To think appletiser is the height of sophistication

I’m from a teetotal family, and as an adult don’t drink very much or very often these days (liver issues, migraines and the dread of having to look after a 4 year old with a hangover have put me off)

As a kid we had appletiser on special occasions, and even now, if I go to a restaurant and it’s on the menu, I’ll order it.

Please tell me I’m not alone in thinking appletiser is the height of sophistication

Appletiser is good with vodka.

My idea of a sophisticated non-alcoholic drink is blood orange San Pellegrino as per PP or, ideally, actual fresh citron pressé from an actual Parisian cafe.

I used to have a job which required regular trips to Paris: much less exciting than you’d hope, because the day normally went tube-train-metro-office-metro-train-tube. But on the rare occasions when I got fifteen minutes off, I would scoot to a café to have a citron pressé and revel in the sheer NotLondon sophistication of it all.

RainbowMum11 · 10/07/2020 23:17

Yes - was my special drink of choice when pregnant!!!

jessstan2 · 10/07/2020 23:24

You're not unreasonable, you can think what you like about any food or drink. I think it is a very palatable drink, my son always has it at home and loves it.

c0ntent5 · 10/07/2020 23:26

Love appletise, cracking mixer with rhubarb and ginger gin!

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2020 23:30

San Pellegrino started using Stevie so I can't drink it anymore, I used to like the limonata.

NellePorter · 10/07/2020 23:31

I drink very little alcohol, for exactly the same reasons as you, OP, and I love an Appletiser! I don't think it's particularly sophisticated though.... I don't like the sweetners / additives in drinks like J20 and Schloer.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/07/2020 23:32

Stevia even, thank you auto correct.

TokyoSushi · 10/07/2020 23:35

I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you OP until about a month ago when I discovered Fevertree Sicilian lemonade, it's amazing!!

DrCoconut · 10/07/2020 23:42

DS2 loves it and calls it posh apple juice Grin

itwilldropoff · 11/07/2020 00:08

I’m so sophisticated I drink it from a crystal champagne flute at Christmas and other significant occasionsGrin

AntiHop · 11/07/2020 00:13

I love it, especially as it doesn't have stevia or any artificial sweeteners.

JammyHands · 11/07/2020 00:16

Cawston Apple and Rhubarb fizz and you're talking!

SueGeneris · 11/07/2020 00:17

But since they added the ‘r’ you do have to say it in a West Country accent.

Appletiserrrrr

Ticklemelmo · 11/07/2020 00:18

Appeltiser is lush, it was my pregnancy craving. 😅😅

Nat6999 · 11/07/2020 01:24

I once got reported to social services for drinking while waiting for ds outside school, I was actually drinking Appletiser.

isthismylifenow · 11/07/2020 06:40

In the 90s I used to drink Appletiser and Southern Comfort. I might have to try that again some day.

longwayoff · 11/07/2020 06:46

San Pellegrino please, lemon and mint.

Whatdoyouthinkaboutthisone · 11/07/2020 06:54

YANBU OP!
I love it and have just bought 2 packs on offer! Always do stock up when I see it! I see it as a treat just for me Smile

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/07/2020 06:55

I LOVE it and it’s one of your 5 a day!! Win win!!

longwayoff · 11/07/2020 06:57

Oh, and very occasionally, Fentimans Rose Lemonade. V sweet though, got a small bottle in the fridge that's been there for about 12 months as I keep looking at it and thinking, no, too sweet. I'll drink it in celebration when eventually see grandchildren after this long break since Christmas.

Sunbird24 · 11/07/2020 07:06

Got all the way to page 5 before anyone mentioned Cawston Press Apple & rhubarb or San Pellegrino Lemon & mint, 2 of my favourites! Appletise was definitely the sophisticated option for soft drinks when I still lived at home, and it’s still a nice treat now because of the memories it evokes. It’s fantastic that there are so many different options now, but YANBU

isthismylifenow · 11/07/2020 07:09

The smaller bottles are glass, we get the cans as well. But now I see the 1 litre bottle is plastic Shock

This just isn't right. Appletiser comes in a glass bottle. I was quite outraged when I saw that.

ChangeThePassword · 11/07/2020 07:17

No!! It's a cheap nasty sugary drink found everywhere!!
Fever tree tonics with non alcoholic mix would be much more sophisticated

So funny! Appletiser has no added sugar, it's just fizzy fruit juice. Fever Tree tonic on the other hand, has sugar as its second ingredient, the only thing it has more of is water. And (sad git that I am) checked the nutritional info. Yep, 16% sugar in the tonic as opposed to 10% (natural) sugar in the Appletiser.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 11/07/2020 07:18

What was that non alcoholic drink that came out in the 90s? Tasted a bit like melon? Very yuppie. That was my pregnancy/bfing/driving Drink of choice.
Our local Heron have been having lots of Fentimans drinks in cheap. I’ve stocked up on rose lemonade, root beer and lots of tonic. Sweet yes, but only have a little glass now and again.

ChangeThePassword · 11/07/2020 07:26

I used to love San Pellegrino. Sadly they ruined it for me, the day they started adding sweeteners. I remember how disappointing it was when I had my first can after it changed. Not bought one since, its not enjoyable any more.
