It’s not really AIBU as it’s my opinion but anyway...

I was at work yesterday and a young woman came in and clear as day had lip fillers. I was looking thinking , I can not understand why people pay to have this done. It looks awful.

You can tell straight away that they’ve had fillers

I assume slightly enhancing them can be a positive in some cases, but some just go too far until they look like comedy lips and over do it.

I was just looking thinking, I bet that woman looked more appealing and attractive to the average person with her own, natural lips!

I felt sorry for her that she was thinking that would make her more attractive....

I dread my DD growing up seeing these imagines and finding them beautiful.

It’s a certain look. Designed to look fake I thought, if you can’t tell they’d had it done then what’s the point. Showing they have enough money and time to spend on beauty treatments - lashes nails eyebrows. Same as being pale showed you didn't need to work in fields in past or having a tan meant you could afford foreign holidays.seems to be prevalent in certain areas it’s noticeable if not norm in your area eg I notice it if I go into Manchester.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/06/2020 15:40

@AnnieCartwright I've noticed that shadow on others! Do you know why it happens?

Starcup · 12/06/2020 15:41

But THEY might think they look nice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all find different things attractive.

Well clearly they do think they look nice..... or surely they wouldn’t get them?

What I’m saying is, it’s ironic that they pay to have it done and it’s an unregulated field. So it can go wrong. Seems excessive to make themselves more attractive when the reality is, the average person would think they looked better without them.

I put it in the “fashion” category. We all thought we looked fab in the 80’s with massive backcombed hair and fluoro clothes. In hindsight not so much.

Only cosmetic procedures aren’t as easy to change as a haircut and a new pair of trousers. So in 20 years they may look at photos and think what an earth was I thinking with those brows and lips, but may have lasting effects...

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/06/2020 15:41

I get botox but noone can tell.Im confident in this as df is v anti anything cosmetic and he definitely would have commented over the years as would colleagues.Lips are hard to do right which is why I've never dared tbh.

Do you think either of these photos have had fillers?

There’s an awful lot of women around my town with the duck look. I imagine if you used less filler they might look good. I think they look terrible but it’s just a fashion I suppose. Thing is, people stare and it might be misconstrued as admiration.

Starcup · 12/06/2020 15:46

I would say one on left yes they’ve had fillers. One in right no...?

Fallsballs · 12/06/2020 15:47

User 177 - I think both have ? I am not in the slightest an expert.

MrBennsshop · 12/06/2020 15:47

I'd guess the one on the left has. Don't know about the right

heartsonacake · 12/06/2020 15:47

YANBU but I feel the same away about make up 🤷‍♀️

WowLucky · 12/06/2020 15:48

I suspect you can't always tell, you only notice the bad ones but yes, I do think it's sad world when people feel the need to do this to themselves, for whatever reason. even if it is because it makes them feel better about themselves, why does having less full lips make you feel bad?

GalwayGrowl · 12/06/2020 15:49

I personally think they look hideous.

But I'd never say it to someone that has had them done because it's not my business how they choose to look.

FabulouslyElegantTits · 12/06/2020 15:50

They remind me of my bitch's vulva when she is in season

SecretWitch · 12/06/2020 15:50

My lovely friend has her lips done and some Botox in her forehead. She looks fabulous. I wonder if it is because she goes to a very well known NYC doctor?

Women should be free to do as they wish to their bodies..everyone has a different aesthetic and idea of what makes them beautiful.

JustSew · 12/06/2020 15:50

Its a hideous fashion. However, just as it would be rude to tell someone you don't like their new hairstyle it would be rude to tell them they look ridiculous with inflated lips. The fact is that no-one (well maybe their nearest and dearest might) is going to tell them how daft they look.
We've all been fashion victims in our time and can look back and smile or cringe.

MrsKypp · 12/06/2020 15:51

I know a girl from Lithuania, blessed with that country's common body shape: tall and slender with long legs.

She also has a pretty face --- I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her after she'd had her lips done. She looked sort of like a cartoon character.

BabyLlamaZen · 12/06/2020 15:52

I agree. It looks ridiculous and unattractive. Just another thing to get done that will look silly in years to come.

Crystaltree · 12/06/2020 15:52

The puffy rounded lip look, I've always thought was to make men think of those lips around their dick. It makes me think of those fish that suck the algae off the tank.

WinWinnieTheWay · 12/06/2020 15:52

YANBU most fillers are bloody awful and I do wonder what these women (and men) see when they look in the mirror.

Cookies2523 · 12/06/2020 15:54

Where did she get them done?

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 12/06/2020 15:54

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU.

You don't know anything about these women. They could have been bullied about having thin lips (like Kylie Jenner was!) and they could give someone the confidence they've always dreamed of.

Don't be unkind.

MorrisZapp · 12/06/2020 15:56

@bluebluezoo

I usually have botox, nobody knows or has noticed. So the idea that injections 'never look natural' just means 'some people overdo it and end up with an obvious result'

Or people have noticed and just not been rude enough to mention it?

I can always tell. I lip read and botox/fillers changes the shape your lips make when you talk. Forehead and upper face also changes expression.

I wouldn’t tell you I’d noticed though.

My partner, my kid and my family haven't noticed.
doadeer · 12/06/2020 15:56

I think it's obvious to do with the shape. Most people seem to have a thinner top lip but filler makes them both the same size often so it looks really obvious.

I've got big lips and I used to get teased about it at school before it became fashionable. You can't win 🙄

Peterbear · 12/06/2020 15:56

I don't feel sorry for them but I feel sad that in 2020 women are still aiming for that sexualised/blow up doll look.
