Do you have PJ days

Sometimes at weekends and days off we don't get dressed - often when I'm cleaning the house and the kids just having movie days. I seem to be the only one of my friends to do this. They all say they would at least get dressed in case someone came round. My weekdays are frantic and due to my job I'm always properly dressed and made up. AIBU to stay in PJs?

No, I associate it with a period of time when my mental health was very bad. I just feel horrendous, I need to get dressed into something I would feel comfortable doing to the shop in.

Routine is very important to me though as I have ASD so this probably contributes.

northprincess · 22/07/2020 16:15

The mumsnet world is clearly divided! I was only curious really but some of these posts make me smile! I'm fortunate not to have a problem with my mental health but god if I did some of these posts wouldn't help!

To my fellow slobby, dirty, lazy pj friends hope you're enjoying relaxing!

I’ve had a few this week but I have pleurisy so I think that’s fair.

Normally I don’t though as I don’t feel right if I’m not washed and dressed. DS has had many during lock down though

AryaStarkWolf · 22/07/2020 16:27

PJ does not always equal No shower, btw

Winterwoollies · 22/07/2020 16:41

@LST I'm normally the first to call out mean judgemental posters but even I have to say no one is being particularly vile or judgemental here!

Everyone who says they wouldn't is talking about it in relation to themselves saying 'I wouldn't feel motivated...' or 'I like to be up and showered...'. Them not doing it is not them being judgey about those that do. Some literally say they're not being judgemental...

The 'vilest' comment was @okiedokieme and even they say that illness means it's different:

'No because we aren't slobs. Its far better for mental health to get dressed, it's why long stay hospital patients are encouraged to get dressed. If you are really sick that's different'

Ginfordinner · 22/07/2020 18:11

I once read somewhere that the prevalence of comfy leggings and jogging bottoms is one of the reasons we have such an obesity problem - because they are stretchy and comfortable.

This is one of the reasons I still wear jeans, even when slobbing about at home. because if they get too tight I take action to make sure they don't get any tighter (I must admit they are on the tight side just now though)

chunkyrun · 22/07/2020 18:12

Not pjs but I have I'm not going out chill clothes for such day's

Ginfordinner · 22/07/2020 18:20

Same here chunkyrun

I don't actually have any pyjamas. I'm too hot in bed with them on, and the legs are always too short and flap around half way up my calves.

LadyPrigsbottom · 22/07/2020 19:15
@MrsPrigsBottom That's is precisely why I don't sleep naked and my "slippers" are Velcro Mary Jane trainers. In a night-time emergency I'm functionally dressed, on the move and doing something useful within 4 seconds of becoming conscious.

The house is NOT burning down in my watch while I open drawers.

The chucking kids out of the window thing is an EXCELLENT tip Smile
Yes, that tip stayed with me and I didn't even have any dcs at the time! He said that parents instinctively want to catch their kids, but actually, throwing them out is safer.

Sandiepatterson · 22/07/2020 19:19

Never in my life (excluding being very ill) and I wouldn't consider it. Same with the children, they are not allowed downstairs until dressed. I'd feel way too guilty and slovenly Confused

StripeyDeckchair · 22/07/2020 19:41

No, pyjamas are for sleeping in. They go on before you get into bed, they come off & you shower & dress in the morning.

Children & partner all feel the same way.
We all have lazy at home clothes - comfy favourites that are past their best that are only worn at home.
Pyjamas are too cold to wear around the house for long anyway.

HoldMyLobster · 22/07/2020 20:15

I get up, brush teeth, then start work, usually in PJs.

After 6-8 hours of work I get dressed and take the dog out.

It's worked pretty well for me for about 5 years now.

HoldMyLobster · 22/07/2020 20:17

In winter I add a soft wool sweater or two and Uggs, and put a fleece blanket over my lap.

TheSoapyFrog · 22/07/2020 20:17

We don't. I feel manky if I don't get dressed.

Lifeisabeach09 · 22/07/2020 21:59

Hell, yes. I live in my pjs when not at work, grocery shopping or doing school run.

Snowybean · 22/07/2020 22:11

Never. T-Shirt and/or leggings go on immediately before getting into bed and come off as soon as I get up. The idea of it is grubby and lazy to me, but each to their own. Just don't wear pajamas around me, I will judge you :)

Porcupineinwaiting · 22/07/2020 22:16

YANBU but it's not something I would do, too many associations w being ill. Also it's a rare day when I dont at least grub around in the back garden.

FrustratedMess · 22/07/2020 22:18

Wash in morning and put clean pjs on

EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Since March 14th....

But pjs consist of a tshirt and plain blue or black trousers, So u wouldnt actually know i was in pjs

Lyricallie · 22/07/2020 22:21

Yup definitely but I have no kids or dogs. We have definitely had Saturdays where we've had a long lie in. Foraged for food and watched movies/played board games until we realise we missed the day. Then we close the curtains.

FrustratedMess · 22/07/2020 22:24

Hell, i don't care.

I'm shielding so 100% certain noone was coming

And even before lockdown, I wouldn't get dressed unless i was going out, if someone come round, i would just put a bra on, because I'm clean, hair brushed and teeth clean so just a bra and I'm sorted :)

Judge away, I dont really care Grin

OP.... Mumsnet always disagree with the original poster, its the law, don't you know :)

SuePerb · 22/07/2020 22:30

no I don't. I don't own any pjs, but I need to shower each day or I just feel really dirty (need to wash my hair every day).

I sometimes put loungewear on but feel slobby and unmotivated in that too.

I really don't judge anyone else though if they want to.

speakout · 22/07/2020 22:33

No never.

I am up showered and dressed early every day. Comfy clothes but ones that I can wear for a trip to the shops.

PhoneLock · 22/07/2020 22:37

And even before lockdown, I wouldn't get dressed unless i was going out, if someone come round, i would just put a bra on, because I'm clean, hair brushed and teeth clean so just a bra and I'm sorted

You have some bottle. I'd be the talk of the village if entertained visitors wearing just a bra.

Ginfordinner · 22/07/2020 22:38

Those who WFH in pyjamas - don't you have any Teams meetings?
I talk to my workmates on Teams every day, and everyone is dressed properly (on the top half anyway).

BlueJava · 22/07/2020 22:44

I have a PJ day sometimes but get up, shower and clean PJs on first!
