To think someone from Ozark should be arrested

notevenat20 · 19/06/2020 07:19

I just watched episode 6 of the first series of Ozark. In it a 15 year old girl is shown having sex with a man presumably aged at least 21. The whole thing is dealt with casually as if it’s a normal thing for the man to have done.

Isn’t this just paedophilia and isn’t it actually illegal to show depictions of paedophilia, even if they are not real? Surely the police should at least talk to someone at Ozark.

You are wrong. It is context driven. There is no magic cut off in the UK if the male has recently turned 21.

CathyComesHome · 19/06/2020 09:50

Guess Jodie Comer will be getting the Chair then.

steff13 · 19/06/2020 09:50

I think it's insane to think that a corporation such as Netflix would not be fully aware of what is and isn't legal to broadcast in the UK.

HappydaysArehere · 19/06/2020 09:50

Sounds like Corrie!

PotholeParadise · 19/06/2020 09:57

Gwenhwyfar The age of consent is relevant if the underage party wants to make a complaint.

The fact is, no matter how dubious the relationship, you can't prosecute the older partner against an older teen's wishes. How do you successfully prosecute a man when both he and the teenage girl both say 'no, we didn't have sex'?

BadAlice · 19/06/2020 10:00

It’s fictional. Th actress is over the age of consent. It’s not porn - sex is implied not actually shown.

Obviously 15 year olds do have sex with older men in the real world. Obviously his isn’t okay but does that mean we should all pretend it doesn’t happen?

Midsommar · 19/06/2020 10:01

Get a grip OP.

SoupDragon · 19/06/2020 10:02

I assume you won't be watching the rest of the series.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 19/06/2020 10:12

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz

Whilst morally dubious there are some awesome female characters in it.

And Helens outfits are incredible > I'm
so shallow <

I said the same, especially in the most recent series. Such a diverse range of female characters played by incredible actresses.
ArthurMorgan · 19/06/2020 10:16

I'm so confused 😂

GreytExpectations · 19/06/2020 10:18

Op, please do contact the police. This is clearly a serious matter and should not be taken lightly.

And once you have done please report back to the thread and tell us what they said.

Sparklesocks · 19/06/2020 10:18

Maybe you should avoid watching fictional dramas on TV

ArthurMorgan · 19/06/2020 10:22

Let's hope the op doesn't watch "Happiness"

ChilliCheese123 · 19/06/2020 10:25

The girl in question wants to do it and gives consent and regrets it afterwards
It’s clear that she didn’t enjoy it and is upset by it and it’s heartbreaking but it’s the reality for many many young women.
It’s hardly paedophilia as whilst she’s young and naive she is ‘developed’ she isn’t prepubescent. There’s many scenes where she is viewed as ‘sexy’ by adult men and other adults have to remind them she is under age. In reality the actress Sofia Hublitz is 21 in real life so she was most probably 17-18 when it was filmed, not 14/15.
It’s a storyline in a lot of tv shows. I recently watched a Netflix series (Dare Me) where a girl is violently sexually assaulted at a party where a lot of under age girls are partying. They never show the assault but show her injuries after. It’s shocking and the adults in her life don’t do anything but again, that’s the reality for a lot of young women. Again the actress playing her is mid-20s so it’s not actually like they’re portraying actual rape of a minor.

GreytExpectations · 19/06/2020 10:27

@notevenat20 have you ever watched Game of Thrones? I'd be interested in your thoughts on the sex scenes in that show

AskingforaBaskin · 19/06/2020 10:31

I'm GOT Danny is 13 when sold and married to Karl Drogo.

ChilliCheese123 · 19/06/2020 10:33

@greytexpectations I remember when the sansa/Ramsay storyline was on and how many people were horrified by it on my Facebook etc ‘we don’t want to see that’ ‘it’s not necessary’ ‘it made me feel weird’ - now if you’ve experienced SA before and that’s why you don’t like seeing it, fair enough. But these were mostly people whining that they don’t like being confronted with the reality that it happens. In a way I think that’s why it’s important to show these things on tv - but it has to be done well.

NameChange84 · 19/06/2020 10:33

Danny? Karl? I must have been watching a different GOT as haven’t come across these characters!

AskingforaBaskin · 19/06/2020 10:37

Daenerys
And Khal my autocorrect changed it.
But you mount have watched much of it if you couldn't work that out.

CJsGoldfish · 19/06/2020 10:41

I would like any reference to under age sex (particularly where the man is 21) on TV to be clear that it is abuse. I would also like Netflix to be contacted by the police and given a warning
🤣🤣🤣
This is gold.
Have you contacted the police yet OP? You really, really should.

I still believe I am right
You're not. You are funny though so there's that.

SimonJT · 19/06/2020 10:48

Maybe OP should watch queer as folk, a 29 year old character has sex with a 15 year old character when the age of consent was 18. Just imagine all those people who are criminals after watching it, dirty bastards.

I wonder if the OP realises how his/her ignorant views are minimising the actual abuse some have suffered.

GreytExpectations · 19/06/2020 10:50

Yeah I do remember that. It was just people whining and I thought the scene was done well and served the purpose. It wasn't glorifying anything and was showing you a truly awful experience for Sansa. It's a shame so many people had the "Not in my backyard" attitude to miss the entire point.

AskingforaBaskin · 19/06/2020 10:50

Wait....does this mean we are all conspirators of the multiple murders and money laundering as well?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 19/06/2020 10:51

Queer as Folk was very good.

And my, hasn't Charlie Hunnam grown into a fine looking man actor? Wink

GreytExpectations · 19/06/2020 10:52

@NameChange84

Danny? Karl? I must have been watching a different GOT as haven’t come across these characters!
You haven't come across Danny (daenerys) Targaryan or Khal Drogo? Hmm

Or are you just being deliberately obtuse because PP made a minor typo?
