To not let our gardener use our toilet!

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/07/2020 16:38

Me and my OH has a disagreement about this because of COVID, pre covid this wouldn’t have even been a discussion, he would have been welcome to use our toilet! wondering who is in the wrong!

YABU. Saying no to use our toilet

YANBU saying no to use our toilet

OP posts:
DullDullWeather · 27/07/2020 18:05

Oh ffs
Let him use your toilet or, you know, do the garden yourselves

Toomboom · 27/07/2020 18:06

You are being very unreasonable to not let him use your toilet. I have an adult in my house who is also immunosuppressed, and would still allow someone else to use the toilet.
It is very easy to clean up after them.

BeingLonely · 27/07/2020 18:08

You do realise life has to go back to normal at some point? Would you really tell him no since he’s been working for you for 8 years?!

Just clean as appropriate and let the poor guy pish!

Thurmanmurman · 27/07/2020 18:10

Fine as long as you don’t mind him taking a piss in your garden. Seriously, how ridiculous.

MaryShelley1818 · 27/07/2020 18:14

@Raimona

YABU. Saying no to use our toilet YANBU saying no to use our toilet I’m still puzzled. If I click the left button that represents “saying no to use our toilet”. And if I click the right button that also means “saying no to use our toilet”. Regardless of which button I click, they both mean “saying no to use our toilet”.
Seriously why do people not get it - it's perfect English and doesn't need changing. Op asks if she is being unreasonable to say no (YABU) or if she is NOT being unreasonable to say no (YANBU).

OP - you are clearly being very very unreasonable. You've treated that man dreadfully and probably made him extremely embarrassed. I'd never humiliate another person like that and would have let anyone use a toilet if needed. Hopefully you didn't cause the man to have an accident.

PilatesPeach · 27/07/2020 18:16

So mean if you refuse - I feel so sorry for people who work away from offices or home all day where they may have real difficulty accessing loos - not all public loos are open and some that are may be in shopping centres requiring the poor bloke to park, pay and trudge to the loo.
Just put on rubber gloves and clean up afterwards. If everyone says no, where is the poor guy meant to go? Illegal to pee & poo even behind a hedge. Feel very strongly about this. My dentist is refusing to let patients use the loo so if you have a long drive there and a long treatment or perhaps are combining dental work and hygienist, you either pee your pants or don't go.

PantTwizzler · 27/07/2020 18:16

I voted YABU even though both your options are the same.

If the gardener is at your house for an extended period of time and is banned from using the loo, what is he supposed to do? If you are that worried about it, perhaps you shouldn't have him working for you yet.

LST · 27/07/2020 18:19

I'm so angry on the poor guys behalf. If I need to go I really need to go so you would have had to cope with me using a corner of your garden or me knocking on your neighbour's house and telling them how unreasonable their neighbours are.

chipshopElvis · 27/07/2020 18:22

Our builders are using ours because the alternative is hiring a portaloo for them. It doesn't seem reasonable to employ people and not provide a loo.

Palavah · 27/07/2020 18:23

it's perfect English and doesn't need changing.

  • it does if it's not clear enough for the audience to understand, which evidently it is not.

It's ambiguous because the original post says that OP and her husband have disagreed but not which view is hers.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 27/07/2020 18:24

Well I'm totally going against the grain but if you've been extra careful in lockdown and haven't had anyone else in the house then I don't think yabu to say no.

It's 1.5hrs! Surely he can mow the lawn and do a bit of weeding without needing to use your loo.

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/07/2020 18:25

Well yes we hired a portaloo when we had builders working on our house for 4 months, but they were here 8-5 Mon-Fri.

@Somanysocks

I'm sorry, is the virus passed through urine then?
The viral load in faeces is huge. Much higher than in coughing.
UmmH · 27/07/2020 18:26

@Raimona think of it like this:

YABU for saying no to using our toilet
YANBU for saying no to use our toilet

GetOffYourHighHorse · 27/07/2020 18:27

'voted YABU even though both your options are the same.'

Why do people keep saying thia? She's asking is she reasonable or unreasonable to say her gardener can't use her toilet. Reasonable!

xolotltezcatlopoca · 27/07/2020 18:28

No one has been in your house for a reason. Now if you think getting gardener to do the gardening for you is essential, so is his needs to use the toilet. Unless you don't mind him doing it behind the bush in your garden.

UmmH · 27/07/2020 18:29

Uh, that wasn't as clear as I meant it to be.

"You are being unreasonable for saying no to him using the toilet."

"You are not being unreasonable for saying no to him using the toilet."

MorganKitten · 27/07/2020 18:30

So you’d rather him use your garden as a toilet?

GetOffYourHighHorse · 27/07/2020 18:30

'I'm sorry, is the virus passed through urine then?'

People touch things! Bannisters, handles, taps.

You could let him use it then just dash round after him anti bac'ing Grin

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/07/2020 18:31

Both the options are not the same.

  1. you are being unreasonable
  2. you are not being unreasonable.
RiftGibbon · 27/07/2020 18:32

If he had to come in to use the loo, then it could have been facilitated like this:
You 'prep' the loo first by having a washable cloth and disinfectant at hand (or antibacterial wipes) take away hand towels and put in disposable paper (kitchen roll) first.
Gardener comes in with mask on and uses loo. Wipes over seat and handle with neat disinfectant on a cloth/wipes. Washes hands with hot soapy water and then uses kitchen roll to dry hands which goes straight in bin.
Gardener goes back outside.
You wipe over door handles again/toilet flush handle.

RiftGibbon · 27/07/2020 18:32

*for seat/handle etc. above include "and anything else of yours he touches, including taps, light switches, etc."

Sertchgi123 · 27/07/2020 18:34

@countrygirl99

If you can't provide proper facilities do the gardening yourself.
This ^
MrsR87 · 27/07/2020 18:38

YABU

If he needs to use it, just wipe the surfaces down when he’s done. If you’re thinking of towel sharing etc then buy a roll of disposable paper towel that he can use to dry his hands and throw in the bin. Simple.

LightgreenBanana · 27/07/2020 18:39

have you watched The Help on DVD? Or read the book.
