To think appletiser is the height of sophistication

I’m from a teetotal family, and as an adult don’t drink very much or very often these days (liver issues, migraines and the dread of having to look after a 4 year old with a hangover have put me off)

As a kid we had appletiser on special occasions, and even now, if I go to a restaurant and it’s on the menu, I’ll order it.

Please tell me I’m not alone in thinking appletiser is the height of sophistication

Think that's part of the appeal, it used to make your throat feel mad if you drank it super-fast through a straw

Britvic 55 😂😂 dear Lord I miss the motherland 😂😂

Blingismything · 10/07/2020 19:35

I love it, it used to be called Appletise, without the 'r'.

I have a very difficult time post section with my twins, came round in intensive care and wasn't allowed any fluids for 24 hours bar 15ml of water an hour.

I was desperate for Appletiser, the only genuine craving I've ever had for anything in my entire life and still in intensive care so had to rely on my husband to arrange some.... My FIL turned up with Apple Tango as its "all the same stuff"....... I'm still not over it to this day!!!!!!!

Appletise(r) is sublimely refreshing!!

Dylaninthemovies1 · 10/07/2020 19:51

I may try some of the other suggestions here! Rose syrup and tonic water? Elderflower presse? Sounds delicious

I love it, I've recently been keeping a stash in the fridge to drink when I get sad about not being able to have something boozy (I'm pregnant).

Somethingsnappy · 10/07/2020 20:03

I second Orangina!

Vickmo · 10/07/2020 20:06

I've never heard of it before!

Orangina though, delicious although it's been years!

ChewChewsBiscuitTin · 10/07/2020 20:08

I'm a very committed booze drinker but if Orangina is ever an option I'm all over it, but I'm also partial to a bit of Appletise and I do not think for a second you are unreasonable in your statement

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 10/07/2020 20:10

Oh my dad usef to do a "sugar shop" at sainsburys sometimes and there would be appletiser and orangina!

Elderflower presse is lovely.

Ive only had schloer once at a wedding where it was called mormon champagne Grin

YANBU. We mostly have Shloer at home but I usually go for Appletiser if we're at a nice restaurant. I'm not teetotal but rarely drink alcohol.

Grapesoda7 · 10/07/2020 20:17

Ooh yes, I love appetiser, orangina and fizzy elderflower.

I also like the J20 spritz

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/07/2020 20:18

@Chickoletta

I’m from a teetotal Methodist family and Shloer has always been our special occasion drink. My Grandma used to ask ‘Red or white?‘ with no irony at all...!
Oh God I do this at family occassions. We’re nearly all tea total.
Feellikedancingyeah · 10/07/2020 20:19

When I was a teenager about 35 years ago, I thought it was very posh to drink it if we went out for a meal

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/07/2020 20:20

Teetotal even

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/07/2020 20:20

I do think it’s off a certain era. Chicken in a basket and grasshopper pie.

whattodo2019 · 10/07/2020 20:20

No!! It's a cheap nasty sugary drink found everywhere!!
Fever tree tonics with non alcoholic mix would be much more sophisticated. So would a simple sparkling water!

clipclop5 · 10/07/2020 20:22

@MaddeningtheUnhelpful

No idea. I'm not allowed to drink it Grin Apparently made me hyper as a child and I'm mentally stuck with the no appletiser rules....
@MaddeningtheUnhelpful very odd....
ChristmasFluff · 10/07/2020 20:23

I second the PP who voted for Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic Water - all the flavours are fab, and taste very adult.

Gagging at the thought of Schloer and Appletiser. And as for Orangina - it's surely but a small step on the slippery slope to Um Bongo and Sunny D?

IncrediblySadToo · 10/07/2020 20:24

Only if you're 8 & it's 1978

Other than that it's just an average 'Eating our' cold drink for kids. With FAR too much sugar
