Everytime I go round a friend's house and they bring out the pims I can't have it because virtually all lemonade now has sweeteners in. People say they taste like crap and gives me such a bad headache.

Meh. If you don't like it then don't drink it. They are the hosts and offering your the drink therefore it's up to them whether they choose to the diet version with sweetener and not the fatty teeth rotting kind. A bit OTT for you to be pissed at Jamie Oliver, I agree with what he did.

He lobbied for the sugar tax. No, I absolutely hate the fact that most drinks have got sweeteners in, they taste awful. I rarely drank them, nice treat on with loads of ice, or as you say in Pimms.

I’d rather pay more and have sugar than pay the same and have sweetener but sadly that’s not the option.

I agree. Used to like pimms and lemonade. All sweeteners now. To me they taste bitter and chemically. Even no added sugar squash is gross. When I was pregnant I really craved lime squash. Had to get this bloody expensive stuff coz it was the only lot without sweeteners in it.

YANBU. My diabetic DP needed a sugary drink fast when we were out the one day. Not a single full sugar drink to be had in the pub we stumbled into.

Because of JO, both diet kind and the sugary kind have sweeteners. Sweeteners taste disgusting and leave an aftertaste that lasts all night. They also give me headaches and now it's difficult to find sweetener free soft drinks.

He was concerned about the obesity crisis and kids being fed junk food. He wants children to know where their food comes from, to have proper cooking lessons in school and for people to be able to knock up a few basic balanced meals.

I've always found his cheeky chappy/blokey persona a bit irritating but am totally behind his campaigns.

I don’t mind paying a sugar tax...it’s the fact that there’s hardly any options available that pisses me off.
I normally buy water if I’m thirsty, but sometimes like a soft drink. The only options are Coke and Club orange. Even 7 Up has put sweeteners in.

Not at all unreasonable!! I absolutely cannot stand him! I used to enjoy a glass of irn bru occasionally and this stupid man has ruined it I’m nowhere near overweight and more than capable of deciding for my self wether I want sugar or not.

Pimms and lemonade is awful. Pimms and ginger ale or Pimms and pomegranate juice is the way forward 😁

Exactly, it's now near impossible to go to a pub and get sweetener free lemonade.

The diet choices were already available.

I'm not convinced there's the science there to say artificial sweeteners are any better for you. Pointless!

Yeah I hate sweeteners too. The fact that they’re even in non-diet drinks is crap. If I want diet drinks I’d bloody buy them! When I want a fizzy drink - maybe once a month - I want it to taste nice, not like toilet cleaner.

I bought some reduced sugar reduced salt ketchup recently. It was sooo sweet because they hadn’t just reduced the sugar, they’d added loads of disgusting sweeteners.

I’m all for eating/consuming less sugar, and reducing my reliance on sweet things, but why the need to then make them double sweet and also a bit bitter into the bargain!

I think some sweeteners are like coriander - some people find the taste really offputting (apparently coriander is a gene thing - some people have it and some don’t) so anyone who can happily tolerate it just doesn’t get that taste that some of us do.

Well this obviously isn't a fact and it's your unfortunate experience, myself and my family don't seem to have these issues. I think people just like being over dramatic about this stuff because they don't like change. Ah well, more for me

I hate sweetners. But to be fair companies could just have kept with sugar and let those of us that prefer sugar pay the tax.
