I’m not a Dr but looking at the speech Kanye West gave last night, he is clearly unwell. Shouldn’t somebody be looking after him, checking his medication, keeping him away from events etc until he is better??

I feel so sad watching someone with the world at their feet in terms of money and talent

Talent? What talent?

Puddlelane123 · 20/07/2020 16:39

@Ravenclawgirl his music may not be to your taste but I think there is a definite talent there, even just a talent for marketing.

MotherMorph · 20/07/2020 16:43

I actually think there are several uk celebrities who need help and time away from the spotlight because of MH issues (albeit not played out on quite such a huge scale)
I reckon there are a lot of people trying to make money out it encouraging people like Daniella Westbrook, Kerry Katona, Katie Price, Gazza to make their 20th "comeback" when actually they would probably benefit more from counselling, and help for mental health issues away from the media.

Couchbettato · 20/07/2020 16:49

I actually think it's really awful that he's found himself in a position of fame, and now suffers bouts of grandeur delusions because it's not something he can ever come back from. He always will have a delusion of grandeur that has been thrusted on him by his adoring fans, and now the media.

I don't like his music but he's easily influenced. Any one who knows any one who suffers from bipolar knows how difficult it is to be so high and so low frequently.

And to those who think Kim K is in on it, what?

Of course she wants to support her husband but you only need to read the press about them having difficult times, about her not agreeing with his pro-life stance, about how they were on the brink of divorce but the public eye is too much up their asses to let them come to a decision amicably.

I'm not a fan of either Kim or Kanye but they're just people. I can't imagine being in the difficult position that either of them are in.

Some of you guys need to learn some empathy.

TibetanTerrier · 20/07/2020 16:49

@Poptart4

Its horrible reading all of the online comments of people laughing at him and making fun of him. Hes clearly very unwell.
If it's so horrible then don't read them. I wouldn't know Mr or Mrs West if I fell over them, and I intend to keep it that way as I avoid the ghastly "sleb culture" like the plague.

worship it."

@NeverTalksToStrangers

He's definitely unwell. I think his marriage will definitely suffer for this, there's been talk of them being on the rocks for a while.

Can't say I have an awful lot of sympathy for him. The whole family are vile. He and Kim tried to ruin Taylor Swifts career 4 years ago (after claiming he made her famous) by making her out to be a liar (which she was proven not to be). He's a misogynistic, egomaniac when he's ON his meds.

Yes, I agree with this. He might be unwell but he has always been vile IMO. He is so entitled and deluded about his own supposed greatness it's risible.
Ravenclawgirl · 20/07/2020 17:03

@Puddlelane123

I take it back there is definitely talent there and as you say it is at least a talent for marketing. Having been forced to listen to him for an entire car journey while taking my daughter and her friends to the Reading Festival a few years ago, I have to report that I heard no evidence of musical talent or even entertaining lyrics.

vanillandhoney · 20/07/2020 17:12

Trump's not unwell, he's unpleasant.

He's both. You can be unwell and unpleasant at the same time. There are lots of articles out there about the fact that he very likely has dementia and unfortunately, he's being wheeled out in public and is allowed to keep his job anyway.

Tragic, when you think about it.

metro.co.uk/2020/07/14/donald-trump-blames-barack-obama-stopping-testing-bizarre-coronavirus-rant-12988462/

Latest article on Google, but just search "Donald Trump Dementia" and there's loads out there about it. My dad specialises in geriatrics and I remember him saying "The man has dementia - he's not well" before he even got elected. He's just gotten worse and worse since then.

Smallsteps88 · 20/07/2020 17:19

What illness do people think Trump has? Dementia?

Yes.

TheGuruishere · 20/07/2020 17:21

@Livingthecovidaloca

The Tin hat in me thinks it’s an underhand Trump/Kushner strategy to split the black vote... whisper in KW’s ear enough times that he can do this, and he thinks it’s a good idea. They need to take just enough votes away from Biden.
That's exactly my perspective...

