It’s not really AIBU as it’s my opinion but anyway...

I was at work yesterday and a young woman came in and clear as day had lip fillers. I was looking thinking , I can not understand why people pay to have this done. It looks awful.

You can tell straight away that they’ve had fillers

I assume slightly enhancing them can be a positive in some cases, but some just go too far until they look like comedy lips and over do it.

I was just looking thinking, I bet that woman looked more appealing and attractive to the average person with her own, natural lips!

I felt sorry for her that she was thinking that would make her more attractive....

I dread my DD growing up seeing these imagines and finding them beautiful.

YABU

Northernsoullover · 12/06/2020 15:22

I do wonder why people do it. I am university with the most beautiful woman. Yet she has her lips overfilled. I don't understand. I'm sure that this post might come across as judgy but as its an invasive procedure which can go terribly wrong I really wish people wouldn't get it done.

CourtneyLurve · 12/06/2020 15:23

You'll get lots of posts from people swearing no one has noticed theirs, but yeah, I've never seen a natural looking pair.

StarScream22 · 12/06/2020 15:25

They’re so obvious and look shit. They age everyone who had them by about 20 years too.

LuluBellaBlue · 12/06/2020 15:25

Personally I don’t think it’s attractive when you can tell it’s been done, however there are many many cases when you can’t tell and therefore it does enhance the persons overall look.
Each to their own as to what they perceive beauty as.
I find the social media filters far more worrying and damaging to young people

MorrisZapp · 12/06/2020 15:25

The reason why you've never seen a natural pair is because if they looked natural you wouldn't know it was filler.

I usually have botox, nobody knows or has noticed. So the idea that injections 'never look natural' just means 'some people overdo it and end up with an obvious result'.

ThePriceIsNotRight · 12/06/2020 15:26

I’ve had them done. They’ve worn off now but I enjoyed them when I had them, and I may do it again. What mattered, and matters, to me, is that I like them. I don’t really care if anyone else does or not, and I’m not in need of sympathy.

ConnellWaldronsChain · 12/06/2020 15:27

YANBU to think they look ridiculous (I do too but would obviously never say that out loud to a person with fillers) BUT it's her body and hers lips so she is absolutely entitled to do what she likes and if she feels happier with her lip fillers then it's not any of my or your businesses to comment on it (unless she asks directly for an opinion of course)

speakout · 12/06/2020 15:27

YABU.

People can do what they like- it doesn't affect me one bit.

PinkiOcelot · 12/06/2020 15:28

I agree, they’re awful. Nothing nice about them. Why would anyone want the duck look?!

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 12/06/2020 15:28

I do feel a bit embarrassed for people with them because they're always so obvious. Even when they say its only a little bit of filler for a "natural look" it really isn't. As long as they're happy though eh..

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/06/2020 15:32

YABU and patronising. I don't really care for them but I think "feeling sorry" for women who have them is a bit pathetic. I'm sure they don't need your sympathy Hmm

Deadringer · 12/06/2020 15:33

My dd only got a tiny amount but i noticed straight away (i only see her on skype) because it seemed to affect the way her mouth moved when she spoke. Her lips are already quite full so completely unnecessary. Two other people i know irl have had them done and again i feel it distorts the way they speak, but perhaps its just me. The overblown ones are gross, i always think they are going to explode.

AnnieCartwright · 12/06/2020 15:33

You can always tell. They get that moustache type shadow. Not attractive.

Starcup · 12/06/2020 15:33

Of course people should be able to do it and what matters is that they are happy with the result.

I can still feel sorry for them that they look horrid - when they’re supposed to look nice.

They are awful and always make me feel sorry for the woman who has them.

CeibaTree · 12/06/2020 15:34

It's like most (non medical) cosmetic surgery - people don't look younger, prettier etc, they just look like they have had plastic surgery.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/06/2020 15:35

But THEY might think they look nice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all find different things attractive.

You see so many women with obviously filled lips on TV now too.

swaywithme · 12/06/2020 15:37

To be fair, you are probably not the kind of person they would be looking to attract. Don't know why you'd feel sorry for them? Obviously some people like them or no one would do it.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 12/06/2020 15:38

YABU to feel sorry for them.

They're not for me, but they're also not something I give a shit about wither way.

bluebluezoo · 12/06/2020 15:38

I usually have botox, nobody knows or has noticed. So the idea that injections 'never look natural' just means 'some people overdo it and end up with an obvious result'

Or people have noticed and just not been rude enough to mention it?

I can always tell. I lip read and botox/fillers changes the shape your lips make when you talk. Forehead and upper face also changes expression.

I wouldn’t tell you I’d noticed though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 12/06/2020 15:39

It's like tattoos. I find men with lots of tattoos very attractive. Some people find them off putting.

And fake breasts. Some men like big fake breasts, some can't stand them.

I wouldn't look at someone's cosmetic surgery and feel sorry for them just because I don't like the way it looks, because someone else might love it.

They remind me of a baboons bum.
