I like it, but its lighter than soup and sort of zingy. Well that's how I remember it.

FloydWasACat · 09/07/2020 18:33

Has to be in a glass! I love it!...but only have it on a holiday

Quinto5 · 09/07/2020 18:33

Gazpacho love it served with croutons, and chopped up peppers, cucumber and spring onion.
Salmorejo is similar but creamier served with chopped boiled egg and ham.
My favourite lunch or starter.
Love them both.

kittyhello · 09/07/2020 18:33

It tastes a bit like tomato juice. If I think of it as a drink in a glass it's fine but if I think of it being a soup and having it from a bowl then no, it's just wrong. Confused

MrsAvocet · 09/07/2020 18:34

I love it in really hot weather ie mainly when we are on holiday though I did make some during our recent spell of hot weather. I wouldn't eat it in standard British rainy weather, it is definitely a Mediterranean dish for Mediterranean style weather.
Also, there is quite a big range of of different types of gazpacho and depending on what type you've tried and where, your perception may be quite different. I've had some really rubbish quality versions, even in quite pricey restaurants, and some absolutely delicious bowls in other places. One of my favourites is actually really cheap - we get through gallons of the supermarket Eroski's own brand on holiday normally. Not this year sadly Sad. I have never found a bought version in the UK that is anywhere near as nice. I make my own, which is easy but quite time consuming and my blender doesn't get it quite smooth enough. But its not bad.I never put bread in. Some recipes recommend it but I think it ruins it.

Throw in a glug of vodka and a straw and we’re in business

AdaColeman · 09/07/2020 18:37

I love it, but then I'm a fan of chilled soups such as Greek egg & lemon, pea & mint etc etc.

ShebaShimmyShake · 09/07/2020 18:37

It's revolting.

HollyHocks13 · 09/07/2020 18:40

I love it! I think people who haven't tried it don't like the idea of cold soup but it's not soup that's been cooked and left to go cold - more of a liquidised salad!

MadauntofA · 09/07/2020 18:40

MrsAvocet yes! I love that version - can drink loads of it, and strangely much nicer than freshly homemade 😂
Oh yes, with an ice cube.

Sorry - stupid phone!

MrsKoala · 09/07/2020 18:43

It’s one of the only foods I’ve not been able to force down out of politeness. (Other one is oysters). I went to dinner at a friends and they served it and I knew I didn’t like it as had tasted it before, but thought I’ll be polite. I put one spoonful in my mouth and had to go to the loo to spit it out. I was so embarrassed and apologetic, but I really think I would have vommed had I not done that. It’s so horrible I can’t even describe it adequately.

OrDis · 09/07/2020 19:13

Didnt even know what it was....

Westfacing · 09/07/2020 19:14

Thank you for the reminder - was looking for inspiration for the Ocado order!

It's on special offer

Hipposcape · 09/07/2020 19:17

It's tomato juice in a bowl...

Spermysextowel · 09/07/2020 19:21

I like it out of a glass, but just because it’s easier to glug back a whole litre (from a carton from Sainsbury’s) for lunch while working at the same time. I’ve looked up recipes but my sons don’t like it, so it’s too much effort just for me. I prob wouldn’t let them have any anyway as I like it so much.

LangClegsInSpace · 09/07/2020 19:21

I love it! It's the perfect lunch for when it's too hot to eat.

@AdaColeman Greek egg and lemon sounds interesting

BankofNook · 09/07/2020 19:23

I don't like it but I don't like cucumber as it tastes really bitter to me and uncooked tomatoes are blurgh.

lazylinguist · 09/07/2020 19:23

Love it!

MonsteraCheeseplant · 09/07/2020 19:23

It's tomato juice in a bowl the same way tomato soup is i suppose.
