I’m not a Dr but looking at the speech Kanye West gave last night, he is clearly unwell. Shouldn’t somebody be looking after him, checking his medication, keeping him away from events etc until he is better??

OP posts:

Yes I thought it was great, having grown up with a close family member who has been sectioned multiple times and in between refused medication (until finally getting a court order for a monthly injection); it's really hurtful when people say that she should be saving him etc, it's really hard and not always possible.

ImNotBusyImLazy · 22/07/2020 19:14

I can't muster much sympathy. When he is on his meds, he is a despicable human. From what I've seen over his career, he alway has been.

Lostinengland · 22/07/2020 20:33

I have a real soft spot for kkw. Not to say she’s a perfect person in any way, but she is constantly surprising. I thought her statement was extremely dignified and compassionate.

Doggybiccys · 22/07/2020 20:36

@Tellmetruth4

As long as he’s making money for other people they will allow him to be off his meds. I believe he was stable when his mother was alive and after she died a few year ago his mental health went down the toilet. Clearly she was the only person in his life who cared more about his mental health than how much money he brings in.

He’s a cash cow surrounded by enablers who don’t have his best interests at heart just like Amy Winehouse who had clear mental health issues but people around her kept pushing her on stage.

This. A bit like Amy winehouse.

Lol @ kk being a nice person. She has constantly belittled, smeared and put down other people - and women - especially those her husband has degraded, because he is a misogynist, nasty prick not because he has a mental illness - because of his ‘genius’ but because she always has to be at the centre of attention and is a manipulative piece of work. She’d still rather claim his genius and blame his pressure as being black and having lost his mum than condemn the things he has said about her and her family... always a saving face exercise. She’s always been the same.
He is a massive twat. He needs help, and I have sympathy for his illness and them trying to deal with it, but for eg the way they treated Taylor Swift, Amber Rose, and his disgusting video with the waxworks plus his slavery and black comments and Trump support.. all ending with the promo of his new album.
Mental illness doesn’t give you a pass.
Problem is, she may be all face and front but he is clearly a manipulative piece of work. He made her change all her clothes, he tells her what to wear every day, he has to approve her red carpet outfits, he ‘made her realise’ she needed to cut off friends, he redesigned every aspect of their houses to his ‘aesthetic’ and ‘reminds’ her of what she should be doing and when. He can have a manic episode and be suffering but still manages to get his albums out and promo his (now awful) music.
The pair of them are a shitshow, it has to be said.

Pollypocket89 · 22/07/2020 20:54

Ill never understand strangers having such vitriol for other strangers, famous or not, it's really really bizarre*

*except Hitler et al

shartsi · 22/07/2020 20:55

Its just publicity, he has an album out on Friday. Hoping that is all it is.

ballsdeep · 22/07/2020 21:00

Awful for him if he has uncontrolled bipolar.

We'll see this play out on the next series of KUWTK .

Couldn't agree more.

PenelopePitstop49 · 22/07/2020 21:30

I can't help but feel that they all deserve each other. And are best left to get on with it.

It's the kids I feel for in this situation.

AlphaDalpha · 22/07/2020 22:10

Helping someone in the midst of a manic episode is a lot harder than you think.

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2020 22:28

Well nobody helped Brandon Truaxe (creator of The Ordinary) and the Kardashians haven't always been great at helping each other I the past. Maybe it's hard to see what's so close to home.

See I get grief a lot that I actually quite admire her. She is the ultimate case of turning something negative into a positive, and actually, from a feminist position, a man tried to make money off a tape of her high and whilst shagging. The fact she said, hey, where's my cut, meant any embarrassment she could have felt was hidden behind this exterior of seeing the video was making some serious money for someone else and knowing her worth in that and wanting her cut. When you've had other women have tapes leaked they kind of inflame it by reacting the opposite way. It took away the naughtiness of it at one angle because she was projecting a sense of being fine with it. The fact that from that she and her family are now worth a considerable amount of money, she has been on the cover of Vogue, she has businesses that are hugely successful. She's a global brand. She's now using that position and intelligence that I don't think many credit her with to bring about reform in the US prison system, she has lobbied to get people pardoned and charges overturned. You could suggest he needs her a damn sight more than she needs him now. As for his comments on "white supremacy", she's bloody half Armenian! I have a great deal of respect for her as someone who had private photos shoved online many years ago by an angry ex.

That's a really bizarrely strong reaction to someone you don't actually know. As pp pointed out, like her or not, she's made the best of the cards she was dealt

KaptainKaveman · 23/07/2020 19:49

I agree with cacacois. She's an abysmal role model. Her biggest ambition was to " break the internet" with a close up photo of her arse smothered in oil. Imagine if that was your own child's greatest aspiration? It's tragic as well as demeaning. She's the embodiment of vacuous plastic trashy celebrity . IMO.

TinyButton · 23/07/2020 20:02

OP, him being ill is not a new thing, you know. He's been in the nuthouse a couple of times.

I doubt he needs some goody-goody on bloody Mumsnet to step in for him.

Nice.
And we wonder why people are reluctant to seek help for MH problems....

dudsville · 23/07/2020 20:22

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Agreed. If he was in this country he would have been involuntarily hospitalised by now.

I believe in America if he was unknown or poor he would have been hospitalised also. It seems his fame and money are insulating him from the appropriate response

He wouldn't. It takes a lot to be sectioned.
KaptainKaveman · 23/07/2020 20:28

Wow, the " nuthouse"? Really? You sound like some vile owner of a travelling freak show circa 1850.

felineflutter · 23/07/2020 20:32

^^ I know. Wtaf??

AcrossthePond55 · 23/07/2020 22:58

"In the nuthouse".

Do you have any idea how disgusting that term is? And how hurtful to people who have, or have family members who have, MH conditions.

Educate yourself.

I imagine Kim is worried about what Kanye will publicly say on Twitter about her and her family if she (in his eyes) antagonises him.
