Mum2Girls19 · 09/07/2020 18:43

School has advised that they are not offering wrap around care from September as bubbles cannot be mixed.
They are thinking that part time places are also the way forward as they cannot social distance properly in a smaller place.
Further information hasnt been announced yet
Im a bit lost of how Im going to work without wrap around care, yes im working from home but who knows how long that will be for

Anyone else??

Reading this thread makes me realise how lucky we are that our school has put a really well thought out plan in place. Early morning club from 730am split by year groups, and afterschool club until 5pm, with the school staff providing some of it themselves so that they can split year groups up. Also running lots of outdoor sports clubs after school.

It’s so worrying reading about the number of schools who aren’t doing this, and the number of working parents whose livelihoods are going to under threat. The govt needs to do something. Has anyone seen the “should I return to work” tool on gov.co.uk - their only suggestions are to try and get a school place, or take unpaid leave???

How is the school funding the staffing for that? Is it TAs or teachers? It must mean a lot more staff are needed.

@Helpmyhair2019

If one more person suggests I just ‘find a nanny’ I think I will scream! Not everyone lives in a large populated town with nannies on tap!
Try an unemployed graduate. Seem to be plenty of those cannot get a job/job offers cancelled.

It’s a privately run club, run by a local nursery group, and paid for by the parents,£5 an hour.

Try an unemployed graduate.

But do they need to be given the same terms and conditions as a nanny though? What about insurance? Can childcare vouchers be used?

There are laws around these things, for good reason. This is not a few hours babysitting.

I suspect this is part of the answer, but people do need guidance. Turning blind eyes to lots of cash in hand work is very problematic and not actually doable for some set ups.

You can't use tax credits or tax free childcare to pay someone who isn't on the scheme

For many people they simply can't afford to pay for childcare without that help

Cash in hand for childcare is, as you say, very problematic. It's ridiculous how casually people are saying "just pay someone"

We have such a shit attitude to the care of children and the elderly here. Just stick them with a teenager on a few quid an hour and that's acceptable

Helpmyhair2019 · 11/07/2020 13:48

An unemployed graduate??? Why would they be suitable for childcare?

Helpmyhair2019 · 11/07/2020 13:50

Just to add to the fun mix my son has anaphylaxis so this would need me to find a suitable unemployed graduate that was EpiPen trained and happy
To drive to and from school twice a day

Passmethepepsi · 11/07/2020 16:53

@CherryTreesandSeaswimming I’m in the same position as you. Nursery won’t allow anyone else to pick up which is impossible for me to donbI’ll likely lose my job because of it and was told by the staff yeah I know it’s hard isn’t it when I explained this to them Angry

BigChocFrenzy · 12/07/2020 00:07

Bloody ridiculous and totally impractical

If schools reopen, they should do so with normal times and rules on dropoffs,
with wraparound care as before

Stop making parents - mostly mothers - jump through meaningless hoops / bubbles

Sensible measures:
Let teachers and pupils wear masks if they wish,
pay for extra cleaning, sinks, staff / supervisors

"no childminders to collect children from multiple households."

The Department for Education has made it clear that childminders are allowed to pick up from schools now, never mind September.
If you're being told that your childminder can't pick up, complain to the Local Authority.

It has been noticed that the schools laying down the law on this usually have their own (currently closed) wraparound clubs and provision...
