To think appletiser is the height of sophistication

I’m from a teetotal family, and as an adult don’t drink very much or very often these days (liver issues, migraines and the dread of having to look after a 4 year old with a hangover have put me off)

As a kid we had appletiser on special occasions, and even now, if I go to a restaurant and it’s on the menu, I’ll order it.

Please tell me I’m not alone in thinking appletiser is the height of sophistication

YANBU

magnarocks · 10/07/2020 18:59

YANBU

magnarocks · 10/07/2020 18:59

So true, I said it twice.

Galvia · 10/07/2020 19:00

Definitely the non alcoholic drink of choice when out and a Christmas dinner table staple. The height of sophistication!

Dylaninthemovies1 · 10/07/2020 19:01

@magnarocks. Did you also vote in the poll? I’m celebrating my 100% Yanbu with some appletiser

Yes it completely is. That and schloer (disrespectfully called schlurp in this house)

GrumpyHoonMain · 10/07/2020 19:01

No, I think Fever Tree Aromatic tonic water is amazing with a dash of rose syrup. With or without gin.

UnaOfStormhold · 10/07/2020 19:02

Sophistication is overrated.

TheYellowOfTheEgg · 10/07/2020 19:03

I like Appletise, but I don't think it's sophisticated.

I hate Schloer. It has such a nasty taste.

randomchap · 10/07/2020 19:03

Apple and Mango J20 is far superior.

SingleHandSue · 10/07/2020 19:04

My 14yo DS’s favourite drink.

I don’t get it much prefer wine , however if we ever eat out he’s so happy if he can have an appetiser in the bottle with a straw. He hates it watered down with ice and reckons it tastes better from the bottle.

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/07/2020 19:05

I prefer it to wine.

Schloer is also ok but appletiser is better.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 10/07/2020 19:07

Sophisticated, no. Bloody delicious, yes. A glass of Appletiser with loads of ice on a hot day is wonderful.

StCharlotte · 10/07/2020 19:08

I went to a Bahrain Embassy Christmas Party at the Dorchester (no Ferrero Rocher but there was an ice sculpture).

Bahrain is ostensibly dry but I know you can get a drink there so I was mildly suprised (and more than mildly disappointed!) that there was no alcohol and then they brought some champagne round. Hurrah! Nope: Appletiser.

We didn't stay long and ended up having a session in the Bag O'Nails in our black tie finery.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 10/07/2020 19:10

@StCharlotte. See. Even the good people of Bahrain knows it’s the champagne of soft drinks

Always been a big hit here. I'm not sure if you can other variations in UK but here we get Appletiser, Peartiser and Grapetiser in red and white.

I prefer the Grape to the Apple

Chickoletta · 10/07/2020 19:11

I’m from a teetotal Methodist family and Shloer has always been our special occasion drink. My Grandma used to ask ‘Red or white?‘ with no irony at all...!

StuffThem · 10/07/2020 19:12

Too sweet for me these days, but I used to love it so don't begrudge your claim.

Try Cawston Press Sparkling Apple. It's even better Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2020 19:14

Its years since I've had it, was never a huge fan but I'd love a proper bottle of orangina like you get in France.

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 10/07/2020 19:14

No idea. I'm not allowed to drink it Grin Apparently made me hyper as a child and I'm mentally stuck with the no appletiser rules....

labyrinthloafer · 10/07/2020 19:17

Appletiser is of course sophisticated, forever associated with France in my mind.

Minai · 10/07/2020 19:18

I love appetiser. It’s one of the few soft drinks I can enjoy the taste of as it doesn’t have the artificial sweeteners that most soft drinks now have since the sugar tax.

Warpdrive · 10/07/2020 19:19

Is no-one going to talk about the often overlooked but refreshingly sublime Britvic 55?

DelurkingAJ · 10/07/2020 19:20

Many years ago we were celebrating Thanksgiving (DM is American) with some friends who were in the UK for a year. I was 17 and the DDad of the other family brought a case of Appletizer with him for me and my friend (same age) to have instead of champagne. So clearly he agrees with you, OP. I, however, had a glass of champagne! He was horrified!

labyrinthloafer · 10/07/2020 19:21

Ooh Orangina, shake the bottle wake the drink, nothing quenched thirst after a day going bright pink on the beach!
