusteryShowers · 28/07/2020 08:56

The choice is to have the gardener and let him use the toilet, or not have the gardener.

TimeWastingButFun · 28/07/2020 09:14

Do you have a downstairs loo? When we've got the gardener or other visitor there we don't use the DS loo ourselves while they're there - keep it available just for them then clean it afterwards. And we do make coffee for them, we just have separate mugs for visitors that go in the dishwasher super hot afterwards. Individually wrapped cakes. You can still be hospitable, you just have to be careful.

TimeWastingButFun · 28/07/2020 09:15

I also bought a pack of disposable hand towels for downstairs.

Clappingforjoy · 28/07/2020 10:03

8 years your gardener and you would even consider not letting him use your toilet.
Poor bugger

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/07/2020 10:36

Again, thanks all for Insightful comments, I’m not going to respond anymore, not because I am unhappy with the replies but I’ve defo got the gist of what everyone thinks and going forth he is Welcome to use our loo .

OP posts:
CatandtheFiddle · 28/07/2020 10:46

Ask him to close the lid before flushing, leave anti-bac wipes in the loo, and ask him to wipe down & open a window if there is one in your loo. Then don't go in there for 15-20 minutes.

EmbarrassedUser · 28/07/2020 10:47

No loo = No gardener. Surely you must feel like the right twat saying he can’t come in.
