It’s not really AIBU as it’s my opinion but anyway...

I was at work yesterday and a young woman came in and clear as day had lip fillers. I was looking thinking , I can not understand why people pay to have this done. It looks awful.

You can tell straight away that they’ve had fillers

I assume slightly enhancing them can be a positive in some cases, but some just go too far until they look like comedy lips and over do it.

I was just looking thinking, I bet that woman looked more appealing and attractive to the average person with her own, natural lips!

I felt sorry for her that she was thinking that would make her more attractive....

I dread my DD growing up seeing these imagines and finding them beautiful.

I think it’s like Botox - when done well it probably looks good and isn’t noticeable. Some people just gradually go overboard with it and I don’t think they realise. I don’t know anyone who’s suddenly gone from normal lips to massive duck pouts - it usually happens over time.

Peterbear · 12/06/2020 15:57

I think it says a lot about us as a society i.e. Both men and women and what is attractive/the norm. I find it depressing.

YANBU
They look bloody awful. I'm sure some women get it and you can't tell but the number of women I see who get them and they look fake, change the face completely and just look horrible, I would think imperceptible ones are fairly rare.

I would say definately the first picture and not the second picture. If the second one has had filler that's a really well done job as looks like natural lips

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/06/2020 15:59

They are dreadful and I feel so sorry for the women that get them. Imagine being so u happy with how you look that you have that done to yourself!

blosstree · 12/06/2020 15:59

I must admit I can't understand why people do it. Everyone I've seen with them (ie. people who's lips have suddenly swelled in size to the point that I've noticed, and people who have said they've had them done) looked much better before to me.

A local place that does them and posts before and after pictures, and all of the after pictures are HORRENDOUS. It often looks like they've been punched and have swelled up!

However, YABU for feeling sorry for them, that's a bit OTT.

MistyMinge2 · 12/06/2020 16:00

I can understand people having it done if they've got naturally very thin lips, but if that's not the case, or, it is over done then I think it looks very obvious and really isn't a good look.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 12/06/2020 16:01

I cant stand them personally. And you can 99% of the time tell even when they only have a little bit. Because it affects the cupids bow shaoe and gives a mustache shadow effect as it pushes the top bit in an unnatural way. Its sad women feel the need to do this to themselves. Theres not an equally proportionate number of men doing it.

SerenDippitty · 12/06/2020 16:02

People who do these procedures should give honest advice. I mean, if I went to my hairdresser and told him I wanted my hair jet black he would probably advise against it on the grounds I'd look awful.

79andnotout · 12/06/2020 16:03

It looks awful. It reminds me of the hens arse wrinkles you get from decades of chain smoking.

lemmathelemmin · 12/06/2020 16:03

Stop giving them attention and they'll stop getting the injections.

If people (women) were not as looks focused, then we wouldn't have all these issues surrounding body image, plastic surgery and eating disorders etc.

pinkyredrose · 12/06/2020 16:03

I was just looking thinking

You were just looking judging you mean.

LycraLovingLass · 12/06/2020 16:04

I like the look of lip fillers to a point, but it seems that a lot of people need more and more to be satisfied and then they start to look ridiculous.

79andnotout · 12/06/2020 16:05

I would never say anything, though. People can do what they like, it's their face. They're probably silently judging my shit hair.

LycraLovingLass · 12/06/2020 16:06

I agree that the first picture has had filler and the second hasnt.

Lovemusic33 · 12/06/2020 16:08

I agree OP

I’m a person that doesn’t even wear makeup so I find it hard to understand why people would want bigger lips etc.., they don’t look natural.

I feel sad for people that feel that unhappy about their looks that they feel the need to change them dramatically to make themselves feel better about themselves or to get people to be attracted to them.

Astrabees · 12/06/2020 16:09

well, those who sport large slug shaped eyebrows think they look nice too.........

Haffiana · 12/06/2020 16:09

Yes, I find myself sort of averting my eyes because I am embarrassed for them. It is like when people wear really fashionable clothes that look simply dreadful on them - I feel embarrassed for them that they imagine that they look good.

SecretWitch · 12/06/2020 16:09

My lips are so thin and rapidly disappearing with middle age! I would definitely consider going to see a reputable physician to have them filled, if I had the spare money.

Smileyoriley · 12/06/2020 16:09

They look dreadful, some more so than others and I can't imagine why anyone would consider having them done but if they like it that's their call. Of course I wouldn't comment or stare, that would be just plain rude.

Loopylou6 · 12/06/2020 16:09

I find it hilarious that the girls who bullied me at school over my large lips, calling me 'rubber lips' are now having lip fillers Grin

candilemon · 12/06/2020 16:10

AnnieCartwright

You can always tell. They get that moustache type shadow. Not attractive.

Is that what gives the moustache impression? It’s really unfortunate.

Fallsballs · 12/06/2020 16:11

Yes I do judge, I’ve a teen daughter who I am hoping will not get lips that look like she’s been punched in the face - hopefully the fashion will go.
It’s the whole ridiculous kartrashian filled fucking everything style.

Haworthia · 12/06/2020 16:11

Cheap access to lip filler is a curse. There’s a trashy show on BBC3 right now about a hair salon (it’s fab, check it out Grin) and almost all of the girls on it have filler. All aged around 18-23. They’re so young and shouldn’t be messing around with their faces... but they can, so they do.

What will happen when fashion changes and women are no longer required to look like a blow up doll? It’s not like plucking the shit out of your eyebrows, it’s irreversibly stretching out your lips.

ShastaBeast · 12/06/2020 16:13

I’m totally for it for those with very thin lips to the point they look normal thickness. Same for anything that takes you to a norm if unusually small/large/absent/mismatching etc.

I was picked on for having big lips at school in the 90s. I got the impression big lips aren’t the norm for white people so I was odd. Big bums equally disliked at that time. I’m surprised the lips and bums aren’t considered appropriation. And both are signs of over sexualisation. But then breast implants was the big thing before that, still are.

But yeah, it’s wrong to tell women they shouldn’t do X but equally it’s wrong to think X isn’t caused by sexism.