He's not mentally I'll, I don't see any mania there, in that speech whatsoever..

Symptoms
Flight of ideas, no.
Pressured speech, no.
Doesn't appear tired...
Grandosity, no (he's rich and well made man, married to a rich women also).
Inflated self-esteem no, his esteem is appropriate to his status.

I don't agree that hes mentally I'll or sectionable, under our mental health act currently, he is not a risk to him or others, he does not appear to have a mental disorder which is significantly deteriorating currently.

If he has bipolar, well that's not the current issue, bipolar is a smoke screen. The media are using to throw people off. He adds at the end, he will give new mothers free money. Stratergy to impact votes, hes been in bed with Trump, for many years.

Compared to Trump, who made various off the cuff statements about immigration etc last election, which people dont see as PC. However Trump is not mad either, he pandered to the extremist views, to increase his votes. Nore is he racist.

As someone who has had several manic episodes it is making me feel so terribly sad for him. The Guardias reporting was fucking terrible. The treatment of an obviously ill person with ridicule is sickening and demonstrates the worst in human nature. Same as if you laughed if someone was tipped out of a wheelchair.

doadeer · 20/07/2020 17:24

I think the world him and KK live in is just so destructive and toxic that any prior MH problems will be magnified tenfold. He really needs help. It's such a sad reflection that they have such a gigantic platform

Yester · 20/07/2020 17:28

He is 100% manic. Just his line of thought and previous episodes demonstrate his is bipolar. This looks like mid stage mania. 6 months in a mental institution has given me a lovely insight to it all. You can be coherent and holdthings together at this point.it will unravel sadly further.

MorrisZapp · 20/07/2020 17:45

I've always assumed he's a sexist prick.

Yester · 20/07/2020 17:52

You can definitely be bipolar and a sexist prick!

Carouselfish · 20/07/2020 17:53

Have a relative with bipolar, depression, potential dementia. She's also a celebrity. Her doctors prescribe her so much medication most of which either makes her worse or almost blank and not present and when she gets hospitalised staff do her 'favours' which means she never really gets the treatment she needs. She is very manipulative and sometimes dangerous to herself and others around her. The doctors are really money and status driven sadly - they wont tell her no.

TheGuruishere · 20/07/2020 17:57

By saying hes 100% manic and reflecting on your own experiences, doesn't evidence mania.

Not being disrespectful to you, but if you search ICD 10 or DSM, he doesn't have the symptoms.

SuperStay7 · 20/07/2020 19:07

I agree with @Yester

If you’ve lived with someone with type 1 bipolar disorder, Kanye presents exactly like someone riding a huge wave of mania, right before it starts to unravel.

Maybe he isn’t - I’m not a psychiatrist - but all the signs are there. Grandiosity, feeling he is invincible, flight of ideas, obviously a head full of racing thoughts. Its an intoxicating stare to be in, and must be even more so when you’re rich and famous and people are taking you seriously.

It has unravelled for him before, though. And sadly, it will again.

SuperStay7 · 20/07/2020 19:08

state to be in

Staplemaple · 20/07/2020 19:08

Piers Morgan wrote an article about how it was kims fault. Is anything not a woman's fault?

callmeadoctor · 20/07/2020 19:09

On the threads about Prince Harry and Meghan, there is no way Mumsnet allow Harrys mental state to be discussed. Thats why Im curious that they have allowed this thread to stand....................

Mumoblue · 20/07/2020 19:13

I didn't take it seriously until I saw the clip on the news, but yeah he doesn't look at all well. I hope he gets some help.

SunbathingDragon · 20/07/2020 19:15

I believe he also had a head injury a while back and I wonder if that has caused permanent damage.

Yes, he did have a head injury and his behaviour appears to have notably changed since then but is that because he is now more in the public eye so his behaviour has made it more apparent?

I feel overwhelmingly sad for North.
