Ok so this is somewhat lighthearted but myself and DH are constantly arguing about who is right.

....how do you make up squash?

One of us puts the water in first then adds the squash
The other one puts the squash in first and then adds the water.

How do you make it up and why do you do it that way? Water first or squash first?

I'm hoping to prove my way is the right way (😬)

I don't want to put YABU OR YANBU next to either as it'll out which way I do it!

Robinson Barley Water ads show the squash going in first, then water. I recon that’s the decider.

horsemadgal · 19/07/2020 13:05

I always used to put squash first and then water as it mixes easier.
Now, after problems with dirty tap water here, I do water first to check it is clear and then add the squash

jessstan2 · 19/07/2020 13:05

Peel it and cut into smallish pieces, then put in water. Simples!

1forAll74 · 19/07/2020 13:07

Definitely squash first. then you can gauge how much water to add, as to the flavour strength you personally like.

Fascinating thread! Grin

Am I the only person on MN who never drinks squash? I was never keen even as a child and as an adult I've never bothered with it, especially now it's full of aspartame or other artificial sweeteners. If I did drink it, though, obviously I'd put the squash in first.

No - I don't drink mass-produced squash. I do, however, sometimes (rarely) pick up naice squash from organic producers or at farmers' markets. Naturally, in my answer, I was referring to this squash. :)

TwoBlueFish · 19/07/2020 13:15

Squash first, DS1 & DH both drink it.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/07/2020 13:19

Squash then water.
The same rule applies to milk then tea.

*runs away quickly.

Knittedfairies · 19/07/2020 13:24

Obviously it's squash first; doesn't it say something like 'dilute to taste' on the label?

mystomachisrumbling · 19/07/2020 13:28

Squash then water.

No one expect sociopaths does the tonic then gin do they? Or an iced coffee with the cream in the bottom of the glass? Or a pavlova with the strawberries underneath? We're not mad.

BreatheAndFocus · 19/07/2020 13:31

Squash first. It mixes in better that way.

Namechangex10000 · 19/07/2020 13:33

Squash first.

Daftodil · 19/07/2020 13:36

Water first to check it isn't cloudy.

namesnames · 19/07/2020 13:37

Squash first.

Shizzlestix · 19/07/2020 13:40

Squash first then water to mix/disperse the squash.

MongerTruffle · 19/07/2020 13:42

that sounds a bit lazy, and I’m just checking, but is your water activated charcoal filtered - or are we talking bog -standard Brita? Because I’m judging you if so

Brita filters use activated charcoal. Smile

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/07/2020 13:43

Dilute pop first then water

MulticolourMophead · 19/07/2020 13:45

Squash first so you can see how much is there. Then when you add the water, it mixes in fine.

I've done water first before, and had to stir to get it mixed properly.

Ellie56 · 19/07/2020 13:45

Squash /cordial first. As pp said if you do it the other way you then have to stir it. Why make yourself an extra job? Hmm

Go on OP which one are you?

utterlynutty · 19/07/2020 13:46

Squash first

Ellie56 · 19/07/2020 13:46

I don't drink squash either.

Pesimistic · 19/07/2020 13:47

Squash first, if you put water first it doesnt mix properly so you get concentrated squash at the bottom and weak squash at the top

SmudgeButt · 19/07/2020 13:47

Butternut or acorn - all squash are dealt with in the same manner.

Cut of stem bit, cut in half, scoop out seeds, put in knob of butter and stick in over on a tray for an appropriate amount of time at a reasonable temperature to bake. Take out of oven, serve and eat.

But if it's the liquid squash stuff I wouldn't know as it's all disgusting and I never drink it. it gets the full yuck.

Littleposh · 19/07/2020 13:48

Water first, no idea why!!

StuffThem · 19/07/2020 13:48

Squash then water BUT if its a nice sugary cordial and fizzy water it goes water then cordial then water to get the cordial fully dispersed without having to stir out most of the bubbles Grin
