I’m not a Dr but looking at the speech Kanye West gave last night, he is clearly unwell. Shouldn’t somebody be looking after him, checking his medication, keeping him away from events etc until he is better??

I'll save my compassion for skint & anonymous people who are bipolar.

longwayoff · 20/07/2020 21:08

Piers Morgan? I blame his parents.

Is there a limited amount of compassion to go round?

FilthyforFirth · 20/07/2020 22:00

I completely agree. I was a huge, huge, Kanye fan in the beginning. Have seen him live countless times, thought his first 5 albums wer3 genuine genius. In short I loved him and thought he was a breath of fresh air in the genre.

I think two things changed. The first is his mother dying, and the manner in which she died. I read countless articles at the time about how he blamed himself as he paid for her surgery. Not an easy thing to have on your conscience. Not that I am saying he should.

The second is hooking up with that car crash of a family. His mental health has declined so so rapidly since being entangled with that classless group of attention seekers. I think they are the worst possible thing for his mental health.

Had he stuck with Jay Z etc I think his condition would have been managed a lot better. I dont know enough sbout bipolar but I assume you are born with it, but environmental factors influence how much you develop/experience it? His mother and the people he used to surround himself with clearly were so much better for him, and he was a better person for it.

He hates people saying this now, but I miss the old Kanye.

I think this will split him and Kim up for sure. What right has he got to announce to the world that she nearly had an abortion.

SemperIdem · 20/07/2020 22:22

I feel very sorry for North. No amount of money in the world will take the sting out of what he said. If that doesn’t damage her in years to come, when she is old enough to understand, I will be amazed.

Staplemaple · 20/07/2020 22:24

I'm not a Kardashian fan particularly, but having shamefully watched KUWTK, he has been bad for her also, he comes across as so controlling, and she has completely changed since being with him. He knew who she was and what world she was a part of too, and regardless of how much money you have it's hard dealing with a loved one with MH issues; especially as this isn't the first time he has publically humiliated her. Again we are back somewhat to blaming the woman, it's not her fault.

PhilSwagielka · 20/07/2020 22:41

@MotherMorph Agreed, especially about Gazza. I'm genuinely surprised he's still alive. I know he's attempted suicide in the past and he's got alcohol and drug issues. He'll end up like George Best at this rate. That photo of Best when he was sick and dying in hospital will haunt me.

AfterSchoolWorry · 20/07/2020 22:52

Awful. I feel bad for North.

He stormed the stage at the MTV awards in 2009 BEFORE he met Kim. When he was 32 (!!) I believe (and Taylor was 19, not 17, but still). Old Kanye was just as big a prick as the new one.

You should watch the Miss Americana documentary on Netflix. It doesn't even cover all the shit he has put Taylor through (and was made before the full phone call was leaked at the start of lockdown). Videoing that call was a deliberate attempt to ruin her simply because she was at the peak of her career (and doing fantastically) at that time. Was she the first celeb to be 'cancelled' on social media? Possibly. Just awful. And she did nothing wrong.

In the leaked footage you can tell how cautious and wary she is of him but she tries to be nice because she knows he's dangerous. She has been vindicated now I suppose but is still tarnished with being cast as a bitter, victim player.

He's horrible.

Chocoholic12 · 21/07/2020 01:16

Poor North and Kim. I would be mortified. He is clearly unwell.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 21/07/2020 01:31

He's clearly, extremely unwell...... And as his wife's the only one not leeching off him (( she isn't on his payroll)) she needs to step in and force help onto him.

It was do distressing seeing him on that stage, so traumatised and out of it. God knows what they were thinking broadcasting a man in such a vulnerable state around the world.

excuseforfights · 21/07/2020 02:05

Im struggling to have much sympathy or care, not sure if that’s because I’ve never enjoyed him as an artist or because he seems like a megalomaniac. No idea if he’s genuinely ill or playing it up.

HermioneMakepeace · 21/07/2020 02:13

I'm just curious, could this $1M to each new mother plan work? They could use it to buy a house, embark on training or start a small business. If they are poor mothers who are likely to be on benefits, they'd probably get this much anyway, over the years.

Sorry, I know this thread is not about this, but I am just curious...

pokehuman · 21/07/2020 03:11

Have you ever tried to help a ‘non-celebrity’ with bipolar or mania? Fucking impossible! Grandiose extremes - until they endanger themselves and you can maybe use last resort - section. Which isn’t nice to instigate or decide on. Manic phases mean the person doesn’t ever agree they have an issue. Will convince you black is white, insult you, blame you, character assassinate you if you question their mental health. Awful all around. Worse for him and their family.

Have no clue how you’d control Kanye West. Everyone around him is being paid. No-one wants to disagree.

He’s unwell. His family and wife cannot he blamed. That would be so hard to stop. The press have a role here for sure - but we know their goals which don’t coincide with being morally responsible.

Errr no. You’d have the teenagers getting pregnant, as per 1990’s UK.
Mnhealth202020 · 21/07/2020 03:21

I feel like people have been saying this for several years now, he goes on weird angry rants A LOT. It’s basically his identity now

Mnhealth202020 · 21/07/2020 03:26

Sorry but the Kardashians/Jenners are a media powerhouse. If they wanted him to stop this, they would have intervened or they would have influenced the press to somewhat suppress the coverage and protect their brand. They probably let him continue to do this for the ongoing extra publicity and to keep him relevant

What he’s said will damage their brand. He has his own money, staff and power. I doubt they could control him and haven’t!
katie43210 · 21/07/2020 03:50

He's all over twitter right now saying all sorts. I agree he does need help, it's really sad to see somebody so clearly unwell, whether famous or not.

Goosefoot · 21/07/2020 04:00

My experience with people who are bipolar is there is very little you can do for them. Unless they are so far out they are a danger to themselves or others, it's really up to them, they have to want help. And often, they don't.

Leflic · 21/07/2020 04:39

My DH was working backstage at Glastonbury when Kanye came off stage and punched one of the crew straight in the face for no reason.

He’s not a good guy, mental health issues not withstanding.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 21/07/2020 07:17

He has a lot of people relying on him that will indulge him this is always a situation than go go so easily very wrong

He doesn’t seem well but he wouldn’t be sectioned if he was living in the UK he needs support from a mh team (unless in a very nice private hospital and it’s voluntary) he hasn’t as far as we know made physical threats to others or himself

He is a very talented and a very complex person (possibly more so due to his mh) like many people are just he has an audience that plays into his perception of his own importance it’s very sad and played out in such a public way is like watching a car about to crash

blurpityblurp · 21/07/2020 08:31

Why are people bringing up Prince Harry??

Kanye has been diagnosed by a psychiatrist with bipolar disorder and has spoken openly about his illness.

There’s not the slightest hint that Harry has a mental illness, it’s just another mad lie the racist Megziteer nutters invented to try to smear her, in between claiming she used to work as a prostitute and claiming Archie doesn’t exist. Please stop trying to drag Meghan and Harry into every single thread.

Ballybeyondthepail · 21/07/2020 09:00

He's a nut job, but a rich nut job surrounded by yes men making money off him, no-one is going to tell him he needs help. Zero respect for the man, ego-maniac gone superstellar, the dissing of Harriet Tubman was the absolute low point of his 'speech' as far as I was concerned.
The world would be better off if he got locked up, he's dangerous to America right now.
