To think appletiser is the height of sophistication

I’m from a teetotal family, and as an adult don’t drink very much or very often these days (liver issues, migraines and the dread of having to look after a 4 year old with a hangover have put me off)

As a kid we had appletiser on special occasions, and even now, if I go to a restaurant and it’s on the menu, I’ll order it.

Please tell me I’m not alone in thinking appletiser is the height of sophistication

What was that non alcoholic drink that came out in the 90s? Tasted a bit like melon? Very yuppie
Aqua Libra was a melon tasting one in the 80s. It was amazing. I still miss it. Are you thinking of that? Or possibly Purdeys? I think that is still around.

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow Snapple?

I loved San Pelligrino too until the sweeteners. Now they make me feel sick.

StuffThem · 11/07/2020 11:56

I'm so glad somebody mentioned the San pelligrino switch to sweeteners. Now i know why I went off it Sad

Still flying my flag for Cawston press apple (not rhubarb and) though 🏳

hopingtobedally · 11/07/2020 16:27

@JacobReesMogadishu piermont was in a green bottle with mountains

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/07/2020 16:30

Think I was thinking of Purdeys drink, that was in a small grey bottle.

mum2jakie · 11/07/2020 16:31

I voted yes but was getting confused with Orangina!

longwayoff · 11/07/2020 22:23

What? Sweeteners!?! Farewell then San Pellegrino. I don't drink soft drinks very often but if they're going to be sweet then I want sugar in them not horrible sweeteners which taste utterly foul.

ChangeThePassword · 11/07/2020 22:49

Totally agree with you. I don't understand the people that say they can't tell the difference. I didn't know San Pellegrino had changed their recipe till I drank some...

I think Posh Pop and Belvoir are safe, they are a good alternative, as is Cawston Press. But I don't take it for granted any more!

Chasingsquirrels · 12/07/2020 07:52

Agree on San Pellegrino, used to really like the orange but it tastes horrible now.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/07/2020 08:15

Aqua Libre, that was it. It wasn’t too sweet, we’d often have a bottle instead of wine with meals. Or shloer, but then -sweeteners.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 12/07/2020 08:18

As soon as I opened a new recipe san pel I could tell before I drank any (and rubicon). What pissed me if was they did it because of the sugar tax, but the price stayed the same!

SomethingOnce · 12/07/2020 08:20

Aqua Libre, that was it.

AL relaunched as flavoured sparkling water a year or two ago. Fucking undrinkable, and nothing like the melony goodness of the 80s stuff.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/07/2020 08:37

Wasn't it called Appletise before?
Yes love it.

vanillandhoney · 12/07/2020 08:39

@whattodo2019

No!! It's a cheap nasty sugary drink found everywhere!! Fever tree tonics with non alcoholic mix would be much more sophisticated. So would a simple sparkling water!
What are you talking about?

It's just carbonated apple juice and has no added sugar whatsoever.

Fever Tree on the other hand is full of added sugars. In fact, sugar makes up 14% of the can and is the second ingredient to water.

Maybe check your facts next time?

ChangeThePassword · 12/07/2020 08:39

What pissed me if was they did it because of the sugar tax, but the price stayed the same

But that was why they did it. The sugar tax would have made things more expensive. They added sweeteners so they could keep the price the same.

ShimmeringIce · 12/07/2020 08:52

I'm also a fan of mint and lime cordial and forced it on every guest last summer, but can't find it this year Sad
Schloer is grim.

Snog · 13/07/2020 07:29
