Is it cruel to throw sea monkeys away?

MIL got the the kids sea monkeys for Xmas I've only been the one bothered about them. They freak me out more than anything and can't bare the thought of bringing them to the new house.

Are these the type of pets you give away? Are they pets I don't know 🤣

I realise this is an oldish thread but FWIW: it's a tricky one because we kill fleas ants and flies all the time.

But it would be hard for me to knowingly and willingly just discard life like that with no good reason. Even a simple reason like theres been an infestation of fleas and I need to get rid of them is better than simply...throwing life away just because. At least dump them in a pond or something.

My very happy dog whipped them over with her tail when I was a child. It was sad seeing them wriggle in the carpet.
I wouldn't say it was cruel.

If shrimps being eaten is the same as them being wasted by being flushed down the sh*tter, why don't you ditch your plans for the fancy closed casket at the end of your days and go for a septic tank where you belong instead?

Oh my god I am so glad this thread is back! Crying with laughter all over again.

They'll die in a pond, they need freshwater. They're carcasses will only be swallowed up in a pond

@DullDullWeather

Some truly vile people on here

They are living things ffs

What do you do when your children get threadworms?
growinggreyer · 14/02/2021 13:13

I just want to hear how shrimps are humanely killed. Presumably they are anaesthetised in the ocean before being flash frozen and sent to Iceland for their party platters.

BringerofTruth · 14/02/2021 13:25

@growinggreyer You're in luck, it only takes 5 minutes worth of research if you have electricity and internet connection.

I seem to remember our dm & df sea monkeys eating their dc which is why you tend to be left with a single older hermit.
On those grounds seeking a morale high ground about disposal is rather strange
(I am sure I read this the first time round...)

Any of you baby boomer imbeciles

Nice.

growinggreyer · 14/02/2021 13:54

Oooh, I will rush off to electrocute my goldfish. Hang on...

BiscuitSewingTin · 14/02/2021 17:38

Why are so many people in this thread determined to try and undermine the fact that sea monkeys are harmless living things by bringing up head lice etc? The thread isn’t about head lice.

Honestly, this might as well be a vegan hate thread. People refuse to accept that they could be doing something cruel and so instead try and poke holes and ridicule those who care instead. I know I’d rather be someone who cares too much than risk causing harm to someone else, particularly with something like this where the effort it takes to keep them alive is the bare minimum.

Grin Love this thread. It's really cheered me up. You bastarding sea money killing boomers Grin

@mywifi, there's a difference between killing something that can harm us if left, eg parasites, and killing something just because you're bored of it. Plus posters suggesting it's OK to just flush sea monkeys away need to realise that lots of problems we have in our waterways are because of people flushing things that shouldn't be flushed. When non-native flora and fauna get into the ecosystem it really messes with the ecology.

DavidsSchitt · 14/02/2021 18:04

Omg. Do they have a best before date?

Just remembered the kids got this for Xmas but it's still in the box. Have I murdered the monkeys before they got to live?

mywifi · 14/02/2021 18:04

They won't fit down the toilet

@MyMonsteraisDeliciosa you must be over feeding them.

Totally agree. I was having a laugh not being serious
