Ok so this is somewhat lighthearted but myself and DH are constantly arguing about who is right.

....how do you make up squash?

One of us puts the water in first then adds the squash
The other one puts the squash in first and then adds the water.

How do you make it up and why do you do it that way? Water first or squash first?

I'm hoping to prove my way is the right way (😬)

I don't want to put YABU OR YANBU next to either as it'll out which way I do it!

Depends if I am making up a jug or glass.

I used to put the squash in a glass first but always put in too much, so now I put the water in first and add the squash slowly until it is the right strength.
Still put the squash in first when I am making a jug. For some reason I tend to put proportionately less in when i make a jug.

Sorry to make it so complicated.

Squash first. My husband does water first then uses a spoon to mix (which I left on the side and not put in the dishwasher Hmm)

GreenEyedDevil · 19/07/2020 12:13

Squash first

LilacSloth · 19/07/2020 12:13

Squash first. Otherwise you have to mix it so squash is evenly distributed.

vinoelle · 19/07/2020 12:14

Squash first. Anyone who puts the water in first is a sociopath. Like putting milk in before the hot water for tea.

Standrewsschool · 19/07/2020 12:18

Squash first.

However, will often put milk in cup with teabag before adding hot water.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/07/2020 12:21

Water first. But i am putting just tiniest bit of squash for just a hint of flavour, so maybe that's why water first.

cattasaurus · 19/07/2020 12:21

Squash first it allows it to mix and the bubbles stop you filling the glass too high and spilling the drink later

lotsofbunnies · 19/07/2020 12:21

squash first.

BahMooQuack · 19/07/2020 12:21

Squash first.

If it is squeezed lemon juice them lemon last.

[adds a complicating factor to a simple question]

MyFartWillGoOn · 19/07/2020 12:23

Ok some good points on both sides but...

I'm squash first and DH is water first!

My logic is exactly the same as everyone else's, that the water pressure ensures a good mix. Whereas with water first, the squash just lays at the top of the glass and doesn't mix

Also, how can you get the measurements right with water FIRST? Surely the only way to assess how much squash there is, is to put it in first?

The annoyance is that I'm the only one who drinks squash so when DH makes it for me, I have to go and get a spoon to mix it up. DH thinks it's fine and I'm being fussy as 'everyone puts water in first-it's easier'

I did start putting milk in his tea first as PP said (I don't drink tea) but that was apparently utter madness, whereas water first in squash is normal.

sanityisamyth · 19/07/2020 12:23

Squash first. It doesn't mix properly otherwise.

MyFartWillGoOn · 19/07/2020 12:25

Also, to add complications-if I'm making a big bottle in reusable bottle where you can't see through it, I'll put water first so I can judge how much room there is at the top and therefore how much squash has gone in.

But the key difference here is I can put a lid on and shake it. DH thinks me doing it this way in bottles proves he's right....

emilybrontescorsett · 19/07/2020 12:25

Well I always did squash first but now I do water first. I have no idea why I changed. I don't really drink it, just make it for others.

BahMooQuack · 19/07/2020 12:27

Oh i do the same in a bottle you can;t see and if I am filling up my squash and water in the middle of the night in the dark. i have t o'hear' the water.

There are more factors to consider than i ever consciously realised.

Davros · 19/07/2020 12:27

Squash first

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/07/2020 12:28

Show him this thread and then LTB.

Giraffey1 · 19/07/2020 12:31

Def squash / cordial first so I can be sure to to get the right strength.

VenusTiger · 19/07/2020 12:34

Just like making a G'n'T you need to see how much of the good stuff you're pouring in - there's the right answer OP Grin squash first - it even says so on the bottle!

Witchend · 19/07/2020 12:35

It depends.
If the squash is on the table, and I'm getting glasses to put on the table, then I'll fill them with water then take them to the table to add squash. If we're at the table with a jug of water, then normally I'd put the squash in first.

When the children were little we used to make them squash cocktails with different colour squashes. If you do the water in first then pour the squashes slowly they settle in layers.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 19/07/2020 12:37

Squash first!! It doesn't mix as well if you use water first unless you consider using a spoon to mix it....

AMomHasNoName · 19/07/2020 12:37

Always water first for us :D

FatherBrownsBicycle · 19/07/2020 12:40

Squash first, the water splashing into the glass mixes it.

SluggishSnail · 19/07/2020 12:53

Squash first if I'm making it with normal water.
Water first if it's sparkling (it fizzes over if the squash is in first)

BlueJava · 19/07/2020 12:57

Squash first here too - that's how I know how much to put in and the water going in mixes it better. Otherwise I need a spoon to stir it - more washing up!
