Aibu to be sick of going for walks?

Because there is literally nothing else to do?

I am very lucky. Got a secure job, roof over my head, family safe and well etc. I shouldn't moan.

But everything that gives life salt, spice, flavour has been taken away and it is so depressing.

I want everyone to be safe , I have followed all the rules . I think the only answer is a time machine!

I am just so sad. I don't know how we will ever regain normal.

I am sick to death of walks. Unless we drive somewhere my options are laps of housing estates or laps of fields. Literally just fields with nothing to look at. There's only so much frisbee you can play in a field.

I hated where I live before lockdown and was bored to tears of it but now I hate it a hundred times more. We've been tied here for various reasons but at some point in the next year or so it'll be possible to sell up and move and I think we have to or I will lose my mind.

cyclingmad · 07/06/2020 15:57

I just want my gym back open and I'll be happy, someone for me to actually go to. I dont want to go on walks I find them boring. I love cycling but the fun has been taken out of it because it's my only main source of exercise.

I try and exercise at him but my house is for relaxing in and even with windows open it's too hot to exercise in.

I need a different environment

SockYarn · 07/06/2020 15:58

They have not left the house once since March 20th.

That's awful - poor kids. Even people who are shielding are "allowed" to leave the house and walk somewhere quiet. Even if you live in the busiest street in the UK there will be a quiet 5 minutes when you can avoid other people. Even prisoners get exercise once a day.

TinySleepThief · 07/06/2020 16:00

The trouble is a walk with a dog is much more relaxing and purposeful than a walk navigating a pushchair containing a whinging child where you are only going on the walk because its the only way to get out of the house.

I get it, starting to get so tedious..... the last few weeks have been a bit better as we play tennis at the council courts, £40 for a year unlimited use plus I can now swim again (open water).

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 07/06/2020 16:01

YANBU. I’m especially sick of having to walk at the pace of a 2year old who won’t go in the buggy. 0.000000001 mph doesn’t burn many calories Grin

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 07/06/2020 16:01

Do any of you who are missing meals out have restaurants locally who are doing sunday lunches to take away. We did this a couple of weeks ago and it was really good. Food was delicious and it felt a bit more special than normal cooked at home food. Also the novelty value gave us a lift from the monotony

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 07/06/2020 16:01

OP I'm with you. This is no life to live. Sad

ToothFairyNemesis · 07/06/2020 16:04

Thanks @Sockyarn I will let both my and my dc consultants know they were wrong to tell me to ignore the recent guidance re walks as it’s not considered safe. Can I ask what your particular interest in rare genetic immune syndromes is?
Anyway my kids don’t need you pity , they have a large garden, and plenty of home exercise equipment! It’s just very boring for them.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 07/06/2020 16:04

Yep, I’m with you. Fed up of walks and bike rides and I am so over making sodding picnics!!!

I do enjoy regular walking and bike rides but just not all the time and not when it is forced on us because there is nothing else to do!

SockYarn · 07/06/2020 16:05

Take away isn't the same though. You still have to wash up, serve it. It's an alternative, but not the same thing at all.

It's a shit life when the highlight of your week is a trip to Aldi and a walk around the block.

Bettyboop82 · 07/06/2020 16:05

I’ve always loved going for walks and exploring nature but now there’s literally nowhere else to go I’m bored stuff if it. So are my children. I’d love to take them to a zoo or a farm or even the bloody library!! I miss our old life and can’t believe it’s only been a few weeks!

SockYarn · 07/06/2020 16:06

So they have left the house then, haven't they @ToothFairyNemesis? Access to a garden is "leaving the house".

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 07/06/2020 16:06

I'm sick of going for a run or walk and it being so busy everywhere. I love going out for walks and runs, strangely it's only since lockdown started that it's been this busy. Before you could do a run on a hot Bank Holiday for instance and be lucky if you saw half a dozen people. Now you can't get moved.

I did wonder what would happen as lockdown ended, may be I'll be able to enjoy my walks and runs again.

Sparklesocks · 07/06/2020 16:06

I know what you mean. I try and mix up where I go but after nearly 3 months we’ve done the same routes over and over.

Siepie · 07/06/2020 16:08

YANBU. I've always enjoyed walking, but I'm getting bored of circling the same few streets.

I live less than 5 miles from a gorgeous national park, but I'm pregnant and can't stay away from the toilet for that long.

Lindy2 · 07/06/2020 16:09

We've done some lovely walks and I've really enjoyed them but I can't be bothered this weekend.

I have just taken the kids on a bike ride but that was mainly to get them to do some exercise rather than very good fun. I'm also secretly getting DD12 good enough at cycling so that she would be able to ride her bike to her Secondary school if she needed to rather than using the bus.

I would love to go for a swim or have a relaxed browse around the shops and a pub lunch. It's not going to happen for a while though. Not in a fun way.

Perhaps tennis is an option or golf if that interests you. Both of those sports are available.

Flying a kite might be an option as something different. I found it easier when the weather was sunny.

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 07/06/2020 16:10

Agree but it was minimal washing up, one plate for each course plus cutlery. Everyone just helped themselves . Not the same at all as going out for a nice meal and getting waited on, but better than nothing and probably as good as its going to get for a while

zafferana · 07/06/2020 16:12

I think this is why so many people are drinking a lot - life is so boring that it's better to be slightly pissed most of the time Grin

I'm with you OP. I walk, I run, I cycle, but I miss my exercise classes and doing them at home in my study isn't the same. I miss shops, bars, restaurants, having friends over/meeting for a meal out, travel, seeing my family (they're too far away to drive up there for a socially fucking distanced cup of tea in the garden). I miss normal life!

ToothFairyNemesis · 07/06/2020 16:12

You nearly exactly what I meant, but as you are choosing to be pedantic would property suit you better?
@SockYarn

Rhubardandcustard · 07/06/2020 16:12

Yay. Can’t wait for the crowds of people who have taken up walking to stop. Then I can have nice quiet crowd free walks again.

PhoneLock · 07/06/2020 16:13

I'm not bored. I can't remember the last time I went for a walk. It was probably the end of February.

I do run one or twice a week but I'm lucky enough to live somewhere without a lot of people and plenty of different routes to choose from, so no distancing issues. Sometimes I don't see anybody else at all.

SquirrelInTheOak · 07/06/2020 16:16

YANBU.

Whenwillthisbeover · 07/06/2020 16:16

You don’t have to walk everyday, you could alternate it with trips to B&M and Pets at Home. Every day’s a fun day here 🤷‍♀️ 😂

ToothFairyNemesis · 07/06/2020 16:18

@SockYarn also for those that do not have a garden would you still advocate people going for a walk if it’s not safe for them to do so?
Do you really think people who are shielding and have been told by both the guidance and their doctors that it’s safe to go for a walk are not bothering. Obviously if people are still not leaving the house, it’s because it’s not safe for their particular set of circumstances. Have some common sense.
