Do you have PJ days

Sometimes at weekends and days off we don't get dressed - often when I'm cleaning the house and the kids just having movie days. I seem to be the only one of my friends to do this. They all say they would at least get dressed in case someone came round. My weekdays are frantic and due to my job I'm always properly dressed and made up. AIBU to stay in PJs?

I have clothes days. If I'm at home doing nothing, I'm never dressed. To be fair, I don't do traditional pajams, but I live in sweaters, yoga pants, and track pants.

IdblowJonSnow · 23/07/2020 01:13

No, its not for me, although I often have very long lie ins and lazy mornings. But then am raring to go or feel like I've wasted the day.
But if you enjoy it, why not?!

hypernova · 23/07/2020 01:23

Yes. Before lockdown, Sundays were usually our PJ day unless we had plans obviously. Now PJs and joggers are just about the only things I can squeeze into. I'm not sure why some people think it means you sit about in your own grime and greasy hair. Wearing PJs doesn't mean you don't shower.

DressingGownofDoom · 23/07/2020 01:24

I love the thought of it, but I feel much happier when I get washed and dressed, even if it feels like a total pain at the time. If I didn't have DS i don't know if I would ever get dressed or leave the house though Blush

MulticolourMophead · 23/07/2020 01:43

I've had PJ days. Not very often, but I schedule them in, make sure I have plenty of food in, dinner planned, etc.

And just because it's a PJ day, it doesn't mean I'd be sitting around with dirty clothing on, or not showering. Strictly speaking, I don't wear actual PJs, I wear leggings and a tshirt out of bed.

StarlightLady · 23/07/2020 06:13

I don’t have PJs, let alone PJ days, but of course you can do what you want.

squeekums · 23/07/2020 06:18

yep, often
i figure if we home, no plans, why not?

speakout · 23/07/2020 06:29

A " no plans" day rarely turns out like that for us.
We may start off like that, but kids will often make plans once the day starts, need a lift to X, or to the shop because they need a birthday card, or I suddenly run out of printer ink, or my mother just remembers she forgot to pick up a prescription, or the weather is unexpectedly good and we decide to have a BBQ but have to get charcoal, or the neighbour comes to the door and wants me to come out to discuss fence posts.

It is a very rare day when we never go out, and I would hate to have to then start to get ready half way though the day.

Much simpler to shower, dress - comfy casual clothes, then if I need to pop out I only need shoes and car keys.

I like to be prepared.

Poetryinaction · 23/07/2020 06:34

No I've never had one. It would feel like a waste. How do you have a movie day? How many movies do they watch?

TacCat49 · 23/07/2020 06:34

My friends liked the covid lockdown because no one was visiting so they could stay in their PJs for the day.
When i was working, if you had a day in your PJs it was called a mental health day. Enjoy.

ScrapThatThen · 23/07/2020 06:36

Actually I haven't for ages but I would really love to do a duvets in front of the TV day with teens

KatherineParr4 · 23/07/2020 06:42

No, I’ve never done this unless I’m ill. I would find it depressing not relaxing.Id feel unmotivated and miserable. Like I had no intention of doing anything or going anywhere.

Same here.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/07/2020 13:19

Some days I don't need or want to be motivated. Relaxation is important.

AcrobaticCardigan · 23/07/2020 13:27

No, it’s vile to stay in last nights sweaty pjs all day! Have a shower & put comfy clothes on.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/07/2020 13:48

Or have a shower and put some clean pjs on.

SantaClaritaDiet · 23/07/2020 13:50

I honestly don't get that. If you are getting changed anyway, what's wrong with clothes? You are then ready for anything in case someone pops in or you suddenly decide to go out. What clothes do people buy that they are actually uncomfortable?
Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/07/2020 13:52

Never. Only if I'm really unwell. I can't stand people lazing around the house all day!

Bluewavescrashing · 23/07/2020 13:52

I have lots of comfy clothes but sometimes if I've got no plans on a Sunday I shower and put clean pjs on. It feels indulgent and relaxing. Mine aren't skimpy so I could answer the door in them. We don't tend to have uninvited guests anyway.

thecatsthecats · 23/07/2020 13:59

PJs for the first couple of hours of work.

Now upgraded to jeans, a t shirt and a Christmas jumper.

That's my confusion too- why put on PJs again?
I can only assume people live in very uncomfortable clothes.

Most of my day clothes/lounging round the house clothes are very comfortable but also don't look out of place in a supermarket if I have to pop out somewhere.

DeeTractor · 23/07/2020 14:20

"I honestly don't get that. If you are getting changed anyway, what's wrong with clothes? You are then ready for anything in case someone pops in or you suddenly decide to go out. What clothes do people buy that they are actually uncomfortable?"

Why are people on MN so horrified by the prospect that someone might see them in their pyjamas in their own home? And if I suddenly have to go out it takes less than 5 minutes to change into something else so not a great hardship.

speakout · 23/07/2020 14:56

I don't think anyone is "horrified", it's just a pain to have to change half way through the day.

Can I ask what advantages pyjamas have over comfortable day clothes?

I don't find pyjamas very warm either, so do you wear a robe or dressing gown on top?
Pyjamas/dressing gowns often have very wide sleeves- cooking or washing up in the sink will mean sleeves dripping while working in the kitchen.
Robes are cumbersome too, ofetn with a single tie belt, making even going for a pee tricky.
Pyjamas may be warm enough in the summer, but what about winter? Do you over heat your house so you are warm enough to be able to wear bed clothes around the house?
In winter I usually wear 3-4 layers in the house. How does that work wit pjs?

SecretSquirreI · 23/07/2020 14:57

No. I can't stand it.

I need to get up, clean and put underwear on.

But then if I'm not going out I'll wear something comfy that may as well be PJs as wouldn't be seen dead out in my old comfy stuff.

But can't stay in what I've slept in.

Bluewavescrashing · 23/07/2020 15:05

My clothes aren't uncomfortable at all. Maybe just accept that some people like to wear pjs occasionally. It's not exactly mind-blowing.
