Is it cruel to throw sea monkeys away?

MIL got the the kids sea monkeys for Xmas I've only been the one bothered about them. They freak me out more than anything and can't bare the thought of bringing them to the new house.

Are these the type of pets you give away? Are they pets I don't know 🤣

Anyway sorry for derailing what is a very funny thread. Vive La Bob.

jessstan2 · 09/07/2020 12:38

If you have any ponds near you, not the garden variety but public places where ducks swim, etc, you could put them in there.

I'd not heard of 'sea monkeys' before this thread but since looking them up, I would be freaked if anyone bought them for kids as a gift. Having to look at them every day would be dreadful, there's something 'not quite right about them'.

I don't know what the op's MIL was thinking of when she bought them.

PablosHoney · 09/07/2020 12:39

I think they need salt water?

Coconutmeg · 09/07/2020 12:47

Sea monkey rescue
....not just for Xmas Sad

Quietlyloud · 09/07/2020 12:55

PablosHoney People like you throw the name change crap about too much.

PablosHoney · 09/07/2020 12:56

😊👍

ExactlyCandidaAlbicans2.I find the mindset OfOPand some others on this thread really quite disturbing, and am fearful of how their kids will turn out with them as their role models.

I read this and pictured my boys at age 30, trying to flush a dog down the loo whilst complaing that "it worked for mum and the sea monkeys".

On another note, I've just asked DH to get me some Sea Monkeys for my birthday, I'd forgotten how cute they are.

TheyAreMinerals · 09/07/2020 13:56

So, OP, what did you decide? (Head tilt)

OP? OP?

TJ17 · 09/07/2020 14:12

@Iggi999

Did you know you can take them out and about with you?
Fuuuuuuck imagine the life Bob could have had!!!
Ethelfleda · 09/07/2020 14:23

This is golden

PablosHoney · 09/07/2020 14:26

MIL should have provided pet insurance alongside the gift, I vote you go NC OP

I'm loving all the people going on about feeding dead mice - like they are somehow different to mice that were alive. Perhaps they are a type I am unaware of that are created dead so they can be fed without being killed? Magically perhaps? Confused

I guess the point is that being eaten alive is a rather horrid death, and it is more humane to find a less frightening and painful way of dispatching them first.
Ohtherewearethen · 09/07/2020 17:26

@ShebaShimmyShake - do you imagine in the wild that each snake has its own weekly Ocado deliveries of freshly and humanely dispatched mice?

Celestine70 · 09/07/2020 17:41

Omg you can't throw them away. They are alive! You took responsibility for them, look after them.

redlaces11 · 09/07/2020 17:46

Do you live close by ?? I'll take them or you can pour them in a bottle and deliver it to me my bf bought me some 2 years ago but they died xx

redlaces11 · 09/07/2020 17:47

Sorry forgot to say I stay in glasgow x

Bufferingkisses · 09/07/2020 17:53

That's really not the way it reads 😂

Of course not, don't be ridiculous. Everyone knows that snakes order from Tesco.

But again, I think that it's a case of not introducing unnecessary suffering, given that it's a pet and not in the wild, and the owner has some degree of control over it. Tbh, I agree. I know nature is brutal but I can't see why anyone would object to someone trying to be as humane as possible when they have a carnivorous pet.

TheDarkSideOfTheMoon · 09/07/2020 17:56

I’ve poured som into my brother in law’s coffee, win win, he is a bastard and they get to live happily ever after!

tizzero · 09/07/2020 17:57

Don't mean to brag but our 3 sea monkeys are going on 7 months. We lost 3 and the current ones have produced dozens of babies. They fascinate me. My daughter couldn't GAF.

Katinski · 09/07/2020 18:02

btw, I've contacted MNHQ to nominate this for Classics just now, so stand by for a message telling us that THEY KNOW!, they've had sixty million nominations already, so please, no more!Grin
