I think it's gross.

I have fond memories of a wonderful lunch on holiday in Spain. A glass of gazpacho eaten with fresh bread and a glass of fino sherry, at a small cafe overlooking the Alhambra.
I’ve tried to make it here, but it’s not the same. I think as a PP has said, it’s the tomatoes that make a difference.

Look what this thread has made me go and buy Grin

corythatwas · 11/07/2020 11:30

It's one of those dishes that have to be done exactly right.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 11/07/2020 11:35

I wonder if other foods are this divisive. Maybe I should start threads on other random meals Grin

I especially like it served with hot garlic bread, it's the contrast between the chilled fresh sharp taste of the gazpacho and the hot oozzy butteryness of the garlic bread! Wine Wine

@FarTooMuchWashing funny you say that, we had it at my cousins wedding. It was a last minute sub, she was originally going to have regular soup and then the week before we had a heatwave and it was 34 degrees that day... even the family members who aren’t wild about ‘different’ food agreed that it was probably the best idea they could swap to at short notice given then heat!

Personally OP I love it.

BertieBotts · 11/07/2020 13:03

Never tried it! I have only heard of it from Red Dwarf.

professionalnomad · 11/07/2020 13:38

I live in a hot country (over 30C in July and August)
Gazpacho - straight out the fridge with an extra ice cube and melon is all I live on (and ice cream..)

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/07/2020 13:53

Thank you OP. I have just made some for lunch.

LakieLady · 11/07/2020 13:59

On a hot day, it's really lovely but it does take a bit of getting used to.

There's another cold soup that I've had in a Spanish restaurant in London, it was a creamy colour, garlicky and I think it had almonds in it. That's bloody fab!

Wish I knew what it was called.

Eaumyword · 11/07/2020 14:04

Gazpacho would fill me with horror, but I'm weird about tastes and textures.
Couldn't eat any of it, even to be polite!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 11/07/2020 14:11

I prefer a good vichysoisse as cold soups go, but gazpacho can be delicious if made well

AdaColeman · 11/07/2020 14:28

@LakieLady Possibly, Ajo Blanco, chilled almond soup? Delicious!

Alconleigh · 11/07/2020 14:49

I prefer salmorejo, although you can taste the garlic for about 3 days afterwards......

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 11/07/2020 14:57

Never tried it.
I do know it's meant to be served cold though. Thanks Red Dwarf.
Souper Grin

Gobbycop · 11/07/2020 15:31

Cold soup.

Fucking stupid.

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/07/2020 15:57

It's not cold soup though. Think of it as a liquid salad.

doadeer · 11/07/2020 15:59

In a lovely seaside restaurant in Spain with a glass of wine in August yes .

At home in November with a cup of tea, no.

Prettybluepigeons · 11/07/2020 16:01

Cold...tomato...soup...
Dirty bastards

LakieLady · 11/07/2020 16:02

That's it, @AdaColeman! Thank you.

Bloody lovely.

singswithitsfingers · 11/07/2020 16:11

Love it! Just been searching for it in Waitrose this morning (no luck). Too lazy to make it - I'll wait for the next hot spell.

endofthelinefinally · 12/07/2020 12:11

Waitrose don't make it any more. I used to love their own brand. Now they only stock a brand I had never heard of and it is horrible. It is stored with the fruit juice, not with the soups, but I wouldn't bother. It is just watery tomato juice with a bit of garlic. Sad

sunrainwind · 12/07/2020 12:28

I like it a lot!

Loveinatimeofcovid · 12/07/2020 12:31

I’m surprised that people eat it. Surely you either drink it or don’t bother? It’s just yummy seasoned veg juice. It comes in juice carton and everything.

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 12/07/2020 12:33

I bloody love it on a really hot day. I have some chilling in the fridge as we speak....
