I think it's gross.

YABU = I like it
YANBU = I don't like it

I eat everything but can't eat this. It's cold soup. Soup that's cold. Nah.

apapuchi · 09/07/2020 23:39

I can take or leave Gazpacho but Salmorejo is one of my true loves. Ate (drank?) gallons when we lived in Andalucia and now make my own pretty nifty version whenever I get the chance!

Vivi0 · 09/07/2020 23:42

I love it!

Tardigrade001 · 10/07/2020 00:05

Love it!

Pipandmum · 10/07/2020 00:08

Love it! Occasionally find it at the supermarket (though not hard to make). Great with chopped cucumbers and onions sprinkled on top, just add crusty bread and you can almost feel the Spanish sun beating down...

MadauntofA · 10/07/2020 06:36

@Apapuchi I love Salmorejo too - would you share your recipe?

BarbaraofSeville · 10/07/2020 06:42

I don't, despite being a complete Hispanophile, and loving most other Spanish food.

I think it's the vinegar, because I do like Vichyssoise, so it's not that it's served cold.

Auridon4life · 10/07/2020 06:58

Has no one watched red dwarf?

I love it! I think people who haven't tried it don't like the idea of cold soup but it's not soup that's been cooked and left to go cold - more of a liquidised salad

I haven't tried it, but it's not the fact that it's a cold soup that's the issue. It's the fact it's raw tomatoes. It's exactly the 'liquidised salad' bit that's an issue. Tomatoes are only edible of they are cooked or tinned. The fact that cooking then releases more of the healthy stuff (I can't remember what, lycopene maybe) means I am entirely vindicated in my opinion.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 10/07/2020 07:07

Wow! A proper 50/50 split!

MonsteraCheeseplant · 10/07/2020 07:08

I'm also happy to hear that i'm not the only one who can't stand raw tomatoes.

OP posts:
Auridon4life · 10/07/2020 07:18

Raw veggies make me very very I'll need them cooked

GoGoGadgetShoes · 10/07/2020 07:26

I love it, but it has to be made properly. Tomato, pepper, cucumber, garlic, bread, olive oil, sherry vinegar. No onions.

Without the bread and olive oil, it's not gazpacho.

joystir59 · 10/07/2020 07:35

Do what? Grin

Spermysextowel · 10/07/2020 20:00

I have to admit that I’ll eat most soups cold. Tinned tomato soup? Yep. Tinned oxtail soup? Yep. Not pea & ham as it’s too thick. Baker beans & spaghetti hoops cold are nice too (obviously not together).

Gilead · 10/07/2020 20:14

Spanish and I hate it!

Auntydarah · 10/07/2020 20:26

Love it!

Spikeypineapples · 10/07/2020 21:09

@MrsMaryBOOface
I can't hear the word gaspatcho mentioned without thinking of that Catherine Tate sketch. Dh is the same.

Probably wouldn't get away with it now. Confused

YouUnlockedTheGateAnd · 10/07/2020 21:12

@randomchap

3 pages in and nobody has mentioned Arnold J Rimmer

Piping hot gazpacho. Grin

Thank god.

I was getting worried

keeprocking · 10/07/2020 21:53

Made properly it's wonderful, I made it all the time when we lived in the Med area, the tomatoes we get here don't really work.

Grilledaubergines · 10/07/2020 21:55

@OrangeGinLemonFanta

Soup should be hot.
Says who?Hmm

I love Gazpacho.

IamMaz · 11/07/2020 08:30

We spend [or used to Confused ] a lot of time in Spain. Properly made Gazpacho with the tiny cubes of accompaniments, is so refreshing in a hot climate.
Not quite the same here in the UK.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/07/2020 08:33

Love it. I even used to make it when we lived in a very hot climate.
I’d need a mega heatwave to want to make it in the U.K., though. IMO you need major heat to appreciate it.

Talklessmilemore · 11/07/2020 08:35

I absolutely love it especially served in Spain for a refreshing lunch with all the garnish. Sometimes I buy it to recreate here but it’s never quite the same. I recall my family winning a fortnums hamper in a raffle when a kid in the midlands in the 80s and it contained both gazpacho and vichyssoise we found the idea of both utterly confounding Grin
