I’m not a Dr but looking at the speech Kanye West gave last night, he is clearly unwell. Shouldn’t somebody be looking after him, checking his medication, keeping him away from events etc until he is better??

I don't think Trump is mentally ill, I think he's on a lot of drugs. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a cokehead.

Kanye, however, is definitely ill and needs help, not enabling.

annabel85 · 20/07/2020 13:43

I think you should be able to pass an extensive psychological test before running for president.

The problem is celebrities seem to be able to get a pass to do what they want and the end result is a total narcissist in the white house.

Tlollj · 20/07/2020 13:44

I did know Kanye West was I’ll I thought he was just a twat.
I don’t expect anyone will help him all the time he’s making someone somewhere money.

Pinkyyy · 20/07/2020 13:45

I don't agree.

If I had nearly killed my daughter, or my parents had nearly killed me, I'd be equally emotional.

He has bipolar disorder
Rwoolley · 20/07/2020 13:48

How do you know they're not?

You can't force a grown man to take their medication regularly or attend therapy.

bibliomania · 20/07/2020 13:49

I believe he also had a head injury a while back and I wonder if that has caused permanent damage.

TheGuruishere · 20/07/2020 13:49

At current he looks totally fine, I don't fell his mentally unwell or currently in a manic phase.

Just watched a video on the guardian, which cites inchoerable babble or words to that affect. Which I find, laughable of the guardian who are supposedly pro black rights (I'm mixed myself). If the right wing media said that, BLM and the rest would be pulling out the cards.

Conservatives, are generally against abortion, hes crys for his own life and his daughters. He then, states he would offer every new mother 1 million pounds, is he attempting to bait particular voters away from the democratics 🤔. I wonder what's to come.

CasuallyFeminine · 20/07/2020 13:49

@Pinkyyy
I agree, I would be emotional too. But in private, not in front of the world.

I don't think his intention was to get so upset in front of the world, but I found it quite refreshing to see someone in politics actually showing some real emotions.

My understanding is that it is called a "5350 hold" but unlike our Section 2 which is a 28 day assessment a 5350 is just 72 hours. The system is VERY different due to it not being an NHS style system.

Crinkle77 · 20/07/2020 13:53

No I just think he's a deluded egotist.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 20/07/2020 13:53

He's definitely unwell. I think his marriage will definitely suffer for this, there's been talk of them being on the rocks for a while.

Can't say I have an awful lot of sympathy for him. The whole family are vile. He and Kim tried to ruin Taylor Swifts career 4 years ago (after claiming he made her famous) by making her out to be a liar (which she was proven not to be). He's a misogynistic, egomaniac when he's ON his meds.

LadyofTheManners · 20/07/2020 13:54

It was uncomfortable wasn't it and the media were kind of poking fun at him. To me, I felt like I was a voyeur on someone's mental breakdown.
And yes to the pp who said about poor North seeing that when she is older. It also felt like he was trying to paint Kim in a bad light, then going on about divorce him. I think she probably will after this.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 20/07/2020 13:55

I don't blame him at all for not taking his medication, but it's clear he's hypo/manic and he's not particularly capable of moderating his mood by other means.

I'm also not sure why people think he should be institutionalised. If he's not posing a risk to his own wellbeing, or that of others, then I'm not sure on what grounds you could claim he should be deprived of his liberty. 'Behaving a bit oddball' is nowhere near sufficient for detaining someone against their will, but it's obviously a concern that he's being manipulated while he's not in a fit state. That definitely comes under risk to himself, but I'm not sure how you go about proving that without an intervention and possibly legal action by someone close to him. It's not as simple as a doctor just stepping in.

I also think he'll be keen to avoid what has happened to other US celebrities who have been similarly diagnosed. The careers of so many of them completely die once they acknowledge and treat their illnesses, although that tends to be Hollywood actors rather than musical acts.

MashedSpud · 20/07/2020 13:55

I suspect Kim is pushing to be First Lady. I doubt she gives a stuff about his mental health or anyone as long as she’s getting what she wants.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 20/07/2020 13:57

The occasion when he interrupted Taylor to say she didn't deserve her award is PAINFUL viewing. The crowd boo massively, and she just stands there alone no one intervenes. In her documentary she said she thought they were booing her not him. She was 17 at the time, and he has pursued a vendetta against her since.

Staplemaple · 20/07/2020 13:57

But he's done sort of the same, he knew his dad wanted his mum to abort him, and he's said he initially felt the same about his daughter, in front of the whole world. So disrespectful toward Kim as well, he does need help. I'm not sure what the law is in America regarding sectioning, but no one can force him if he doesn't want to unless he meets that criteria.

callmeadoctor · 20/07/2020 13:58

Are Mumsnet allowing this chat? They pounce on anything to do with Harrys mental state? (just saying.........................)

LolaSkoda · 20/07/2020 13:59

I think there is a fine line between brilliance and being mentally unwell.

I find it hard to put his speech down to mental illness because of his history. Assuming he must be unwell because his views and delivery are different to the mainstream, seems unfair and a way to invalidate a black mans views.

Complicated one.

Doodar · 20/07/2020 14:05

He came across very well on the David Letterman show, very articulate, I really liked him. He talks about his Bi polar, and that the drugs make him fat which really distresses him.
He’s being used to get the black vote, so Trump wins again.

People are saying they're worried about him. Are we not allowed speak about mental health now?

DitchinVirgin · 20/07/2020 14:15

After watching Amy Winehouse being pushed onto stage when she was clearly very unwell has stopped me being shocked at anything.

Staplemaple · 20/07/2020 14:16

@LolaSkoda I agree it shouldn't be assumed, but him and his family have been fairly open about his struggle with bi polar and refusal to take the medication for various reasons. It's not completely random.
