No Wraparound Care from September

School has advised that they are not offering wrap around care from September as bubbles cannot be mixed.
They are thinking that part time places are also the way forward as they cannot social distance properly in a smaller place.
Further information hasnt been announced yet
Im a bit lost of how Im going to work without wrap around care, yes im working from home but who knows how long that will be for

It's been made explicitly clear that school should be full time by the government. Wrap around is much more up to the schools to decide

Have they announced that this is what might happen or what will happen?
Thankfully my DD is high school now but I relied on additional childcare to be able to work when she was younger so I get it.

I work 40 minutes away so how are they expecting me to collect DC on time? I finish work at 2:30. Work wont allow me to leave early without booking leave and I cant drop half an hour a day on my contract. Looks like I may be job hunting.

They are saying that it will be stand as it is now, no extra care and staggered opening and closing.
My year 1 child will finish at 2.30 to avoid mixed contact

Makes me feel a bit sick, how do I work with no wrap around care?

There will be no breakfast or after school clubs running at my school.

The staff who did run ours have resigned (they were each clinically vulnerable and have chose not to return to work as 1:1s with pupils with significant SEND who will not be able to socially distance.

We have been unable to replace them (no applicants) which is extremely difficult. No other staff are in the position to run the wraparound care either.

I would hope that if you explain this to the teacher beforehand, they would be kind enough to keep your child for the extra 10-15 mins after school of their own accord. I would have them sit and read a book in the classroom while I dismissed the other children, which can easily take 10 minutes.

I realise it's not a requirement that a teacher would do this, but I would if the child was in my class and the parent was open about it from the beginning. You can't help it that the school changed the school day for such an unprecedented reason. If the school day was permanently changing then that's one thing, but because of this virus? I'd do it for you.

That is really stressful. Can you club together with other mums with kids in same year as your child (if end times are staggered) and take it in turns to collect a group of kids? That way people only have to take an earlier finish from work once a week or whatever?

I’m a childminder and I’m providing wrap around.

There’s no wraparound care at our schools, either. I have NO IDEA how people will manage.

I've spoke to other parents but they are reluctant to have children in their home spaces..which I can sympathise with, the virus has made people anxious especially because it hasnt gone away.

None at DS school either and the local nursery that also offer an after school club has advised they won't run it for the foreseeable. School hours have also been reduced by half an hour a day.

Luckily I can keep working remotely for a while longer, although that's going to be a fucker as I'll have to rush to do school run and come back to finish work. I honestly have no idea what other parents are going to do. This is such a mess.

Think I must be in the minority as got a letter from my DDs primary today saying they are offering wraparound (morning and evening). Small 1 form entry primary.

I suppose it makes no difference if a childminder is offering wrap around care if the school/nursery refuse to allow anyone but household members to pick them up. This is the case at my nursery and it has screwed me royally.

I'm a childminder, hopefully going to be able to provide wraparound from September... Not sure how it will work as I have children in different classes to pick up who will have different start and finish times. If the school won't allow it then I'll probably have to close down.

They really haven’t thought this through.

It seriously needs a rethink. My job is hanging in the balance as nursery won’t allow anyone else to pick up, even knowing I physically cannot do it as I work shifts. When I explained I’d probably end up having to give up my job I just got oh well it’s hard and that’s the rules

This has been giving me sleepless nights for weeks now. My husband and I are both full time teachers but if there’s not wrap around care at our child’s school what do we do? We can’t afford to live without us working and chose the school based on their care. I’ve written to local mp but had no reply. The school just send out a blanket ‘we are keeping our staff safe’ and won’t engage any further. It’s really making me quite ill all the worry

Extra-curricular provision
Schools should consider resuming any breakfast and after-school provision, where possible, from the start of the autumn term. We recognise that schools may need to respond flexibly and build this up over time. Such provision will help ensure pupils have opportunities to re-engage with their peers and with the school, ensure vulnerable children have a healthy breakfast and are ready to focus on their lessons, provide enrichment activities, and also support working parents.

We recognise that this will be logistically challenging for schools, particularly for clubs that would normally offer support across year groups, where parents are using multiple providers, or where childminders are picking up/dropping off pupils. Schools should carefully consider how they can make such provision work alongside their wider protective measures, including keeping children within their year groups or bubbles where possible. If it is not possible to maintain bubbles being used during the school day then schools should use small, consistent groups.

Schools can consult the guidance produced for summer holiday childcare, available at Protective measures for out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak as much of this will be useful in planning extra-curricular provision. This includes schools advising parents to limit the number of different wraparound providers they access, as far as possible. Where parents use childcare providers or out of school activities for their children, schools should encourage them to seek assurance that the providers are carefully considering their own protective measures, and only use those providers that can demonstrate this. As with physical activity during the school day, contact sports should not take place.

Our school have said they will not be allowing childminders to do pick ups. It’s caused so much havoc for so many

I am losing sleep over this..noone else from household can pick up...I will have 3 different pick up times also not mentioning the drop off...im beginning to think the home schooling is easier...

Lack of childcare provision will be a key driver of financial catastrophe - mulitply, in consequential job losses due to inability to work, lower spending due to no childcare and also direct job losses in the childcare industry. These things snowball. The govt need to get a hold of this, sharpish.

It’s not everywhere though - we Have been informed that our wrap around care will reopen in sept.

Sorry - I didn’t mean to press post! I mean that it’s obviously possible to offer it and to mix bubbles so there should be some operating somewhere .
